Highscreen Power Ice - Specifications. Highscreen Power Ice - Specifications Mobile phone highscreen ice 2

The mobile market is overflowing with smartphones of the same type. It's almost impossible to find a truly original model, and many buyers give up this venture without achieving any results. But with a more detailed study of the lineup of smartphones, you can still find a device, albeit not completely unique, but comparing favorably with other gadgets. This is exactly what Highscreen Ice 2 is. This smartphone has one feature - the presence of a second screen. Is this his thing? Yes. However, the originality of the technology is debatable. Leading manufacturers such as Samsung and Apple have this solution in their arsenal. But, unfortunately, neither South Korea nor America has provided such devices to date. But the company "Vobis" at the end of 2014 announced its new development. The Highscreen Ice 2 smartphone can rightfully be called a flagship.

Contents of delivery

The manufacturer decided to present this smartphone model in a fairly simple package. It is mainly decorated in white. It is a small rectangular box. Material - thick cardboard. The manufacturer completely abandoned the variegation and brightness. On the front side there is a photo of the gadget in the full length of the box. The number of inscriptions is minimized. According to users and experts, the packaging has only a utilitarian purpose, no marketing ploy was used in the design.

Looking inside, the buyer will not see pads or additional compartments. All components are simply piled up. At the bottom of the box is a 5-volt power adapter, a micro-USB cable equipped with an LED, a rather weak wired stereo headset (vacuum type), an original metal key and a user's manual. Considering its initial cost (in the range of 15,000-17,000 rubles), in the opinion of most buyers, the completing set could be much richer.

Design

How will buyers see the Ice 2 smartphone? Its external design can be called discreet. However, the main advantage is such qualities as aesthetics and accuracy. Designers in this matter have succeeded significantly, having released a truly presentable Highscreen Ice 2. The back cover is protected by tempered Gorilla Glass 3. The same coating is used for the front panel. This solution is innovative for Chinese products, but it has been widely used by world-famous brands (Samsung, Apple) for a long time. But is such a coating so high-quality and practical? According to most owners, the phone is very slippery, so you need to use both hands when operating. Also, the disadvantages include the soiling of the coating. Fingerprints are collected very quickly, which is aesthetic inconvenience.

The body of the Ice 2 gadget is characterized by flat shapes and straight lines. The frame, which runs along the entire perimeter of the side faces, is made of plastic, painted with matte paint. Outwardly, such a solution looks quite impressive, but it cannot be called practical, since after a short period of time chips and scuffs appear on the surface.

According to most experts, the dimensions of this smartphone are optimally matched: 13.8x6.7x0.87 cm. The weight of the phone is pleasantly pleasing, since it is only 135 g. The owners believe that if the device was a little heavier, it would be extremely inconvenient to use it. On the back cover, in addition to the standard elements (camera, speaker, flash), there is a second screen. It is quite small - 2.3x0.5 cm. The display type is OLED. The reproduced information on it is configured individually by the user.

There is an alert indicator on the front panel. It is embedded in the circle of the center button below the screen. The "window" of the front camera, sensors and a hole for the speaker are brought to the top of the phone. The control panel is original. It consists of touch keys that do not have any signatures and pictograms. All that the user will see are small dots glowing in white. A rather advantageous solution was to provide for the setting of these soft keys in the menu. The owner will be able to arrange the "Back" and "Menu" buttons to his taste.

Like any other smartphone, Highscreen Ice 2 is not without mechanical elements. At the top there is a power button and an audio jack. On the left side face there are two slots for sim cards. They are retrieved using a special key included in the kit. On the right side, the user will see a port for a microSD card. It is protected by a special plastic plug. The volume rocker is located next to it.

To diversify the assortment, the manufacturer has released 3 colors for this model: Night Gray (gray), Arctic White (white) and Galaxy Blue (blue).

Screen

The Highscreen Ice 2 display is of good quality. The device is equipped with a sensor matrix made using IPS technology. There is no air gap. The diagonal of the screen is a little less than the usual 5ʺ, it is 4.7ʺ. Its height is 103 mm and its width is 58 mm. As for the quality, the resolution of the displayed information is limited to 1280x720 px. The density of the latter is 312 ppi. These figures suggest that graininess and pixelation will not be noticeable to the naked eye.

The display is framed by a black frame. Its thickness on the sides is approximately 5 mm. The increase occurs in the upper and lower parts, where the dimensions reach 16 and 19 mm, respectively. Unfortunately, due to such a thickness of the frame, this gadget can hardly be called elegant. Multi-touch supports up to five simultaneous touches. Due to the presence of a proximity sensor, which is located above the screen, during a call there is no need to turn on the lock, since it is activated automatically. The owners have no comments on antiglare properties and brightness levels. It will be quite comfortable to use the phone in any weather outside. The color balance is optimally matched, the display supports 16 million different colors. The viewing angles are wide, and the black contrast changes only at very strong tilts.

Battery

The developers have selected a typical battery for Highscreen Ice 2. Its capacity will not please the buyer very much, since it is 2500 mAh. It is manufactured using lithium-ion technology. The battery life is no different from other Android devices. With average activity, the user can expect approximately 10 hours of use on a single charge. The battery resource is consumed unevenly (up to 70% - quickly sits down, the remaining 30% - much slower). If you play on your smartphone at the maximum brightness level, you will have to connect it to the power source in two hours.

Communications

The Highscreen Ice 2 gadget supports second and third generation networks. Users can create wireless points thanks to the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module. It is possible to connect a flash drive via an OTG cable. The phone has a built-in magnetic field sensor. It provides the functionality of an electronic compass. Thanks to it, you can install navigation programs on your smartphone. GPS support is also provided. NFC is not available.

Highscreen Ice 2: camera specifications

The developers have installed two digital cameras on the smartphone. The first (main) has a 13 Mp module. Located on the rear panel. Sensor type - BSI, manufacturer - Sony. To guarantee quality, the developers have provided for the presence of a flash and autofocus.

The resolution of the front camera is much inferior to the rear one. It is based on a 2-megapixel matrix. The quality of the photos is not very high, since there is no autofocus and the resolution is frankly rather low. However, a significant advantage is the ability to recognize gestures, which allows you to take pictures automatically.

Memory

A significant advantage of Highscreen Ice 2 is the amount of RAM. The developers have provided 2 GB. Only the 3rd part is occupied by system files. According to experts and owners, this figure can be considered above average. There is a native memory for installing third-party software. Its volume is 16 GB. This storage is sufficient for several resource-intensive programs. Music, photos, videos are offered to be saved on a microSD memory card. The device works with 64 GB flash drives.

Performance

Powered by a single-chip system based on a MediaTek eight-core chipset, a Highscreen Ice 2 phone. Performance characteristics are at the highest level. Each computing module has a complete configuration. During the workflow, they are capable of overclocking up to 2 GHz. The core type is Cortex-A7.

The MT6592 chipset is paired with the Mali-450MP graphics card. There are no comments on data processing speed. All graphic images, including animation ones, are displayed on the screen rather quickly. According to experts, the performance of this smartphone deserves an above average score. The smartphone copes well not only with everyday tasks, but also with modern software.

Hardware platform

Highscreen Ice 2 is getting laudable reviews mainly for its popular Android OS. The developers installed version 4.4.2 on the gadget. There is information on the web that it is possible to upgrade to 5.0. The manufacturer did not use the proprietary shell. According to most owners, this is a huge plus, as it is possible to enjoy a "clean" platform.

Those who have already encountered Android devices will have no problems setting up the gadget. Menu organization is standard. On the home screen is the Google bar (at the top). Below are the icons of frequently used applications. There is a "shutter" with basic settings. Going into it, you can get quick access to functions such as Wi-Fi, sound profiles, brightness adjustment, transfer of geodata, auto-rotate, and more. When you press the lock key for a long time, a menu appears in which the user is prompted to turn off the power, restart the device, take a screenshot or activate airplane mode.

Conclusion

For several years of work, this smartphone has proved to be a good one. According to experts, a feature of the model is the use of Gorilla Glass 3 glass for the front and rear panels, as well as the presence of a second screen. In terms of performance and other characteristics, the device confidently takes positions in the middle segment.

With regard to quality, Highscreen Ice 2 can function for a long time without breakdowns. Repairs are carried out only in specialized service centers. Any penetration into the case will void the device from the warranty.

Today it is already difficult to surprise with the characteristics, each chip and screen diagonal are available from several manufacturers at once, if we add here a single Android platform, then we get similar solutions that differ little from each other in design. How to attract the attention of the buyer? Against the background of this monotony, killer features are well remembered. This is the approach used in the design of the new flagship Highscreen Ice 2.

Here, the second screen is called such a token. The YotaPhone made the biggest buzz in this regard, although to be honest, e-Lnk cases for popular models were available even before its release. If you go back a little more, you can remember that a simple one-color display was installed on the outside of the lid of the phones in the clamshell form factor. In fact, all these options are designed to increase information content and reduce access to the main display. But is it really so critical? In the case of YotaPhone, this is noticeably hitting the pocket, the new flagship Highscreen ICE 2 fits well into the budget of similar models from competitors without a display.

Highscreen ICE 2 availability

At the time of testing, the average cost of Highscreen ICE 2, according to the Yandex.Market service, is 16,990 rubles.

Equipment

The smartphone comes in a compact package with an ice stylized look. There are several color options, they vary depending on the color of the device case. On the back of the box are detailed specifications and 128 GB of free cloud storage.

The package includes a high-quality red drip-type headset, charger, micro USB cable, key clip, instructions and warranty card.

Of interest is the complete cable, its connector has a backlight zone. When not connected, it glows blue, when charging - red, after fully charged - blue. It is very convenient to look for the connector on the smartphone body at night, as well as remotely monitor the completion of charging.

Appearance

Highscreen ICE 2 received an attractive body and design that is noticeably different from its predecessors. Its dimensions are 67.6x136x8.7 mm and weighs 135 grams.

Several color options are available: white, chameleon and gray. We have the last one on tests. A special feature of the case is the protective glass covering not only the screen, but also the back cover. And in both cases it is Gorilla Glass 3, which is scratch resistant. It looks elegant.

A protruding plastic frame goes along the edges, here it is painted in dark gray. There is a small ledge at the top and bottom of it.

There are two mechanical buttons: the power button in the top center, the volume rocker on the right. Not very convenient location for accessing the top button, you need to change the grip. Three more buttons are touch-sensitive, they are located under the screen. They have unusual markings, the Home button is round here. It changes its backlight depending on incoming events. They can be customized.

The body is non-separable. Access to the SIM compartments is carried out using a slide-out slide; here you need a needle or a complete key clip. Another compartment on the right is the micro USB connector. At the top of the Highscreen ICE 2 there is an audio jack, at the bottom there is a micro USB.

The rear panel houses the main camera and LED flash unit. In the center, a little lower, there is a second display measuring 23 by 5 mm. It is used here to display notifications for the current time, weather, missed calls and messages.

A large Highscreen logo is placed along the central part. The speaker is displayed at the bottom. The location is not very good, it overlaps when placed in the hand.

The Highscreen ICE 2 phone fits well in the hand. The body is assembled perfectly, there are no complaints about the quality of materials.

Screen

Highscreen Ice 2 has a 4.7-inch HD screen. The pixel density is 312 PPI. There is no air layer between the protective glass and the display. Excellent viewing angles and high maximum brightness. The screen quality is high. Color balance shifted to warm tones.

Results for Highscreen Ice 2

Highscreen Ice 2 made a good impression. For an adequate budget, the manufacturer offers a stylish design, high-quality IPS, 8-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 13 megapixel camera. The second screen in the current version can hardly be called something unique and original, there are questions about its usability, the main one concerns the activation of the creeping line. Otherwise, it is difficult to single out the obvious disadvantages here.

Highscreen Ice 2 wins the well-deserved Gold Award.

The ICE 2 box differs from the entire Highscreen range. It is made in the same color as the device. On the front side, the front panel of the smartphone is indicated, and on the back - its back.

Introduction

While one Russian company was proudly showing everyone (including the President of our country) a unique smartphone with two screens, the Highscreen company, owned by Vobis Computer, quietly announced a device with two displays. Of course, the additional screen of the ICE 2 model is not a smart E-Ink for the entire rear part, but just a small LCD window, which contains information about time, date, weather, battery charge and missed messages or calls. You can treat the second display in Highscreen ICE 2 as you like, but you will not deny that the gadget has no analogues, which means that it has a unique feature due to which it can "shoot" with proper positioning in advertising.

In addition, ICE 2 is attractive for the original design of the back. When light is reflected, the socket shimmers with sparkles. The same was done in the Nexus 4 - one of the nicest devices, from my point of view.

If we talk about technical characteristics, then we have an inexpensive gadget with an HD screen. However, as always, the price decides, which is 15,000 rubles. Let's find out if Highscreen ICE 2 is worth it or not.

Design, dimensions, controls

The mobile market is oversaturated with the same type, often just ugly Android devices. And it doesn't even matter in what price segment the smartphone is sold, you still get a plastic remnant with a “soft-touch” coating, and at best it will have a thin metal edging. The exceptions are the latest devices from Samsung (they generally have painted metal like plastic) and some from Huawei.

Naturally, I am not claiming that Highscreen ICE 2 is a masterpiece, but among its peers it stands out with its unusual coloring of the back side: it shimmers in the light. It is worth noting that the lid plays with colors at different lighting levels: for example, indoors with incandescent lamps and outdoors, the socket shimmers with shades of blue (if you purchased a blue model), with fluorescent lighting it can shimmer with shades of purple and pink.

It looks definitely cool. It is also interesting that the front and back panels are made of durable third generation Corning Gorilla Glass. There are few such devices, for example, there is the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact or the recently announced ZTE Star 1.

In general, ICE 2 resembles the Z1 Compact: about the same dimensions and weight, body shape, shape.

Dimensions and weight of Highscreen ICE 2: 138 x 67.6 x 8.7 mm, 135 grams

Dimensions and weight Sony Z3C: 127 x 64.9 x 9.5 mm, 137 grams

The ICE 2 is even thinner, but slightly wider and longer. But the Z3C is more compact - 127.3 x 64.9 x 8.6 mm and weighs 129 grams.

The Highscreen fits perfectly in the hand due to its small size and smoothed corners.

An undoubted advantage is the presence of a high-quality oleophobic coating of the display: the finger slides very easily, and the prints are practically invisible and are erased without much difficulty.

During the use of ICE 2, neither the left nor the back sides were damaged, not a single scratch appeared. When dropped, the glass, of course, is unlikely to withstand, but I think other gadgets that do not have special protection against impacts will not pass similar tests. A thin edging made of matte black plastic runs along the perimeter. It forms a side that does not allow the horizontal plane to come into contact with the screen.

There is another edging in the center, but wider. Made of dark gray plastic. Frankly, I thought it was metal, even the Vobis company confirmed that it was originally planned to be made of "iron", but later it turned out that the material had a bad effect on the reception and transmission of the cellular signal.

The rear panel is also protected by a rim made of matte black plastic.

The assembly of ICE 2 is not to be found fault with: the case has no removable parts, nothing backlash or crunches when compressed, the back side does not bend up to the battery.

In general, the impression of the appearance and quality of materials is excellent. The gadget turned out to be surprisingly cool for those who need a neat and compact smartphone.

On top of the front panel of the device there is a speech speaker covered with a metal mesh. Its volume is slightly above average, its timbre is very pleasant: both high and low frequencies are heard. The interlocutor is heard clearly, loudly and legibly. The quality is comparable to the Meizu MX4, but the latter has an even higher volume.

To the left of the speaker are light and proximity sensors, as well as a “selfie” camera.

Under the screen there is a round touch button, to the right and left of which there are two more touch buttons "Back" and "Menu". All of them are backlit in white. The round button can act as an indicator of missed events. The color can be easily adjusted in the display options - "Light notifications". You can select the default color and the color when you miss a call. Available: white (closer to light blue), light green, blue, green, yellow (more like light green), pink and red. Selectable flicker speed: fast, medium, slow, very slow, and no flicker.

Bottom right - micro-USB and main microphone, top - 3.5 mm audio output for headphones and power button (thin, has the minimum travel, clear press). On the left side, micro SIM-cards are installed in a metal slide. On the right is a slot for a microSD memory card under a plastic flap and a volume rocker of the same type as the power button of the device.

On the back there is a camera recessed into the body, a flash (the metal edging extends slightly above the body due to the fact that the back panel is glass and without an obstruction the light would spread over most of the surface, respectively, the camera would be flashed), a second microphone for noise reduction and speaker.

Actually, the main feature is the additional screen. It is not colored, backlit, its dimensions are 23x6 mm, and the matrix itself is 22x3 mm. It is activated when you press the power button of the phone. Information that appears on it:

  • Time
  • Weather (if configured)
  • Notifications. If the application is unknown to the program for working with add. display, an icon similar to the Windows 10 logo appears.

During a conversation or a call, information does not appear on the screen, but it could have been implemented at least for the sake of effect.

In the "Oled" settings, you can choose the time to turn on: after 10 minutes, after 30, 60 or 120. You can turn off the auto turn-on or turn off the additional display altogether if you don't need it. It is impossible to make the screen work all the time.

In my humble opinion, an additional display in this design is not entirely effective for several reasons:

  • In order to view the information, you must press the button. In this way, it's easier for me to look at the main screen, there will be not only the date, but also what I will set up.
  • The creeping line is very slow. If I need to know not the time, but the date, I will have to wait about 5-6 seconds, and to find out the weather - about 10 seconds. It is too long. Maybe it was worth assigning information switching by double pressing the power button or otherwise.
  • Insufficiently informative panel. I would like to see the talk time, indication of the incoming call, and other interesting things, including animation effects.
  • Battery charge percentage and graph

In fact, it turned out a trick for the sake of a trick. But no one has :-)

Comparative sizes:

Highscreen and Nexus 5

Highscreen and Apple iPhone 5

Display

This device uses a screen with a diagonal of 4.7 inches. The physical size is 58x103 mm, the frame at the top is 1.5 mm, at the bottom - 1.7 mm, on the right and left - about 4.5 mm each. There is an anti-reflective coating.

The resolution of the Highscreen ICE 2 display is HD, that is, 720x1280 pixels, the density is 312 pixels per inch. IPS OGS matrix. For the 4.7-inch diagonal, the resolution is quite normal, the pixelation is practically invisible, the picture is clear. For comparison, Apple iPhone 6 has a density of 326 ppi.

The maximum white brightness is 390 cd / m2, the minimum white brightness is 45 cd / m2, the maximum black brightness is 0.71 cd / m2, and the minimum black brightness is 0.09 cd / m2. Contrast - 548: 1. The average gamma value is 2.07, the average temperature value is 7500 K, but at the maximum brightness level it rises to 8000 K.

Judging by the diagram, there is a clear flaw in the red color. Based on the color chart, the coverage is slightly higher than sRGB (green).

The viewing angles are maximum, but the color changes slightly under tilts. For example, black when viewed from the left side of the screen appears as gray. There are shades of yellow and purple. In fact, a strange matrix. I saw something similar in Sony's Xperia Z2 / Z3 and Z3 Compact.

Settings:

By the way, the smartphone provides for the activation of the backlight when you double tap on the screen. Works quickly and without glitches. Unfortunately, unlike LG devices, in Highscreen, you cannot lock the screen with a similar gesture.

Battery

This model uses a 2500 mAh non-removable lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery. The manufacturer does not provide data on autonomy.

The operating time of the gadget is exactly the same as that of any other Android smartphone of this class, i.e. "Lives" for about 10 hours in a relatively active mode with a 3G connection: 20-30 minutes of talks, about an hour of using the camera, the same amount of video viewing, 3-4 hours in twitter and mail. If you want to play, then count on about 2 hours at full brightness and full volume when outputting to the speaker.

The battery discharge is non-linear, that is, up to about 70% it discharges relatively quickly, and then more slowly.

Communication capabilities

I won't say anything interesting in this section, because everything is as usual for the MTK platform: two sim cards, Wi-Fi (DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot), Blueooth version 4.0.

A few words about GPS. With a "cold" start in about two minutes, there are 1-3 satellites, if the GPS is turned on indoors; there are 4-5 satellites near the window in the same time; more in open space. There were no problems, but the sensitivity is average.

Memory and memory card

The developers did not skimp on RAM, so in this model you can find 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. On average, about 1.3 GB of free space - a very good result!

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of internal memory - 16 GB. At least two cool toys can be put in. There is a slot for a microSD memory card. The maximum size is 64 GB.

Camera

The main camera of Highscreen ICE 2 has a 13 MP module (Sony Exmor R), and the front camera has 2 MP.

Main module characteristics (SONY IMX 214):

  • Maximum resolution - 4128 x 3096 pixels
  • Sensor size - 1 / 3.06 "
  • Cell size - 1.12 um x 1.12 um
  • Battery charge percentage and graph

The main camera lens aperture is F1.8!

The device takes pictures quite well in general, but the main problem is the lack of noise reduction. It seems that the picture is not processed at all: it is simply compressed into JPEG format and stored in memory. There is a lot of colored noise; only high-aperture optics save the day. However, some programs, for example, Instagram, work according to a certain algorithm: despite the fact that the picture is reduced several times, the noise in the frames is still very noticeable.

Another unpleasant thing is inaccurate focus. Focusing on a large object is not a problem for the ICE 2, but if we are talking about a small object, for example, a cherry on a tree, then there is a 90% probability of getting an out of focus photo. The shooting speed and white balance are fine.

In general, the camera is not bad, but in the next firmwares you should think about enabling the noise reduction algorithm and optimizing this function, since the module is good, and the optics are cool.

The front camera is simple, the lens is not wide-angle, the aperture is F2.4.

The device writes video in FullHD resolution at 30 frames per second. In poor lighting conditions, the number of frames drops to 16. Picture quality is average or below average. The sound is clear and stereo.

Video file parameters (main camera):

  • Format: 3GP
  • Video codec: AVC, 17,000 kbps
  • Audio codec: AAC, 128 Kbps
  • Channels: 2 channels, 48 \u200b\u200bkHz

Level 1 cache (L1)

The cache memory is used by the processor to reduce the time it takes to access more frequently used data and instructions. L1 (level 1) cache is small and is much faster than both system memory and other levels of cache. If the processor does not find the requested data in L1, it continues to look for it in the L2 cache. On some processors, this search is performed simultaneously in L1 and L2.

Satellite navigation:

GPS (Global Positioning System) is a satellite navigation system that measures distance, time, speed and determines the location of objects anywhere on Earth. The system is designed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The main principle of using the system is to determine the location by measuring the distance to the object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated from the signal propagation delay time from its sending by the satellite to being received by the GPS-receiver antenna.
GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The measuring principle is similar to the American GPS navigation system. GLONASS is intended for operational navigation and time support of land, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that the GLONASS satellites in their orbital motion do not have resonance (synchronization) with the Earth's rotation, which provides them with greater stability.
