Sony srs portable speaker. Portable speaker Sony SRS-XB40. Portable speaker Sony SRS XB3

A few months ago, Sony introduced a whole line of portable speakers aimed at a younger audience. In today's review I will consider two older models: Sony SRS-XB30 and SRS-XB40. Is there a wow effect from these devices? Definitely.

Equipment

Seeing the size of the boxes, I immediately dreamed of a giant complete set of speakers Sony SRS-XB30 and SRS-XB40... After all, these devices are not the cheapest class, so the manufacturer must justify the cost with the maximum satisfaction of its customers. But no. The package is extremely minimalistic and the same.

  • the column itself
  • charger (the SRS-XB30 power supply is 5V<–> 3A, and SRS-XB40 - 9.5V<–> 2.2A)
  • instruction (which had to be used, for the first time in a long time)

In general, in terms of the configuration, Sony could not surprise me. It's just that everything is very high quality and tightly packed, nothing more.

Design

Quite frankly, when I waited for these speakers, I was more concerned about design than sound quality. As for the latter, I didn't bother at all, knowing who the manufacturer was. Sony is one of the few companies that still continues to release their branded audio players under the Walkman brand. This means that, thanks to many years of experience and the availability of technology, they have every opportunity to create the best devices on the loudspeaker market.

A characteristic design feature of the entire line is a rectangle with rounded edges. And the older the model, the more it resembles a brick. This is probably due to the fact that each subsequent model increases in size and weight. Here's a size comparison with the Creative D100.

If the Sony SRS-XB30 can still be called a portable and portable speaker system, then its older brother, the Sony SRS-XB40, is a stretch. This is due to the weight of the device (1.5 kg), and not to its dimensions. But I believe that both devices are designed for stationary use at home or at a party.

Sony offers several color options depending on the model. Of course, these are the most popular colors: black, red and blue (the Sony SRS-XB30 also has a green and white version). But the black version seems to me the coolest and brutal.

By the way, I'll tell you right away about the case. The material of both speakers is very easily soiled and literally gets dirty from everything! Even for photographs, I could not bring them to perfect condition.

Initially I thought that the body is made of metal, so confident and tough device lie in the hands, but in reality it is plastic, which is very reminiscent of tactile sensations rubber. This also provides moisture protection, because both models are IPx5 standard.

The rest sony SRS-XB30 and SRS-XB40 design excellent! I'll tell you separately about each side.

The front side is covered with a metal mesh that protects the two speakers and a passive radiator. Along the perimeter of this mesh, from the outside, there is one of the lighting elements.

On the upper side there are all buttons and an NFC tag (I wonder if it is possible to pay for purchases in the store?):

  1. Extra Bass - a regular press activates an additional bass effect, and a long press turns on the backlight.
  2. A set of standard buttons: volume, start / pause, Received calls (hold this button will let you know the percentage of battery charge), single mode / pairing of another column.
  3. The main button turns on or off the column by pressing. Long hold turns on Bluetooth to pair with a mobile device.

The rear passive radiator is also covered with a metal mesh. Next to it is a cover with rubberized seals, under which there are the following ports: 3.5 mm audio input, charging input and USB port.

Now the speakers can not only play music, but also charge mobile devices. Quite a handy feature if you often go to a picnic.

By the way, here's an example of how the backlight works: the Sony SRS-XB40 is shown on the left, the Sony SRS-XB30 on the right.

Surely everyone immediately noticed the difference. Unfortunately, the Sony SRS-XB30 lacks a backlight for the speakers themselves. Although this element occupies the largest area of \u200b\u200bthe older model and looks more spectacular than a strobe and neon tape around the perimeter.

What makes it special is that the light passes through the metal mesh. The walls of the dark room are immediately painted with characteristic patterns.

Specifications

The differences between the two speakers are minimal: mainly in size, weight and amount of backlighting. Although Sony has announced a smaller battery for the SRS-XB30, the official documentation speaks of up to 24 hours of continuous operation on both models.

I think that due to the lack of speaker backlighting, the operating time of the younger model is on par with the older one.

Sound quality

For the past few years, I've been using the Creative D100 portable speaker. I must admit - the device is morally and technically outdated. True, I hadn't thought about it that often before.

After listening to just a couple of tracks on Sony speakers, I realized that it was time to change my device. In just a few years, wireless sound technology has leaped very far. The difference in sound is felt instantly.

But we must remember that first of all sound Sony SRS-XB30 and SRS-XB 40 created for electronic music. After all, the manufacturer himself positions its own line as a replacement for nightclubs. So I got almost no pleasure from listening to rock music. Only if there is a powerful bass guitar in the composition.

In terms of sound quality or volume, I didn't notice any difference at all between the two models.

Firstly, I never turned the sound up to maximum volume, because there was a risk of simply going deaf, and the neighbors would immediately run to the door of my apartment. However, I never got any wheezing from the speakers.

Secondly, Sony officially revealed the power of only the older model SRS-XB40. She also added that the SRS-XB30 differs only in size and a smaller battery. Therefore, using a usual logical chain, I came to the conclusion that the power of the speakers of the two models is at the same level.
Acoustic systems have a really large volume reserve. Slightly less than half of the filled scale on the smartphone was enough to clearly hear music in the most remote parts of the apartment.

So that speakers Sony SRS-XB30 and SRS-XB40they will definitely not let even the most passive party participants fall asleep and they can be safely used in large rooms or in nature.

Sony has its own application for iOS and Android operating systems. The application acts as a kind of "hub" responsible for synchronizing, configuring and managing all multimedia devices of its own production.

In general, there is nothing innovative in the application. But there were enough problems:

  1. I still consider myself a geek and usually figure it out without the help of instructions. But, I never managed to connect the two speakers into a single synchronous audio system. It seems that there is nothing complicated according to the instructions, but the application itself loves to freeze and show an ordinary black screen when something does not work out. Only restarting the application helps.
  2. I also failed to connect via NFC. Neither the iPhone 7 Plus nor the. If in the first case the limitation of iOS itself, then on Android there is some kind of flaw or too tricky connection, where few people will figure it out. But the Bluetooth connection works just fine! The column quietly plays music even at a distance of 15-20 meters from the smartphone.

I really want the manufacturer to be able to modify his application and simplify all the processes. Still, this is not a device from a third-tier company, so that you have to "shaman" the whole evening to get the result.

The speaker system is from a great Japanese company with the price of an average smartphone from, and Plug & Play is not implemented at the proper level. How did it happen?

There is also a separate Fiestable application. Something like a stock program for backlight control. Only a little more possibilities - there is a huge number of built-in templates. The backlight is already trying to be in time with the music, but Sony additionally offers us other settings with a priority of any color. Or configure everything with their own hands. The latter option is much steeper.

Outcome

Has Sony made a quality product? Definitely. With the Sony SRS-XB30 and SRS-XB40 speakers, anyone can become the center of attention at a noisy party, thanks to the excellent sound and original lighting system.

At the same time, these devices are perfect for equipping your own room with stationary acoustic systems.

Better to overpay a couple of thousand at once, but enjoy a full-fledged light show throughout the entire life cycle of the device. I can assure all readers that the highlight function is not one or two times. Everyone can find a use for it.

Advantages:

1) Powerful sound, at maximum volume all objects vibrate, not even from the bass, but simply from the sound power. It happens that even the chest vibrates.
2) Really loud sound, 1 such a speaker will sound a 3-room apartment 60m
3) Powerful bass
4) Cool RGB lighting and strobe lights and speaker lighting
5) Quality made
6) Really portable mini club, didn't lie))
7) Protected against dust, splash

Disadvantages:

1) It is imperative to put it in the corner of the room, preferably somewhere under the table, otherwise the bass simply cannot be pumped
2) Plays for about 5 hours at maximum volume, and about 20 hours at 30% volume, the volume is blocked until the speaker is recharged
3) Unbalanced sound, due to the fact that the speaker does not have enough working volume to play out all frequencies. As a result, at the minimum volume, the sound is dull and the bass is too much with the XB turned on, at the maximum volume, the sound is normal only somewhere in the corner or under the table, but just in the hand or on the table ...

I chose thoroughly. I listened to the top copies in the store. Sony immediately got hooked on the sound quality. You can't even compare with a similar JBL speaker. JBL is pure marketing for street teens. If you want sound quality, this is Sony.
    - Working out all frequencies at the height. High, medium, low - very good balance. We were surprised by the bass in such a small speaker. You turn on the track with "tyts-tyts" and it feels like there is a sub in the room.
    - But the bass is good up to half the sound volume - enough for a room of 25 sq. M. A party with an ear-popping sound is not a good idea. This is understandable, given the size ...

Like everyone else, I chose between JBL Xtreme and Sony. JBL did not take it because of the battery. they fail after a while. But in principle, replacing them is not a problem. JBL and Sony have the same battery capacity. you need to look at the watt hours, not the ampere hours.
So I took this column - the column FIRE! My friend had Xtreme .. Sonya was a little louder on the street and the sound seemed cleaner at maximum volume. Plus there is a backlight. • Various information and excerpts from foreign micro-reviews. I myself have not yet listened to it, but I requested a copy from the Sony representative for the test. If you can get hold of the device, then there will be a detailed overview. In the meantime, there is, that is, especially since I have left-sided otitis media, and in the next few days I will not be able to listen normally.

Portable speaker Sony SRS-XB3 is the latest development of a Japanese company, which took into account all previous mistakes, made new ones and provided us with unprecedented autonomy. It is unprecedented exactly one day of non-stop work from the built-in battery.

Some photos cut from the official site.

It's a thankless idea to evaluate design, but I like this design. I hope it will be at least as good live.

    Minus speakers Sony SRS-XB3

Now we cannot charge the column, like the Sony srs-x33 - from charging our favorite smartphone. Micro usb is gone. It is difficult for me to overestimate the idea with such a charge on the previous column. It was really great, as the weight of the charger did not interfere with the trip. Now the column is no different in this regard from all others, such as Bose.

    Here's a proof:

However, 24 hours of battery life may be sufficient for short trips. You don't have to take the charger at all.

Now about the good and the interesting. The dimensions have increased slightly compared to. However, it was enough to fit the 48mm speakers. The previous speaker had a speaker size of only 34 mm. This is by far the most important factor for enhancing bass, no matter what marketers write there.
    And they write this:

EXTRA BASS is powered by a unique DSP that boosts bass

Then, as if remembering that there are more speakers here, they correct themselves and write the following:
Full-range driver with a large 48mm diaphragm, powerful magnet and long-throw cone for deep bass
    .

I would like to note that the previous model was rather weak, and the last trips to nature proved it perfectly. Thus, in theory, it turns out that since the Sony SRS-XB3 has more speakers, then it should be 20 percent more bass. I do not know how much better, but definitely stronger. For a portable speaker, this is a definite plus.

    Column specifications

For the first time, people at Sony were shy about putting out the specs. Nowadays the fashion is to be like a Rolls-Royce. It was only necessary to add that the power of the column is "sufficient". But no, they only modestly mentioned that the consumption of electricity is 30 watts. We will assume that this is power, especially since srs-x33 had 20 watts of testosterone, and now we have a bigger size.

There is NFC, there is pairing with the same column, exactly like the one, there is a USB output for recharging devices (of course, these weak iPhones of yours).
Supported codecs are: SBC, AAC, LDAC. I think that's enough for such a soap.
BLUETOOTH version 3.0. Nothing has changed here.

Now, my dear readers, I will tell you what I have unearthed in the depths of foreign blogs. You will be surprised, but nothing new - again they compare it with Bose Soundlink bluetooth 3. Well, as long as possible, because American acoustics cannot boast of anything special, except for the size. Apparently, I stumbled upon American blogs or fans.
People write that "a pair of Sony speakers make up the bass and sound pressure of Bose, but nevertheless, they will not change their Bose for Sony". Paradox. Even though my speaker sounds worse, it's from Bose.

As proof of the coolness of Soundlink 3, they cite cleaner and more open mids! And I even believe them. Yes, the mids are very good there. But my God, the column is for a party, to sound the kebabs, and not to listen to the opera at home. Well, you know, yes, what I mean?
Although I will say more, Sony is preferable at home, since the American does not reproduce very low bass at all, while Sony somehow does it, which gives a completely different impression of music. And this is about the 33rd model. Hope the SRS-XB3 sounds much better. Why else would you have started this whole upgrade? For battery and splash protection?
People write that the column will tolerate splashes, but bathing is no longer there. A battery per day is great for weekends, but I want improvements from all sides.

    Output.
So far, my thoughts are - any improvement in the parameters of the SRS-XB3 compared to the X33 is great. But I would have preferred improvements in sound. This is the most important thing.
The official price of 11,990 rubles hints that either the exchange rates are sad today, or the column is a miracle. What will you bet on?

    Written on May 31, 2016.
PS, tomorrow is summer, the season of portable speakers. Make the right choice, friends, go shopping and listen!

Before, I was terribly annoyed by people walking down the street with portable speakers and imposing their "amazing" musical taste on all passers-by. By the way, after the test, such people did not stop annoying me, but I discovered the meaning of having such an accessory.

Thirdly, the speakers are very compact and convenient to take with you.

For testing, I got 2 speakers from Sony SRS-XB10 (orange) and SRS-XB20 (green), looking ahead, I will say right away that I liked the latter more, but first things first.

    Appearance and design

Portable speakers have a rounded body, the SRS-XB10 is rubberized and pleasant to the touch, the buttons are located under this cover on the side of the body.

The SRS-XB20 Soft Touch has plastic, the buttons are clearly visible and located on the top of the panel. It is also worth noting a special backlight, which can be controlled through a special application. You can safely throw the speaker into your bag - I would call such a case vandal-proof, I can't imagine how you can pull out a button or break something.

Sony did not limit the number of speaker colors: SRS-XB10 is available in 6 (red, orange, green, blue, white and black), SRS-XB20 in 5, no orange. Both speakers fit well in the hand, do not slip and do not cause discomfort when wearing.

    Connection

Music can be transferred to both speakers in the same ways: AUX and Bluetooth, there is also the ability to connect via NFC. To connect via Bluetooth, you must hold the power button of the speaker until the light next to the button starts flashing actively. Next, in the phone menu (on which Bluetooth must also be enabled), select the desired device. It is easier, of course, to simply connect the music source to the speaker using the AUX cable.

    Working hours

SRS-XB10, according to the declared characteristics, works 4 hours longer (up to 16 hours), while SRS-XB20 up to 12 hours. It should be understood that the operating time of the speaker is influenced by the way music is transmitted (wireless or using AUX), the volume of the operation and the Extra Bass function enabled.

    Moisture protection

Both speakers are positioned as waterproof to the IPX5 standard. I did not dip them into the water, but I am sure that they will survive a little rain without problems. I will decipher, IPX5 - protection against water jets, but I would still not recommend checking.

    Sound and Extra Bass

I started my test with a small SRS-XB10 (5W) speaker. To be honest, I was surprised by the ratio of size, sound quality and volume. The bass was really there: I was very impressed by what this "baby" is capable of using the Extra Bass technology, which makes the sound richer and deeper. I was even more shocked when I connected the SRS-XB20 (25 W) - the sound that it is capable of transmitting does not correspond to its relatively small size. Moreover, the sound quality remains excellent both with Extra Bass on and off. The forced disabling of this function is only available on the SRS-XB20, the button is located on the body, but I bet once you turn on Extra Bass, you will not want to turn it off.

An interesting bonus: Sony made it possible to use two speakers at once to create an even more amazing musical atmosphere, thanks to the stereo sound. If you and your friends have speakers from the same SRS-XB20 series and above, you can create a single musical body by connecting up to 10 speakers via Bluetooth.

It is worth noting the possibility of simultaneous connection of up to 3 music sources to 1 speaker. You can adjust the sound volume both on the speaker case and on the device itself that supplies the sound.

    Portability

The SRS-XB20 is certainly bigger and heavier than the SRS-XB10, but the question is how and where you want to use your portable speaker. The SRS-XB10 is 2 times smaller and lighter than its sister, however, I would not say that it reproduces sound 2 times worse or quieter: despite the difference of 20 W, my hearing did not feel the difference. A bonus of the SRS-XB10 is a portable ring that can be used to attach the speaker to a bag, backpack while hiking or, for example, to the handlebars while cycling.

    Outcome

During the use of both speakers, I found only one drawback - the lack of a charge indicator, a smaller drawback is the lack of an AUX cable in the kit.

But everything is forgiven for the sound! These devices are ideal for use at home: for example, if you are not satisfied with the standard "acoustics" of your laptop, you want richer sound when watching a movie at night, or you enjoy dancing in the kitchen while cooking.

The use of speakers is not limited to four walls: rest in the forest, a picnic in the park, going to the lake, walking on the street (although I do not support this point), working in the country and much more - all this can be "painted" by your track list. The speaker batteries have endured all my trips to nature, and the companies I have vacationed with were happy with the sound quality and volume.

If you still have little sound, then the following information is for you: Sony did not limit itself to 2 speakers, there are 4 of them in the line. With a maximum power of about 65 watts.

Once the king of consumer electronics, Sony has lost ground over the past decade, especially when it comes to audio equipment. Nevertheless, the company is now actively trying to rehabilitate itself and is releasing the Sony SRS-X9 speaker.

    Speaker Sony SRS-X9 - Reviews

To date, there is perhaps no better solution for premium audio reproduction than the SRS-X9 wireless speaker from Sony. This elegant and powerful audio device is packed with features. Also, the device is not without Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. Although the price of this speaker is truly royal (almost $ 700), the X9 is convincing proof that Sony still remembers what high-end audio equipment should be like.

    Sony SRS-X9 speaker set

The system is actually very solid. At first glance, you can see that the X9 belongs to the SRS-X family: we see the same neutral design that distinguished the X7.

However, a couple of new elements have been added, such as, for example, "recessed" tweeters, adorned with gold border, shiny aluminum side panels or a magnetic shield. These elements underline, so to speak, the status of the system.

In the box, we found a large collection of accessories, including a slim remote control, two AAA batteries, a piece of cleaning cloth, and a couple of small tools with magnets on the ends to remove the front grille.

    Features and design

While we are already fed up with the boring design of Sony speakers, the X9 has more interesting looks. On the one hand, the "nothing superfluous" style is sustained, but interesting accents have been added.

One of the aspects we liked the most was the sleek touch-sensitive buttons arranged in a row on the top panel. The buttons that you will press most often (for example, power on or volume control) are located right in front of your eyes.

The rear panel of the device contains Ethernet, USB-A and USB-B ports, 3.5mm Aux and a WPS button. Also on the back is a retractable Wi-Fi antenna. Wireless connectivity includes NFC connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0 with aptX with compatible devices, and Wi-Fi with Airplay and DLNA support. The X9 plays files in a variety of formats, from MP3s to WAV, DSD and FLAC at a maximum frequency of 192kHz / 24 bit.

If we talk about the dimensions of the device, the speaker is approximately 43x13x13 cm and weighs about 4.7 kg.

If you use the tools and magnets and remove the grille, you will see a panel that houses a pair of 0.75 "super tweeters and a 2.25" woofer for low frequencies. Adding 2 external speakers, the X9 has a total of 7 active speakers. The system is also equipped with 8 amplifiers.

    Connection

Bluetooth connectivity is the easiest way to connect, especially for MP3 playback, and the sound is great. Wi-Fi connection does not cause any problems either. After downloading the Sony Songpal app, you just need to follow the instructions.

For the best sound quality, users will still have to play music from their computer. To connect the Mac to the X9, we used an Ethernet cable and selected network settings. Then we waited a couple of minutes before the X9 started playing tracks from iTunes. Connecting Andriod devices is almost exactly the same, it is described step by step in the instructions.

The SRS-X9 is capable of delivering stunning sound that is much better and more spacious than any other wireless speaker available today. The X9 offers clear sound with every nuance.

In our estimation, the X9 conveys all the facets of the strings of acoustic guitar, violin, etc. All instruments are heard separately, without turning the composition into a "mess" of different sounds. In addition, the sound is so powerful and spacious that it gives the impression that the X9 is bigger than it actually is.

The processing of the vocal lines is also great. We listened to the song "Trouble's Lament" by Tori Amos in high definition (96kHz / 24bit), the impression of the artist's presence next to us was created.

When it comes to bass, you need to understand that this audio system is not intended, for example, for large hip-hop parties, when it is necessary to literally shake the walls. Nevertheless, the bass sounds full and spacious, drums and bass are perfectly heard.

Of course, the system is not without flaws: from time to time the sound becomes oversaturated. All the pros and cons of this audio system allowed us to evaluate the playback of tracks from the album Resistance by the Muse group one after another. The vocals on "Map of the Problematique" sounded too sharp in the harmonies, and the percussion was too harsh for us. But when we got to the song "Soldier's Poem", X9 really pleased us with a rich palette of clear sound. The impression was that the musicians themselves were literally “pouring” music into our ears.

    Outcome

The Sony SRS-X9 Wireless Speaker is a manifestation of the power of sleek style and high-performance sound, but it takes a lot to get that grandeur.

This audio system will undoubtedly delight you with brilliant sound detail and amazing sound.
