Gs 8306 manual search. How to update the Tricolor software yourself? What for? Switch TV channels and radio stations

The website of the manufacturer of equipment for Tricolor appeared the new software for the GS 8306 receiver is firmware version 1.9.160.

This firmware was intended to replace the 1.2.001 software version released several years ago. It must be said that the firmware version 1.2.001 for the GS 8306 is exactly the software with which the GS 8306 receiver began to work more or less normally and stably - it did not freeze, the picture practically did not catch the frieze, the channels switched quite quickly. With firmware 1.2.001, only one sore remained unresolved in the GS 8306 receiver - an external power supply 12v, 2A could fail, but the problem was solved by buying another unit at a price of 500-700 rubles. Even the above problem is not very common in the GS 8306 model.

And now, after several years of successful operation of the receiver with a proven and proven firmware for some reason needed to release new software - version 1.9.160.

Well, we released a new firmware and released it. Usually, after a software update, Tricolor receivers begin to work more stably. It was hoped that after the firmware up to 1.9.160 everything will be fine.

On the website of the manufacturer of the model GS 8306, the following characteristic features of the new firmware are indicated (see screenshot below):

Changes from the previous version of the software:

  1. Modern graphical user interface for Stingray software
  2. Improved receiver stability
  3. Added functionality for manual channel search
  4. Improved work of the application "Cinema" Tricolor TV "

I would like to pay special attention to point 2 of the description of the new firmware - the stability of the receiver has been increased !!!

In practice, we encountered the following problems when flashing and after flashing the GS 8306 receiver to version 1.9.160
  1. the receiver is sewn through the air, and if the firmware is confirmed, it may not be successful - the firmware process freezes and the receiver remains in an unprocessed state. In this case, the old firmware has already been erased. So the receiver turns into a brick. Its further restoration is possible only by desoldering the flash-memory microcircuit, flashing it in the programmer and resealing it to the receiver. This is a relatively expensive procedure.
  2. Another problem with flashing is the long duration of its execution. People are beginning to get confused about whether the firmware has already completed or the procedure is still ongoing. Confused and unable to bear it, many of them impatiently disconnect the receiver from the power supply, and if the firmware has not finished yet, then the receiver again turns into a brick.

Those subscribers who are lucky and whose receiver, after a few hours, has nevertheless successfully updated to 1.9.160, will have to face other problems in the operation of the receiver, which worked stably before.

  1. The message “no signal” appears periodically while watching channels. After such a message, you can switch to another channel, watch it a little, return to the channel on which the message “no signal” appeared and continue watching the selected channel again for a while. But only until the next message "no signal" appears.
  2. From the description of the new firmware, it can be seen that it received the "modern graphical interface of the Stingray software". So the needs of this very Stingray exceed, according to our subjective feelings, the capabilities of the processor and memory of the GS 8306 receiver. This leads to the fact that channels are now switching much longer than before - not the old firmware 1.2.001.
  3. When switching channels, especially when switching channels of different thematic packages, some receivers simply reboot.
  4. The picture is pinkish after turning on the receiver. Some users really faced the problem that after the firmware all their channels are shown in pink. Although, maybe it's good to look at a picture in pink in our then 21st century. The problem is eliminated by overloading the receiver on power.
  5. The picture can be terribly freezing on some channels. On our test receiver the channel "Match HD" is especially freezing - number 103 in the channel list.
  6. If after the firmware the receiver does not turn into a brick and continues to function at the very least, then it will not work to sew it via the USB port back to the stable firmware 1.2.001 - there is a blockage
  7. Periodically, the receiver reboots by itself even without any action, such as changing the channel
  8. The audio and video tracks get out of sync periodically
  9. Periodically, the receiver simply freezes, especially when it is experiencing some kind of load, for example, when switching channels.

These are, perhaps, the main points that owners of the GS 8306 receiver on the new firmware 1.9.160 will encounter. And in our, again, subjective opinion, most of the problems listed are related to the fact that the hardware power of the GS 8306 receiver is not enough to meet all the needs of the new Stingray software.

In light of all the identified operating problems with the new firmware 1.9.160, one can only guess about what kind of increase in the stability of the receiver's operation the software developer is talking about.

Now how to continue using the receiver on firmware 1.9.160

This is what we personally did with our own GS 8306 receiver to increase its stability. This is the method that was advised by colleagues who faced and sorted out the problems of firmware 1.9.160 before us - to increase the stability of the receiver with the received signal, the frequency (lower and upper) of the local oscillator must be set 1 MHz higher than the standard value - 10751 MHz against the standard 10750 MHz.

After the local oscillator frequency was set to 10751 MHz, the receiver stopped giving the message “no signal” when viewing channels and began to work more stably when viewing and switching channels. It is already difficult to do anything more.

What else you need to know when using GS 8306 on firmware 1.9.160

The new firmware has changed the operating mode of the receiver. Now the receiver automatically detects to which video output the cable is connected to the TV. Depending on which video output the firmware detects the connection cable to that video output, it will send a video signal. In the event that 2 cables (HDMI and 3RCA) are connected to the receiver at once, confusion may arise and the receiver will not understand which video output to send the video signal to. Therefore, we connect only one video cable to the receiver at a time.

Another point is the light indication on the receiver. If earlier the upper lit indicator meant the set-top box's HDMI output was active, then on firmware 1.9.160, only the upper indicator glowing means that the receiver is in standby mode and to start watching it, you must first turn it on. And after turning on, the receiver will automatically send a video signal to the detected video output.

Download the firmware 1.9.160 for the GS 8306

If you really need to, then the "wonderful" firmware for the GS 8306 receiver can be downloaded on the official website of the manufacturer of this receiver at http://gs.ru/support/manuals-and-software/gs-8306/

P.S. - After long troubles with the development of a new firmware for the 8306 receiver, a number of questions arose:

  1. why was it necessary to write new software for the receiver, if the old one worked stably and practically without any complaints
  2. when new software appears that will fix all problems and bugs in version 1.9.160

In their work, Tricolor-TV systems use receivers-receivers that decode the signal coming from satellites. For their correct operation, operating firmware is used, which must be updated from time to time. GS 8306 is one of the most common receivers among Tricolor-TV subscribers, so if you use it, like many other users, you need to be able to install outgoing updates to its system.

Updating receivers, as well as other equipment designed for decoding a digital signal, is necessary to:

  1. All systems for connecting to the satellite and to the TV worked as efficiently as possible - the best picture was shown, a list of channels was available, etc.
  2. Possible problems with past software have been eliminated, and no longer annoying users.
  3. Introduce new functions, codes and capabilities into the system.
  4. To simplify the interaction of the user and the interface - to make the program interface more convenient and understandable.
  5. Check the functionality of the old system and clean up the accumulated "debris".

If you do not update the software, over time, there may be interruptions in the broadcast of TV channels. Errors on the screen will appear more and more often, blocking access to viewing. If the software of the smart card and the receiver does not match, "Error No. 5" will appear, viewing will be impossible. And even the well-coordinated work of the receiver and TV can be threatened.

Algorithm of actions

The receiver software can be updated in two ways:

  1. Using the distribution kit downloaded to a USB flash drive.
  2. Using a satellite connection.

Using a flash drive

To update the receiver of this model in this way, you must:

  1. Check if you need an update - for this, in the "Information" section of the menu, view the latest firmware version and run a check for the availability of updates.
  2. If updates are available, turn on your computer and go to the website: http://www.gs.ru/support/manuals-and-software/GS-8306/. Here is the official software for the digital receiver - and only from this site and it is recommended to download licensed software for GS (GeneralSatellite) models.
  3. Upload the downloaded to a flash drive - the files should be in the root directory, and the flash drive itself is formatted in FAT32.

Important! Do not under any circumstances change the name of the update files.

  1. Connect the USB stick to the turned off receiver, and turn on the receiver.
  2. Take a close look at the LEDs around the power button. After such a switching on of the receiver, both LEDs will blink, after which one will go out, and only the upper one will remain on. The lower one will flash periodically. This is a sign that the system is being updated at the moment.

Important! The update progress information will not be displayed on the screen, so watch out for the diodes!

  1. The software update takes approximately 5 minutes - when finished, both LEDs will turn off.
  2. Wait 10 seconds or more before removing the USB stick.
  3. Take out the USB stick. She is no longer needed.
  4. Unplug the receiver from the outlet, and after 10-15 seconds, turn the power back on.

The update is complete, you can see the new software version in the menu.

Attention! The features of the GS 8306 model receiver will not allow you to "roll back" to the previous software version, if difficulties arise with this one during installation.

By satellite

Updating via a standard satellite connection is much easier and more user-friendly, but there are more problems during installation than when updating from USB.

To avoid a violation during the update, follow the instructions strictly:

  1. Start with a new search for channels, and save them at the end of the procedure.
  2. Turn the receiver off and on by removing the plug from the outlet and returning it to its place.
  3. Turn on channel 333 - it will be informational.
  4. Wait a couple of seconds - the system will check for updates and report its availability. The message will also indicate the new software version.
  5. Select Yes.
  6. Wait for the second stage of the update to end.
  7. Wait for the receiver to reboot.
  8. After the last reboot, the Setup Wizard will appear on the screen - select the language, time, operator, region.
  9. Search for channels.
  10. Done! After the customizer finishes working, the new software version will be displayed in the "Status" menu item.

Important! Never reboot or unplug the receiver during installation. This can lead to the fact that the system is not fully updated, and you will not have access to viewing.

It is natural that Tricolor TV is trying in every possible way to improve its services, and therefore updates appear frequently. If you skip the release of new products and do not update the devices, then various difficulties associated with the display of channels and not only are possible. They can be avoided by technical upgrades to popular receiver models such as the GS 8306 or GS 8307.

How to update the receiver's firmware

A GS 8307 or GS 8306 receiver software update is a replacement of the old firmware with an updated version that meets the requirements of 2017. Updates from the past, 2016, are still relevant, but this is not for long. Check, the version of the firmware installed on your device, perhaps at this point it has already become outdated.

For example, let's take the popular Tricolor TV GS receivers, namely GS 8307. The software version that should be installed on this device is 1.9.160. It was released in the last months of 2016, so it continues to operate in this quarter. But there is every reason to expect that another novelty will soon be released, which will have to be urgently installed in order to keep the receiver working.

It is not recommended to ignore updates, although no one forces you to use them. It's just that as soon as the program is updated, the receiver, in theory, should work better. But for an inexperienced user, it will be useful to know that when updating the software, the following important rules should be observed:

  • At the moment when new software is being installed, the set-top box must not be turned off, otherwise the interruption of this process will cause serious damage;
  • Updating GS 8307 software is a two-step process. But the participation of a person is exclusively accompanying, since the whole procedure takes place in an automatic mode, and the maximum that a person can do is to press the remote control keys several times;
  • The time you need to spend on updating the receiver is at least twenty minutes. But a lot depends on the model of the device and how correctly the procedure goes;
  • To avoid technical errors, and the receiver continued to work perfectly, you need to follow the instructions exactly, which will certainly be visible on the TV screen.

Step-by-step procedure for updating Tricolor TV 8306

In recent years, Tricolor television is considered one of the most popular among analogs. But a significant disadvantage of this operator is the fact that you need to frequently update the system. Of course, this moment can only be called a minus with a big stretch, but, in truth, the need to constantly monitor updates so as not to lose your favorite channel is not enough for anyone.

The instructions for updating the receiver's firmware look like this:

  • It is necessary to do a channel search through manual control. To do this, find the appropriate item in the menu and click it;
  • When the previous point is completed, you need to unplug the power cable from the network so that the receiver turns off, and after waiting a few seconds (up to a minute), turn it back on;
  • On the receiver switch on the information TV channel number "333";
  • If the menu works as it should, then a notification will appear on the screen stating that a new firmware version has appeared on the company's website, and the user can update his device;
  • If you are interested in the offer, you can accept the update by pressing the confirmation of actions on the remote control;
  • The next step is to follow the update process in the automatic window, and perform simple manipulations that will help bring the completion of the procedure closer;
  • At the end of the first stage, the receiver will automatically restart, so there is no need to be scared - this is only a transitional stage for the next part of the updates;
  • When the second phase of the update is over, a message will appear. Next, you need to set the parameters, language, date and time;
  • If everything is correct, you need to search for TV channels again, after which the 8306 Tricolor receiver will be almost ready for use.

When all the necessary manipulations are completed, the user needs to go to the "Settings Wizard" section to make sure that the software version has changed to a more modern one. The new firmware has a lot of pleasant bonuses, in particular, it is distinguished by the new graphical interface of the Stingray software, which, judging from the comments, many people liked.

Problems after firmware

Unfortunately, even the best and most modern firmware is not a panacea for the problems that can hit the receiver where it is installed. The software is still "raw" because it appeared not so long ago and the developers did not have time to remove the errors. So it turns out that for some users everything works properly, while for others it is the other way around.

In the latter case, the problem can be solved. For example, restarting the update again or using a USB flash drive rather than installing programs over the network. But if errors of a technical nature and they appeared after the firmware, then it is better to return to the old parameters until the Tricolor company corrects the errors that caused the trouble.

If you cannot switch to the old version of the firmware on your own due to technical issues, then you need to go to the service center, otherwise the equipment may suffer. In principle, even after updating the receiver with low-quality firmware, you can correct the situation by waiting for a better sample to come out and reflashing the device again. The mistakes are not too serious, so there will be a minimum of inconvenience waiting.

GS 8306 appeared in the summer of 2012, becoming one of the most compact Tricolor TV devices. The model allows you to view a package of high definition TV channels "Maximum HD".

Appearance

There is no digital display, which has reduced the power consumption of the receiver. The power supply removed from the case lowered the heating temperature of the device, which, according to user reviews, increased its service life. A faulty power supply is the main cause of damage to satellite tuners, and now, if necessary, it can be easily replaced with another.

Tuner "Tricolor" GS 8306 is produced in a small silver metal case. The sides of the top cover are rounded, which visually reduces the height of the receiver and gives it a modern look. The top, chassis and back panel are made of metal, while the front panel is made of plastic. There are ventilation holes at the top and bottom. The front panel is bypassed with a minimum On it there are buttons for switching the operating mode, channels and volume control.

The operating mode indicator is combined with the backlight of the Standby button. Its white and blue color, according to user reviews, is poorly distinguishable against the background of the front panel. A slot for a conditional access card is located on the side of the case.

The back panel contains:

  • input and output LNB IN and LNB OUT;
  • rCA connector for composite video output;
  • rCA connectors for right and left sound channels;
  • USB port;
  • HDMI connector;
  • connector for 12 V power supply.

The Neotion NP6 + central processing unit is designed for budget standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) MPEG 4 devices and supports the use of secure communication technology. The microcircuit does not require an additional radiator, as its temperature does not exceed 45 ° C. The receiver's motherboard accommodates two 512 MB DDR2 RAM strips. ROM - based on 16 MB flash memory. Data exchange rates up to 35 Mb / s are supported. There is an 8KB EEprom memory chip 24C08RP used to store important system parameters. In the receiving path of the presented receiver, the DVB-S / S2 tuner unit Serit SP2230 MVb is used. The input part of the unit uses the Montage Technology M88TS2022 tuner chip. The demodulator is built on the Montage Technology M88DS3103 chip.

Distinctive features of the tuner unit:

  • loop HF output;
  • mode of automatic determination of broadcasting parameters;
  • blind search functions and

The HDMI interface controller is based on the Analog Device ADV7520 chip supporting HDTV video format with a built-in HDCP encryption module. The card collector is located on a separate board and has additional plastic guides.

The LNB power supply is controlled by the Allegro A8293 regulator, which generates up to 8 voltage levels with a tone of 22 kHz and controls the load consumption.

The regulator is controlled via the I2C bus. There is space on the board for connecting the SD card slot and front panel display, which is reserved for the following receiver models. The receiver is powered by a 12 V, 2 A DC adapter. There is also a 2 A fuse on the board.

Contents of delivery

GS 8306 has the same remote control as other Tricolor TV satellite tuners. According to users, it is lightweight and convenient, since the control buttons are concentrated in the center. There are buttons for calling information and other functions of the provider: "TV Mail", "TV Chat", "Order a movie". “Input Signal” is used to switch the signal between HDMI and CVBS interfaces. Power the remote control 2

The kit also includes a Tricolor TV brochure and an operation manual.

Connection

To indicate the operating mode of the GS 8306, a backlight is used, which is created by 2 LEDs. The indicator mode is determined by the sequence of their activation. These modes are as follows:

  • No light - the tuner is off. However, the receiver has a standby sleep mode in which there is no indication. The entrance and exit to it is made by the Standby button.
  • Continuous light - the receiver is booting after switching on or exiting standby mode. If the GS 8306 tuner does not turn on, the indicator is on, then most likely it is in download mode.
  • Blinking of the indicator - standby mode. The transition to the viewing state occurs by pressing the front panel channel switching button.
  • The lower part of the indicator is on - operating mode, a signal is being sent to the HDMI interface.
  • The upper part of the indicator is on - operating mode, the signal goes to the CVBS connector.
  • It is not possible to connect HDMI and CVBS simultaneously. When the receiver is turned on for the first time, the video signal is sent to the RCA / CVBS connector according to the 576i standard.

The audio signal goes to the RCA outputs regardless of the interface.

Resetting the GS 8306 receiver settings will not affect the video output mode. No HDMI output resolution control - only 1080i is fed. This can make it difficult to use the tuner with 720p TVs.

If the connected device sets the resolution automatically, it is possible that the setting of the image resolution is not perceived by the external device. The Tricolor TV receivers are rebooted and the HDMI interface is disabled.

Power consumption

Current consumption at 12 volts:

  • sleep mode - 100 mA;
  • standby mode - 450 mA;
  • viewing at standard resolution - 650 mA;
  • high definition viewing - 750mA.

In sleep mode, the loop output is disabled. The GS 8306 is updated via the tuner USB interface.

First steps

When you turn on the receiver for the first time or when you reset it, the First Installation Wizard starts. The setup is simple and consists of the following steps:

1. Setting the menu language from three possible (English, Ukrainian, Russian).

2. Setting the region from the list downloaded from the satellite. If you select "Main", then the channels that are broadcast throughout the "Tricolor TV" zone will be found. Selecting a different region leads to the addition of channels.

3. Search for TV and radio channels "Tricolor TV". This mode starts after selecting a region. During tuning, the tuning indicators (level and quality) and a search progress indicator are displayed on the screen. The latter lasts less than a minute, then the receiver switches to viewing mode.

4. Repeated quick tuning is possible using the "Search for Tricolor TV" channels from the main setup menu. There are no other search modes. There is no need to configure antenna parameters. The GS 8306 receiver is intended for use in the standard Tricolor TV subscriber kit, and there is no corresponding menu.

Settings menu

Allows you to set:

  • Primary and secondary audio and subtitle languages.
  • Clock synchronization mode - automatic by satellite and manual.
  • Display format (no change, Letter Box, PanScan, Combined).
  • Parameters of analog video (PAL standard is accepted by default). Image quality, judging by the reviews, decent. Switching to SECAM mode increases brightness and leads to loss of contrast.
  • 4-digit access PIN. As users noticed, the lack of protection of the setup menu makes setting the code meaningless, since you can reset the settings and the PIN code to the factory settings.

View

The maximum number of TV and radio channels that can be stored in the device's memory does not exceed 1000. Their location differs from the usual scanning of the Tricolor TV package. Numbering starts at zero. You can choose how the list is displayed (1 or 3 columns), sorting alphabetically and in reverse order. There is no list editing function. There are no viewing restrictions by age. The channel cannot be moved, deleted, renamed, blocked with a PIN code, assigned to one of 5 lists, which can include both television and radio channels. You can select your favorite channels using filters. You can already edit them and change their position in the list.

The transition of the tuner to sleep leads to the loss of information about the last viewing. When switched on again, the Tricolor TV receivers switch to the viewing mode of the “zero” number of the last selected list.

Broadcasts "Tricolor TV" are encoded by the DRE Crypt conditional access system. A subscriber buying a GS 8306 receiver receives a smart card with a 14-digit DRE ID. Subscription status can be viewed in the "Subscriptions" menu. Switching takes 3 days for SD and 4 for HD mode. It is done through a list called up on the screen or in turn. It is possible to quickly switch pages of the list.

Utility functions

The GS 8306 receiver firmware supports the following service functions.

  • Program schedule for the week, including data on the genre of programs and their description. EPG loads quickly. The TV Guide window displays the program data of the 8 favorite channels. There is a timer for viewing programs.
  • Teletext.
  • Subtitles
  • Alternative audio tracks.
  • Cinema hall. The window displays a list of available films, time before viewing, genre, description of announcements and films. The My Sessions service allows you to create your own broadcast schedule. TV mail. The service displays messages and attached images sent from the Tricolor TV Mail website on the screen.
  • TV chat. The service makes it possible to display text messages from a cell phone. Messages are displayed in a window in viewing mode.
  • Banners displayed when switching between channels. Advertise goods and services of a provider or other companies.

Firmware change

To update the tuner software using the USB connector, proceed as follows:

  • a downloadable file must be written to the root folder of the USB drive;
  • insert the drive into the connector;
  • turn off and on the power;
  • after some time (about 30 s) a message should appear on the screen about the start of the program loading;
  • upon completion of the download, a corresponding message will appear;
  • remove the drive;
  • turn off and on the power.

Please note that after the update, the receiver's settings are reset to the factory settings.

According to users, the GS 8306 receiver is not without its drawbacks, but it is suitable for viewing Tricolor TV channels in standard definition and HD mode. The receiver allows you to receive all the packages provided by the operator "Tricolor TV": "Cinema", "Night", "Maximum HD", "Superoptimum", "Optimum". The tuner supports HDTV picture format, MPEG2, MPEG4 encoding. Despite the fact that the operator's software does not allow viewing the channels of other satellites and operators, the number and variety of frequencies provided by Tricolor TV, according to subscribers, eliminates this need.

Deterioration of signal quality, incorrect tuning of Tricolor TV channels may indicate that the version of the receiver software is outdated. To eliminate control errors, get rid of operational problems and even expand the range of capabilities of the Tricolor TV GS-8306 receiver, you need to update the software. You can cope with this task without contacting a specialist, it will take about a third of an hour, a little knowledge about how to flash the equipment available at home, and its subsequent configuration.

Preparing for a software update

Before flashing the receiver, you need to make sure that the device is confidently receiving a signal. Due to the fact that the software will be installed directly via satellite, any technical failure can be fatal for the receiver. For the same reason, it is necessary to ensure uninterrupted power, otherwise it may not turn on the next time it starts.

If you are out of town in windy weather, a thunderstorm, or there are periodic power outages during this period of time, it is better not to risk it and postpone the procedure for a while.

How to reflash the receiver yourself

The firmware will take you about 20 minutesbut at this time you must not neglect the instructions and turn off the receiver or TV. The sequence of actions is as follows:

If there are doubts about your own abilities, as well as fears that the prefix may no longer turn on due to interruption in the data loading process, it is better to contact a service center.

The company's specialists can not only reflash the receiver, but also produce equipment diagnostics... In this case, it is worth knowing in advance about the cost of the services provided and the timing of their implementation.

What will change the new firmware version

The processes of information exchange and improvement of communication channels do not stand still. In order to improve the quality of picture transmission and sound quality, developers are tirelessly working on creating a new software environment. While the devices in users' homes will remain old, timely software updates can expand functionality and make the interface of the satellite box more simple and convenient.

Do not forget that the release of a new software version for the GS-8306 Tricolor TV model is planned for 2017. This means that you should not miss the opportunity to have satellite television of improved quality at home or in the country.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • sorting movies alphabetically, by genre and time;
  • reading descriptions of films and TV series that interest you;
  • setting a timer to enable selected browsing sessions.

Summing up

Now you know exactly how to update the software of your Tricolor GS-8006 receiver . Detailed instructions will certainly help to maintain the correct operation of the equipment throughout its entire service life and not to spend money on the help of specialists. In addition, the opportunity arises without changing the device, expand the functionality of the console and change the interface, which with each new version becomes more intuitive, understandable and attractive.
