Duplex printing on a printer how to make canon. How to set up duplex printing

Good evening, dear subscribers. Today, the topic is related to office equipment, namely the printer. This industry is becoming more and more every year. Now no one is surprised by the presence of a personal printer. But only about 10 years ago, I had to go to friends in order to print an abstract. The development of printers does not stand still. If earlier we were just enough for ordinary black-and-white printing, then now submit double-sided. Technology that allows us to save paper by printing on both sides of the sheet at once. All this is interesting, but there is some subtlety in setting up such a mode which I will tell you about now.

What is duplex?

Duplex or duplex printing is a special feature of the printer (MFP) to print automatically on two sides of a sheet without our intervention. Such printers are quite common and priced slightly more expensive than conventional ones. Most manufacturers have a special marking of such devices in order to distinguish them from many others. For example, the well-known manufacturer Kyosera, we add the letter “d” at the end of our marking of such devices. For example, HP Laserjet 2015d.

What is the feature of the setting?

It happens that after installing the drivers, and after going to Word and trying to print on a sheet from two sides, we notice that for some reason this fad does not see MS Word. From which only one conclusion can be drawn, the drivers are not tuned enough. To view driver properties. We need to get to the "Devices and Printers" item through the "Start" panel.

Having distinctly clicked on this item, we find ourselves at the very epicenter of the settings. The place where all currently connected printers to your computer are displayed. Well, something like this.

Now selecting the printer we need and clicking on it right click  mouse we will call context menu. In the very middle there will be an item - Printer Properties. Let's go into it.

A window immediately opens with different tabs and settings. By default, the General tab is active.

To configure, we’ll move a little to another section called “Device Settings”. The most important thing here is not to get lost in the settings, there can be a lot of different things, it all depends on the printer model. The most important thing for us is to find the subsection “Installable add-ons” and the item “Duplex module (for 2-sided printing)”.

Many users of office printing equipment are very interested in learning the answer to the question of how to print on both sides. The easiest way to solve this problem is to use a special model of printer or MFP, which has support for printing from 2 sides of the sheet. Some devices of this type have support for automatic two-sided printing, while others only manual. Those. in the latter case, to print on both sides of the sheet, the user must strictly adhere to the instructions and constantly turn the pages manually so that the text is printed on the back of the page. But some models of printing office equipment generally do not have such a function as duplex printing.

We print using a printer that has automatic duplex printing.

Before solving a task like “how to do duplex printing»You need to make sure that your device has the appropriate option. To find out if he has double-sided printing, you need to contact the manufacturer of the device, rummage on its official website or in the instruction manual.

Alternatively, you can go to open document  Word into the “File” tab and click on “Print” there. In the list that opens, select the desired device and go to the "Options" section. In the new window, select the appropriate function, and if your printer model really supports this feature, then you can easily print the required number of documents in automatic mode. Most importantly, do not forget to put the necessary number of sheets in the paper tray so that the printing process on both sides does not stop for a minute.

It should be added that if your device is combined with a copy device that has support for duplex copying, then the printer most likely has a two-sided printing function.

Configuring a printer that does not support automatic duplex printing

So, if duplex printing on a printer in automatic mode is not possible, then to solve the problem of “how to print on both sides” you will need to set the appropriate settings. To do this, you can print even and odd pages separately or print on both sides manually.

If you are interested in answers to questions about how to print on both sides of the paper and how to set up the device for this, then you can do the following: first, print all the pages displayed on one side of the paper, then turn over the printed sheets and send them to print again .

But at the same time, be extremely careful, because Many users experience the problem of loading paper incorrectly in the tray while printing the back side. If you are unsure of the success of this procedure, then first try printing 4-5 pages to make sure that you did everything really well.

If you are interested in the answer to the question of how to print in this way, then first go to the "Printing" tab in word document  and click on " Single-sided printing". In the drop-down list, click on "Manual printing on both sides." The printer configured in this way will start working after the print command, and Word will offer you to turn the stacks over.
With the described methods, everything is clear, but how to print two-sided printing using the printing of even and odd pages? Any novice user of the printer can use this method, the main thing here is care and accuracy, otherwise the printed document will not satisfy you.

  • To print in this way, open the "File" and go to the printing point.
  • There, open the section with the parameters, and then click on "Print all pages."
  • Go to the bottom and find the option to print only even pages.
  • Then power the printer installed in this way by pressing the print button.
  • After printing all the pages with odd numbers, gently turn over the stack and again go to the "Print all pages" option.
  • Scrolling to the bottom, check the box to print only odd pages and restart the printer.

Thus, thanks to this instruction, you now know how to print documents on both sides of a sheet. But for starters, it is recommended to practice on small documents.

You may find the video useful: printing on both sides

Most printers and MFPs can only print on one side of a sheet. To print on the other side, you need to turn the printed sheet over, put it in the input tray, and send it to print. For the second pass, you will receive a sheet printed on both sides. Some models include automatic duplex printing (duplex). In this mode, the sheet will be printed on both sides automatically. This mode can be used to save paper, to print various two-sided documents, letterheads, etc.

First black and white print out time

The time it takes to print the first page in color when the printer / MFP is turned on. The print time of the first page shows how quickly the user can get the fingerprint after he sent the print job. If you need to print periodically throughout the day one or several pages at a time, then choose a device with a short time for the first print out.

Warm-up time

The time it takes to warm up some parts of the printer (MFP) after it is first turned on. Some types of printers (laser, LED, solid ink) when printing use preheated to high temperature parts. When you turn on the device for the first time, it takes some time (sometimes quite long - from tens of seconds to several minutes) to heat up these elements. If you print rarely enough and the printer (MFP) manages to switch to sleep mode, then when you send a print job, you will also have to wait for some time to warm up.

Bluetooth interface

Ability to connect to a printer / MFP other devices with using bluetooth. Bluetooth - technology name wireless connection, is used to transmit data over a short distance (about 10 meters). Bluetooth is equipped with many mobile devices: laptops, handheld computers, cell phones. If the printer is equipped with Bluetooth, then connecting portable devices to it is most convenient using this wireless interface.

Ethernet Interface (RJ-45)

Ethernet is a common technology for transmitting data in computer networks. Almost all modern computers  equipped with an Ethernet interface. An Ethernet printer or MFP can function as network printeri.e. all users local area network  can use it for printing. Printers and MFPs typically use Ethernet 10 / 100BASE-T with an RJ-45 connector as the Ethernet interface.

USB interface

USB is a serial data interface, the most common interface for connecting peripherals  to the computer. USB or LPT interfaces are usually used to connect a printer (MFP) to a computer (see "LPT interface"), however, when choosing, you need to consider that some PCs and many laptops do not have an LPT interface. Therefore, you should give preference to models of printers and MFPs with a USB interface.

Number of cartridges

In laser and LED printers / MFPs, the number of cartridges is usually equal to the number of colors used for printing. Each cartridge contains toner in its respective color. In inkjet printers / MFPs, the number of cartridges may vary, depending on the model. The simplest models use one cartridge for color and black and white printing. When at least one of the colors used has run out of ink, you will have to replace the entire cartridge. Other models may have two or more cartridges (one of which is with black ink, and the rest with color). This allows you to more prudently purchase supplies. If you use only black ink when printing (you print mainly pages with text), then when they run out, you will not need to change color ink cartridges.

Number of colors

In most inkjet printers  four-color printing is found: for monochrome printing, individual black inks are usually consumed, and for the formation of color shades, three-color inks are used. Six or more colors are used to get a better print for printing. The number of colors from which the print is formed is especially important for photo printing. The more of them, the better the color reproduction on the print.

Maximum paper weight

All printers and MFPs can only print on paper of a certain density. Too thin paper will squeeze between the feed rollers, and too thick will not bend during printing.

Application area

Personal devices have a working life of up to 10,000 pages per month, they are designed for home use or in the office with small print volumes. Most inkjet printers / MFPs and simple laser and LED printers / MFPs fall into this category. MFPs and printers for small offices can print between 10,000 and 50,000 pages per month. This is the most common class of devices, it is used in small offices or in individual work groups. Devices for the average office print from 50,000 to 100,000 pages per month. Such devices can be placed one at a time throughout the office, they are designed to print brochures, the input trays allow you to make a significant supply of paper for printing. MFPs and printers for a large office can print over 100,000 pages per month without loss of performance.

CD / DVD Printing

Some models of inkjet printers and MFPs can display on discs with the ability to record (CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW). After writing to a disc, you can print the necessary text or image on its non-working surface. For printing, you must use special disks that are designed for this.

Printing photos

Photo printers or multifunction printers with photo printing allow you to print images of very high quality, at the level of prints from a darkroom. Such devices use inkjet or sublimation printing technology. To form an image, as a rule, six or more colors are used. Many photo printers / MFPs can connect directly to digital cameras  and print captured photos without a computer. In addition, many such devices have a built-in mechanism for reading memory cards and can print images recorded on flash cards.
