In addition, the program is constantly updated and improved. If you want to trade on MetaTrader 4, install it on your computer, laptop or “handy” devices: smartphone, tablet.

Before that, let's figure out what system requirements your devices must meet for MT4 installation to go smoothly.

Installing MT4 on PC and Laptop

Installing MT4 on Windows

MetaTrader 4 was developed specifically for Windows. System requirements for installation:

  • windows XP version or higher.
  • RAM: MT4 terminal is not a resource-intensive program and can serve many traders from one computer at the same time.

Let's see how much RAM is occupied by several terminals. Let's say you launched three terminals, opened and closed several orders. After 30 minutes, open the Windows Task Manager by clicking ctrl + shift + esc, and see how much RAM the terminal takes up:

Add together the memory values \u200b\u200bfor the three terminals. The result is the RAM required for the MT4 platforms to work. As you can see from the example, even multiple terminals take up little memory.

MT4 and Windows 10

Earlier, many forums raised the problem of incompatibility between the MT4 platform and the tenth version of Windows. The developers have fixed the problem and starting from build 840 the program works.

Installing MT4 on Linux

Metaquotes have not created versions of the platform specifically for Linux and Mac OS. To install MetaTrader 4 on Linux, you need the Ubuntu operating system and the Windows Wine installer. This program is open access and can be downloaded for free. The downside is that Wine is not a stable product, and the installed programs sometimes work with bugs.

A step-by-step guide to installing MT4 on Linux Ubuntu OS can be found on the developers website.

Installing MT4 on Mac OS

For Mac OS, you will also need a special installer for PlayOnMac. It can be downloaded for free on the site of the same name. As in the case of Linux, it does not guarantee that all metatrader functions will work perfectly.

MT4 web platform

To avoid interruptions, install an uninterruptible power supply for your PC, control the charge of the gadget, and choose a reliable Internet provider. This will keep you on the nerves and enjoy trading.

Hello dear traders! Just the other day, I received a message in my mail from a regular reader of my blog, who shared with me about small problems that appear when installing the mt4 terminal on windows 7 and higher.

This problem, of course, is said loudly, let's say, certain innovations of the MetaTrader 4 terminal starting from build 600. The essence is as follows: when the terminal is installed on 64 bit windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, its MQL4 folder is written to another directory.

The MQL4 folder contains all data about indicators, advisors, scripts, libraries, that is, to install, for example, a new indicator, its files must be placed in the Indicators folder, which is located in the MQL4 folder.

In 32-bit operating systems, the MQL4 folder with all profiles is written to the Program Files system folder, but in 64-bit operating systems, to the Users folder, the full MQL4 address is C: \\ Users \\ Users \\ Account_Name \\ AppData \\ Roaming \\ MetaQuotes \\ Terminal \\ terminal_code (it is unique for each terminal).

What is the reason for this?

First of all, this has nothing to do with the mt4 terminal, this is the policy of Microsoft. Which, starting with Windows Vista, introduced a restriction on writing data to the Program Files directory, now all data is stored in a separate "Users" directory.

The reason is to protect the user's data from malicious programs, and also in the case of working with the program under one account, it could not change (spoil) the data of the same program required for another account.

The change in the method of storing data in the MetaTrader 4 terminal is due to the requirements of Windows operating systems.

Now let's look at how to install files of indicators, advisors, etc. to the mt4 terminal.

Installing system files in mt4 terminal

As always, there are two installation options:

First option: in an open terminal, click on "File" in the top menu, then on the folder "Open data directory":

The data directory will open, then open the folder in it MQL4, then open the directory you need and paste the previously copied files (indicators, scripts, etc.) there.

Second option:also in an open terminal, open the "Open data directory" folder. Next, create a folder shortcut MQL4, copy it and paste it into a directory convenient for you, I will paste it where it was before the introduction of the innovation, i.e. c:\ Program Files (86)\ MetaTrader\ (the MetaTrader folder usually has the name of the broker). And we work with it as usual, copy, paste the files you need:

I did not pay attention to this problem at all. Firstly, on a stationary computer I have windows 7 (32 bit) installed, and this problem is not observed there, and secondly, I install indicators, advisors, and scripts according to the first option (via "Open data directory") and in- Thirdly, my 64-bit eight is on a beech, and I use it only for closing positions or transferring take and stop, I analyze the market on a stationary one.

That's all for today. I hope this article helped you. If anyone has any additional questions, ask in the comments. On this I take my leave, goodbye.

Best regards, Evgeny Bokhach
