Since very often it is necessary to install a larger amount of RAM, or replace the idle bar, before this you first need to find out - and what RAM is already in the computer?
The fact is that RAM has three important parameters: frequency, type of construction, timings. Ideally, if all three parameters of a new memory strip installed in a free slot (or instead of burnt) will be the same. In this case, you will get their maximum performance and higher system stability. And although the installation of slats of RAM with slightly different parameters is allowed, sometimes such computers are still “buggy”.
So, the easiest way to learn everything about RAM (including its “type”) is to look at it. Yes, just like that, just take and look at the sticker on the bar itself. But for this you will have to disassemble the system unit, or rather, remove the side wall by unscrewing the two mounting screws, and then remove the RAM bar from the slot by pushing the side latches down. In some cases, you will need a screwdriver to open it. On the bar itself, as a rule, there are some designations, for example, as in the image below.

If on the bar itself there is no other information besides a long number, you can drive this number into a search engine and see all the specifications. Sometimes it happens that there is not even a number, or it cannot be read - in this case without using special programs not enough, for standard means Windows can only learn the volume installed RAM (even the "type" will not work).
I offer you a choice of two programs, in fact, there are many more, but not all of them are distributed free of charge and show the characteristics of the RAM module as fully as they do in Cpu-z and Speccy. The “Memory slot selection” field displays all the installed RAM rails on your computer. As you can see, the real frequency of the RAM strip (the one on the image above) is 800 MHz (6400/8). Now about the timings (delays). Timings allow you to find out how often a processor can access the RAM per unit of time, and also how quickly different chips of the RAM can communicate with each other.
The lower the timings, the better. However, if your processor model has a large second-level cache, then high timings will not affect performance so much, since the processor will not need to contact RAM much too often. In RAM, timings are indicated by four numbers (6–6–6–18), each of which characterizes a certain operation, for example, the first number means “the minimum time between the command to read and the start of data transfer”.
In my opinion the timings are most convenient to look at the "Speccy", here it is somehow more vivid, and in general the program gives information in a much more convenient way. Just run the program, then you need to go to the section "RAM". Moreover, if you have 2 or more strips installed on your PC - they do not necessarily have the same timings, the system will set the timings for all the strips by the slowest one.
