Error 006 while connecting to the internet. Elimination of common mistakes when connecting to the Internet. When connected via ADSL

The Internet is an integral part of our life. Lack of network is a serious problem for the user. There is not always time to get through to the provider, but, fortunately, you can fix the problems yourself. Below you will read about the common causes of internet problems and how to fix them.

Possible reasons for the lack of Internet on Windows 7

There are several reasons for the lack of internet. Some of them relate to computer drivers and its equipment, others concern system errors and the lack of correct network settings.

The most common reasons for the lack of internet:

  • mechanical damage to the cable or ports;
  • lack of a network card or its drivers;
  • incorrect connection setup on a computer or router;
  • presence of viral software.

The Internet may also be absent due to a debt on a personal account or an accident on the line. Before trying to troubleshoot problems, check to see if they are caused by these factors.

How to check network status

Among the problems with the Internet, one can single out those that occur most frequently and periodically for most users. It can be very easy to resolve them. The first thing to do is check the status of the network.

This can be done in two ways:

In both cases, its state will be described under your network icon.

Unidentified network without internet access

If the computer “sees” the network and connects to it, but does not gain access to the Internet, the network state will be named as “Unidentified network. Without Internet access ”. What to do in this case?

The computer "sees" the network and connects to it, but does not get access to the Internet

Reboot the router

If you have a router installed, the first thing to do is restart it. He may simply not have time to update the data, and because of this, access to the network will be lost. The reboot is performed in the following order:

  1. First, the router is disconnected from the network. It is important to unplug the power cord, and not to reboot using a button on the equipment - you need to cut off the power supply for a while.
  2. Then the router must be left disconnected for 10-15 seconds.
  3. After that, the router is connected back to the network and wait until the indicators on it light up.

After the indication on the router appears, you can check if access to the Internet has appeared. Usually, after a reboot, the Internet appears within 7-10 seconds.

Checking network settings

Network settings are data that allow a computer to connect to the network distributed by the provider. These settings are issued by the company that provides Internet access (usually they are spelled out in the service agreement). Sometimes the settings on the computer get lost, and because of this, the device cannot connect to the Internet.

In order to check the network settings, you need to open the "Protocol Properties". You can do it like this:

  1. Go to "Control Panel" through the "Start" menu.
    "Control Panel" is located in the right menu "Start"
  2. Select "Network and Internet".
    In order to find the desired section, select the "Category" view option in the upper right corner of the screen
  3. Open the "Network and Sharing Center" section.
    In the "Network Control Center" you can check the status of the connection, create a new network, carry out almost any actions with your Internet connection
  4. On the left, find the "Change adapter settings" section.
    Find the "Change adapter settings" section
  5. In the list of networks, select the one you need, right-click on it and find the item "Properties". Only an administrator can open "Properties".
    The desired network will be called "Local Area Connection" or "Ethernet"
  6. In the list, find the item "Internet Protocol version 4", select it by pressing the left mouse button once. After that, the "Properties" button under the list is activated, you need to click on it.
    An item is selected by a single left-click. You do not need to uncheck the box next to the item

When the window is open, you still need to understand what settings should be entered. There are three options:

Let's figure out what IPoE and PPPoE protocols are, but we won't go into terminology. It is enough to understand what protocol is used on your communication line. To do this, just look at the network settings issued by the provider (specified in the contract).

The settings can be as follows:

  • password and login are used on PPPoE protocol,
  • IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS are used on IPoE.

If PPPoE is used and you are connected directly, that is, you do not use a router, after checking the settings through the protocol properties, you need to recreate the network.

  1. Return to the "Network and Sharing Center".
    This configures only PPPoE connection. Protocol properties are used to configure wired IPoE connection
  2. Open the item "Create and configure a new connection".
    Switching items is done by single clicking the left mouse button
  3. Select "Create and configure a new network" and click "Next".
    The selected item will be highlighted with a bright blue background.
  4. Click on the "High Speed" option.
    It may take several minutes to wait for available connections
  5. If an error appears, select "Create a connection anyway".
    This error appears quite often, but you can still create a connection
  6. Next, you will need to enter the network settings, as well as the network name - this is the name of the connection. You can use the name of the provider company or something else.
    The connection name is its name, and the username and password are the network settings. It's worth noting that the password has nothing to do with the Wi-Fi key

After that, the network will be reconfigured, and you will need to check the availability of network access.

Reset TCP / IP Settings

Sometimes internal system errors can be the cause of problems. TCP / IP is a set of network protocols responsible for data transmission. You can reset it as follows:

Driver check

The reason for the lack of access can be outdated drivers (usually this problem is associated with a recent update of the operating system). Let's check their condition.

In addition, by right-clicking on the name of the driver, you can select the "Delete" item, and then restart the computer. Then, upon power on, the system will automatically install the missing driver.

After uninstalling the drivers and restarting the computer, the system will automatically install the appropriate drivers

If there is an exclamation mark next to the driver icon, you will need to completely reinstall the drivers and check the operability of the network card installed in the computer.

The default gateway is unavailable

Network diagnostics can help you find the next problem. Right-click on the icon of your connection, select "Troubleshooting".

By right-clicking on the icon, you can open the "Network Control Center"

If after system diagnostics a message appears stating that the gateway is not available, the following steps may help.

Prevent unplugging the network adapter to save energy

Sometimes the system turns off the network adapter - the device that allows you to connect to the Internet - to save energy. Try to disable this option.

  1. Search for "Device Manager" through the search bar in the Start menu.
    Opening the "Device Manager" through search is not the only way, but the most convenient
  2. Expand the "Network adapters" tab, select the required one, right-click on it.
    In the context menu, click on "Properties"
  3. Select "Properties" and open the "Power Management" tab.
    Changing these settings will help to solve the problem of disconnecting the Internet after the computer goes to sleep
  4. Uncheck the box next to "Allow this device to be turned off to save power" and save the data.
    After changing the settings, do not forget to save them by clicking on the "OK" button

Updating or reinstalling drivers

Also through the "Device Manager" you can update the drivers: expand the "Network adapters" tab, right-click on the network driver and select "Update" or "Uninstall", then restart your computer.

If the action does not help, you can download the drivers from the websites of their manufacturers and install them yourself. Manufacturers usually offer to download drivers in an “.exe” file format, so you only need to run the downloaded file and accept the agreement to install.

Error 651 occurs when connecting to the Internet via a router

This error occurs when trying to connect via PPPoE protocol. Rarely, but it happens that users create a new high-speed connection while the ISP is using the IPoE protocol. Therefore, first of all, make sure that you are using the PPPoE protocol.

After that, you will need to recreate the connection. The process is described in detail in the "Checking network settings" section (all you need to do is create a new connection through the "Network Control Center"). If that doesn't work, read on.

Disable antivirus

Sometimes antivirus programs block access to the internet. Disabling your antivirus can often be the solution. Right-click on its icon in the control panel and select "Disable". Sometimes antiviruses block access to the network even in the "sleeping" state, so you can try not only to disable, but also to completely remove this software. If this action helped, report the situation to the antivirus technical support.

Router problems

There are several router-related problems that can cause problems:

  • incorrectly connected cable;
  • incorrectly entered settings.

Try the following first:

  1. Disconnect the router from the network.
  2. Without connecting the router, unplug the network cable and plug it back into the WAN / INTERNET port, making sure that the plastic clip on the plug clicks when plugging in.
  3. If the cable goes from the router to the computer, disconnect it from the LAN connector on the router itself and from the network card connector on the computer, and then plug it back in.
  4. Connect the router to the network.

If access does not appear, check the network settings entered on the router. In order to go to the router, you need to enter "192.168.1.1" or "192.168.0.1" in any browser (in the address bar). Sometimes the address at which you can log into the router is different, so if you cannot log in through the specified addresses, check the data in the instructions.

Files are not downloaded from the Internet

It may also happen that the Internet access is active, and the files are not downloaded. This problem is usually associated not with the Internet itself, but with the computer, software.

What you can try:

  • try to download a file from another source - you may not be able to download something simply because the resource does not support downloading;
  • try downloading through other browsers;
  • scan your computer for malicious software using any official antivirus.

Internet multimedia does not work

It happens that the Internet works, but video or audio materials are not played. What to do in this case? First, check if the files downloaded to the computer can be played. Perhaps the cause of the problem lies directly in the sound settings of the computer. If files are played from a computer, but not from the Internet, read on.

The first thing to do is to understand what is causing this problem. It may lie in a browser error, missing plugins. To get your computer up and running, do the following:

PPPoE Diagnostics

Additionally, in order to find out the causes of errors when using PPPoE, you can use the "Troubleshooting Center". Then the system will independently check for errors and suggest possible solutions.

PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) is an Ethernet communication protocol that works on a point-to-point basis and gives the user a number of options: encryption, authentication and data compression. It is required for the user authorization system, which makes it easier to track the time of provision and payment of network services.

Right-click on the network connection icon and click the "Troubleshoot" button. After that, an analysis will be made, Windows will try to cope with the difficulties on its own, after which it will offer you to perform several actions.

Error 619

Restart your computer and disable all security systems: antivirus and Windows Firewall. The latter is disabled in the following way:

Error 633

There is only one solution:

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Try connecting to the internet again.
  3. Create a new connection.

Error 638

The main reasons for the occurrence:

  • damage to the network cable;
  • malfunction of drivers or network card;
  • incorrect connection setting;
  • problems with the network equipment (router);
  • presence of viruses on the computer.

First of all, do two things: check the integrity of the cable and the presence of an indication on the router. Never neglect these steps in case of problems with the Internet, so as not to waste time trying to solve the problem caused by mechanical damage.

It is clear that if the cable is damaged, you need to call the provider. But if there is no indication on the router (which means that the device is de-energized), you should try to reconnect the router to a different outlet before replacing it.

After checking the operation of the router and the integrity of the cable, check the computer for viruses with any antivirus program.

If the above does not help, re-create the network connection - check the correctness of the entered settings both on the router through its settings, and on the computer itself through the protocol properties. Both actions are described in detail in the previous paragraphs of the article.

Error 691

The only reason for error 691 is incorrectly entered password and login (network settings). Therefore, the first thing you need to do is re-create the connection. The process has already been described earlier - you need to go to the "Network Control Center", select the "Create a new connection" item and then enter the correct network settings. After that, restart your computer and check your internet connection.

If the action does not help, report the problem to your provider. It is possible that there was an accident on the line, which caused the error.

Error 720

The easiest way to fix this problem is to reinstall the operating system. To do this, just download the operating system file from the Windows website to a disk (or purchase a disk in a store) and run it on your computer.

You can also try updating the TCP / IP protocol. The action is described above, but you can perform a deeper operation by completely reinstalling the stack. It is dangerous to reinstall the stack on your own - you will have to work with system files, and their damage will affect the operation of the computer. Therefore, try to simply refresh the stack, and if the action does not help, contact your ISP or professional technician for help.

The network cable is not connected

If, when checking the connection status, a message appears stating that the network cable is not connected, the first thing to do is really check that it is connected correctly and not damaged. Try using a different network cable if possible.

Make sure the cable is connected correctly. On the router, the network cable must be connected to the WAN or INTERNET port, and the cable leading from the router to the computer must be connected to the LAN connector. There is usually only one port on a computer, so it can be hard to go wrong.

The WAN or INTERNET port is used to connect a network cable to the router, and the LAN ports are used to route cables to computers

Next, check the status of the router (if any). Its indicators should be on as usual. If there is no indication, reconnect the router to a different outlet, try resetting the settings on the router (using the “Reset” or “Reset” button) and re-enter them. You should only reset the settings if you are sure that you can configure the router yourself.

Also check the status of the network adapter drivers and try updating them.

Additional verification of security settings

Security settings can also be responsible for many of these problems. This applies when the PPPoE protocol is used. Therefore, if the suggested operations do not help to solve your case, try checking the connection security settings.

  1. Open the "Network Connections" section.
  2. Right click on your connection.
  3. Open the "Security" section and set the use of "Insecure password" in the list that opens.

These are the main ways to diagnose connectivity on Windows 7 and troubleshoot problems. Do not forget that the reason for the lack of the Internet can be a banal debt or an accident on the line. If the methods described above did not help you, contact the provider so that the technicians can diagnose and solve the problem from their side.

The sudden termination of the Internet does not allow you to complete the planned tasks - to relax or work, since modern services and games are firmly tied to the Internet. A description of the most common errors collected in the article will help you find a solution and resume the Internet.

Before diving into the solution to an emerging problem, you need to perform a basic check. Recommendations apply to all errors, and often solve problems that arise with the lack of an Internet connection.

  1. Balance check. Make sure that there are enough funds in your account to use the service. Sometimes providers change the cost of the tariff without prior notice, payment systems do not transfer funds on time, there is a failure when the provider withdraws money from the account.
  2. Check the correctness of the login and password. Many companies connect to the Internet via PPPoE and provide the subscriber with prepared data for authorization. It is often easy to confuse characters because of the font, and some letters are not printed. Check with your provider. Rewrite the data in a text editor in advance; when copying, make sure not to capture the "space". Also, make sure to select the entire text and not select additional characters if there is additional information in the file.
  3. Ensure correct and tight cable connections. Connect the wires carefully, which is important if you have routers or splitters. Install the cable firmly to avoid disconnection.
  4. Take your time with radical solutions. Often, "specialists" working for the provider recommend reinstalling the operating system, while the problem was solved by a simple restart of the computer. Redo the previously performed problem solutions. If the problem persists, reinstall the OS.

If the article does not have a solution to your problem or the described methods did not solve the problem, contact your provider.

Error 619

Reason 1: incorrect security settings

  1. Open network connections.
  2. Select connection properties.
  3. Click on the "Security" tab and check the set parameters.

Reason 2: the network card connector is not working or is disconnected

Check the functionality of the network card in Device Manager. Make sure the card appears in the list of installed hardware. Install or reinstall the network card drivers.

Error 629

Reason 1: session started

Often, when connecting, a double start of the session is triggered, for example, the dialog box freezes and you clicked connect twice. Or the previous session was closed incorrectly. Reconnect after 3-5 minutes or restart your computer.

Reason 2: TCP / IP protocol parameters not set or reset

Check the IP address and DNS server settings. Sometimes values \u200b\u200bare set incorrectly or reset when a system error occurs. Also, check the correctness of the login and password.

Error 651

Usually the problem occurs due to a problem with the network equipment - a modem or router. Sometimes due to software or hardware failure of the network card. Therefore, it is necessary to double-check the performance of network devices. Details are described in a separate material available in the software.

Error 678

There is no connection between the computer and the provider's equipment.

Reason 1: malfunctions of the provider's equipment

Contact your Internet provider to find out why you are not online. Check if repair work is being carried out, whether it is possible to remotely check the integrity of the network cable.

Reason 2: failure or malfunction of the network card / connector

In case of power surges or thunderstorms, the network card connector or the entire module burns out. If possible, install a PCI or USB network card and check the connection. The problem is often solved by reinstalling the drivers.

Reason 3: blocking by antivirus or firewall

Suspend the built-in or installed firewall, as well as antivirus. Review the program settings. Sometimes, setting a high security level results in blocking outgoing and incoming requests.

Reason 4: presence of viruses or software failure of the OS

Restart your computer, check the system for malware. Some Trojans deliberately block access to the network.

Reason 5: router crash or breakdown

Connect a network cable without a router, check the internet is working. If the connection is established, it is likely that the equipment is malfunctioning, out of order, or settings are lost.

Error 691

Usually the problem occurs when the username and password are entered incorrectly. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts, the provider blocks the account for a certain period. You need to check the entered data and try again later, after 30-60 minutes, or contact the provider.

For more details on how to solve error 691, read our separate.

Error 711

The problem occurs when one or more services are not active on your computer that are used to connect and maintain the Internet.

  1. Open the "System and Security" section in the control panel.
  2. The next section is "Administration".
  3. Find and open "Services".
  4. Find the four services one by one:
  1. Enable non-running services. If the service is active, replace "automatic" startup with "manual" startup. Make sure to use an administrator account that has rights to change the state of services.

Error 718

Reason 1: incorrect login or software failure when establishing a connection

Usually, a notification appears when you enter an incorrect login, or the operation of the program responsible for the connection is broken. Therefore, you should double-check the correctness of the entered data, taking into account the case and keyboard layout.

Reason 2: firewall is blocking the connection

It is unlikely, but checking the firewall and / or antivirus is worth it. Sometimes defense mechanisms are set up to prevent the connection from being made.

Reason 3: incorrect modem disconnection or session termination

Most often, the problem lies in the incorrect disconnection of network equipment or the end of the Internet session. Do not disconnect the modem while the Internet is working, disconnect and reconnect the cable while using the Internet. More problems occur during power outages. The problem is solved, usually by turning off the computer for 5-10 minutes and then turning it on again.

Reason 4: the provider is doing repairs

Some providers that provide services via a USB modem, this error is listed as "maintenance work". Contact your ISP hotline to clarify the circumstances.

Error 720

Reinstall the network card drivers.

Instructions:

  1. Go to Device Manager, My Computer Properties, or System and Security in Control Panel.
  2. Open the properties of the network adapter.
  3. On the "driver" tab, click on the update or uninstall button to reinstall it.
  4. Upon completion of the process, restart your computer and try to reconnect to the network.

If the problem persists, reset your network settings.

Important! Further actions will change part of the registry, so some programs will stop functioning. These applications will need to be reinstalled.

Instructions:

  1. Click "start" from the system menu or keyboard.
  2. Search for CMD, and then enter two commands in sequence:

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt;

netsh winsock reset.

  1. Restart your computer and reconnect to the network.

If both of the above methods do not solve the problem, reinstall the operating system.

Error 769

Usually the problem is with the modem drivers. Download the latest drivers and perform a clean install. Then, disconnect the modem, restart the computer, connect the modem and reconnect to the Internet.

Sometimes the problem is with the network adapter. It helps to "turn off" and then "turn on" in the section "Device Manager".

Additionally, check your firewall and / or antivirus settings. Sometimes high or manual settings block network access.

Error 797

There is no driver for the modem in use. Download the driver from the official website of the manufacturer and perform a clean install. When finished, restart your computer.

Error 800

The problem occurs due to the lack of access to the VPN server. Check if the local network is enabled, and in the settings of the VPN server, in the "computer name" field, the address is 192.168.1.1. Better to remove the connection and re-configure.

Also temporarily disable the work of the firewall and antivirus. If the connection is successful, change the protection settings of the programs blocking the connection.

Error 815

Under this number, the error occurs only on Windows Vista. In other versions of the system, the error code is different - 678, 769 and 651.

Reason 1: failure of the network card

Recheck the network card in Device Manager. Open the context menu with the right button, where select the "disable" item, and after a short time, re-enable the card in the same way.

Sometimes you need to reinstall or update drivers. The absence of the adapter in the list of connected devices indicates the need to install drivers. If the installation process fails or the drivers fail to resolve the issue, the network adapter is probably out of order and requires careful diagnostics. Alternatively, use an external or embedded network card.

Reason 2: mechanical failure of the network cable

Recheck the integrity of the wires going to the modem / router and computer. Contact your provider and request the ability to remotely diagnose cables to your equipment / computer.

Error 868

The problem occurs in some builds of Windows 7 due to incorrect operation of the DNS client. There is no unambiguous and universal solution, since each case is individual. Alternatively, changing the OS or installing another version 8 or 10 sometimes helps.

Sometimes reconnection helps and after 10-20 attempts the connection is successful. Also, use DNS servers 208.67.220.220 or 208.67.222.222.

Output

If you do not have an Internet connection, but you know the error code, you can easily find a solution from this article. Some errors occur for several reasons, so sometimes you need to perform several consecutive steps.

By default, from a laptop or computer when using a Wi-Fi connection, the Internet and the network should connect automatically. The user does not have to think about what and where to include, as when working with a wired Internet.

Here one of the main advantages of this connection is the ability to turn on from the first second, without waiting.

But it also happens that it was not possible to automatically connect to the proxy server. What it looks like and what to do for a simple beginner in the Internet community in this case. The reason for this problem is hidden in the settings for connecting to the proxy server. You could change them:

  • accidentally - by a combination of keys, or in case of a sudden blackout (in the absence of an uninterruptible power supply), etc.;
  • due to a virus - very often the settings fail due to not completely removed malware (software).

What do proxy connection errors look like?

The complexity of such problems is that with the Internet connected, which will look like it is turned on in the command line, and even torrents will work and Skype may work, but it will become impossible to start working in any window. It will open but not load. Everywhere it will be written that there is no connection to the proxy server.

The signature can be in English, in Russian. Only one tab or different browsers may not open. Or maybe such an error occurs in all browsers.

There is no connection to the proxy server, which means that somewhere the automatic connection to the network is broken, which does not require human intervention.

No connection to the server

An important note - problems with automatic connection have nothing to do with the operating system (OS). Therefore, there can be no problems here. The difference will be small only in fixing such a problem on different operating systems -7, or 8, or 10.

In this case, the main thing is not to hysteria, not to say that the repair will cost a lot of money. And it is not necessary, in a fit of imbalance and with a hot head, to start with:

  1. Reinstallation of browser (s);
  2. Reinstalls the entire OS.

Fixing a connection error using the Chrome browser as an example

To fix proxy connection errors in any browser, the first thing a user should find is simple Settings.

After clicking the button, a window with settings opens. But not all of them may be displayed. Therefore, you need to look at the window for the user, and if there is nothing with a proxy server signature, click the Change proxy server settings button. Then the user will see on the screen a window in which you should already choose to change the Internet settings.

It will automatically open on the connection parameter (if not, you need to select it) and then click the button - Network settings.

After that, in a new window, the user must check the automatic parameter detection option and click ok to fix the connection.

And then the apply button is pressed and you can check the error correction. Mozilla works in a similar way. But the end of the procedure is slightly different. Through Settings, there are Advanced, then Networks and there you can select Configure. Be sure to select the item WITHOUT PROXY. It will be better this way.

Fixes via browser properties

After the user has corrected the disconnect settings in all browsers, you need to refresh the connection through Windows. For this, the following sequence of actions is performed:

  1. Browser properties are selected via Start and Control Panel.
  2. In the new window that appears, the automatic connection to the proxy is selected again (the window will be one-to-one, as when corrected in Google Chrome). And changes are accepted.

Checking your internet connection

And now you can try to correct the automatic connection to networks using the tools available in the OS. To do this, select Start, then Control Panel and Network Control Center.

Network Control Center

Then you need to select - change adapter settings. Then there you will need to move the mouse to the "local area connection" shortcut and select properties after right-clicking.

In the connection to the local network, in the Networks tab, check the box or select the line Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)... And as always, click OK.

Then you need to make this line active with the connection, stand on it, and click the Properties button, which is just below. A new window will appear. Both IP and DNS addresses must be automatically selected in it.

Just in case, you can also run the following phrase through the command line - ipconfig / flushdns. But this requires administrative rights.

Correction of virus errors of automatic connection

The situation will be worse if the automatic settings have failed due to a failure, a blackout, or an incompletely cleaned virus. Then the computer will have to be "cured". Settings due to a virus can fail in two cases:

  1. After checking with antivirus;
  2. Because of the virus caught.

You can fix such errors with the same antivirus. But the program should be simpler so as not to intrude on the settings, for example, this AVZ.

In this program, you should select the restoration of the system settings through the "File" and put all the checkmarks, exactly as in the figure below. Then you should click to perform the marked operations.

After that, you can reload the browser and try to see if the Internet pages open.

As for the anti-virus programs themselves, in this case it is better to use one-time scanners, without permanent installation on the computer. It can be:

  • Kaspersky remontal tool;
  • Dr.web

Registry cleaning - as an option to fix auto-connect to the network

Another option to fix automatic connection is clean the registers.

In the operating line of the OS window, type HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \\ SOFTWARE \\ Microsoft \\ WindowsNT \\ CurrentVersion \\ Windows \\

In the window that opens, you need to check the folder or file Appinit_DLLs. There should be nothing in it!

In version 10 of the OS, this file will be named AutoAdminLogan.

All possible options for fixing the connection to the proxy server have been sorted out. If all else fails, then you should call the master. It means that something more serious happened to the computer than the settings that have flown off.

Connection failed error message - what to do?

Another problem with connections to networks and with working on social networks. Very often, when loading sites on the Internet, an annoying window appears with the following content:

Connection failed error

The same error is very often referred to on the network as the connectionfailure error. Such inaccuracies should be remembered when searching. This is just that magical option, when you can enter some sites, but knocks out such a mistake on others. There are probably no reasons for the virus. In most cases, this problem is caused by:

  1. Blocking firewall (denies access to the site or sites);
  2. Communication problem (there is no connection with the site yet);
  3. The antivirus automatically banned this site;
  4. The settings have been changed with your internet service provider.

To solve the problem with the firewall, you will have to enable and disable the brandmauer. In case of blocking sites due to the enabled antivirus, you will have to disable such blocking on the antivirus. This is how it might look on Avast. All you need is to update your antivirus to remove blocking links.

Updating signatures

And if there is no truth in any of the proposed options, then all that remains is to call the provider and find out if preventive work is being carried out somewhere. And there is such an option that they cut the wires in the yard or the user did not pay for the services.

Configuring network access and disconnection on Windows 7, 8, 10

Connecting a computer or laptop to the network can be done in two ways:

  • through a wired network;
  • over a wireless network using Wi-Fi.

But besides these nuances, there is also a type of operating system that needs to be considered. And if the seven and eight with modifications are similar to each other, then the top ten may have their own difficulties.

How to connect an Internet connection via a wired cable and via a wireless network for Windows 7 is published in great detail and is officially available on the Windows website. You need to connect version 8 to the Internet in about the same way.

Thus, the user will not be confused and not lost if the computer suddenly starts cursing about inaccessible pages. It will be enough to first try all the above methods on your own, and only then go to the workshop.

Probably, very many users of computer systems using Miniport WAN PPPoE technology or a high-speed connection to connect to the Internet sometimes encounter an ambiguous problem when, instead of the expected access to the Network, the error message 651 (connection error) appears on the screen. What is it and how to fix this situation? Looking ahead, we immediately note that this is done quite simply.

when connected): what is it?

Let's start by looking at the nature of this failure. Typically, the text of the message indicates that the modem or router will return an error when trying to use their settings to connect.

In other words, there is a problem either at the physical or at the software level, which is blocking access. We will not go into the details of the description of the technologies themselves used to create or establish a connection, but we will dwell more on the causes of such failures and the simplest methods of fixing them.

Reasons for the error

It goes without saying that the very reasons due to which error 651 occurs when connecting to the Internet (Windows systems are taken as an example) can be quite many. Of all this variety, only those that are found most often can be distinguished and are, so to speak, the main ones:

  • physical damage to equipment and cables;
  • incorrect work of the PPPoE client;
  • the presence of a double connection to the network;
  • blocking the connection with antiviruses and built-in Windows tools;
  • incorrect parameters in the router settings, etc.

Based on what is presented in the list, we will look for a solution to eliminate failure 651 (connection error) for each specific case.

If physical damage is present

First of all, if suddenly a computer or laptop issues warnings of this kind, you should not immediately look for the reason, say, in viruses or in the "meeting" of network connection settings. Everything may turn out to be trivially simple: maybe the network cable is damaged, maybe there was a power surge, maybe the connectors are loose somewhere, but you never know what?

Naturally, it is advisable to check all the components or "ring" the cable. However, a simpler option often helps. To begin with, in the warning window, click on the line with the proposal to reconnect. Who knows, maybe it was a fleeting glitch. If this does not help, you can try to completely restart the computer terminal and At the same time, between turning off and then turning on the router, you need to pause for at least 10 seconds to reset the settings, and then wait until it is fully loaded. If this is not done, the system will again display a message like "Error 651 while connecting to the Internet." On the other hand, this approach may not help if the initial problem of communication failure is much deeper. Let's see what else it can be?

Error 651 when connecting to the Internet: RASPPPoE client failure

When used for creation, most often failures of this kind are observed in the work of specialized modules, including the client responsible for PPPoE.

Let's dwell on this client in more detail. Typically, creating a new connection is supposed to be the primary remedy.

To do this, you need to use the Win + R key combination, which calls the Run menu, where the rasphone.exe command is written in the line. Next, you should choose one of three options (for PPPoE, a high-speed connection via modem or DSL is used), after which you just need to follow the instructions of the "Wizard".

Accordingly, the newly created connection must be checked for operability. If the connection error 651 is observed in the new connection (Windows 7, for example), then you will have to check some parameters and settings. First of all, make sure that the router and Wi-Fi module on your computer or laptop are turned on. Perhaps the wrong parameters are set for VPN networks, etc. But first things first.

Extraneous network presence

One of the reasons for such failures can be the presence of a second connection, for example, when two network adapters with two parallel sessions are installed on the user's computer. In this case, failure 651 (error when connecting the Internet) Windows 7 interprets exactly as an internal conflict, when one connection takes precedence over the other (in particular, for cases when services are provided by two different providers).

Remember, if you just disconnect the cable from one network card, there will be no sense. To do this, go to the Network and Sharing Management section and disable one of the adapters there (menu for changing adapter settings). In this case, you should not delete it in the "Device Manager", this may negatively affect the system as a whole.

Antivirus and firewall issues

Very often a situation can be observed when the connection is blocked for some reason at the level of antivirus software or Windows firewall. In such a situation, you can first try to disable the antivirus for a while (many packages provide such a function). However, as practice shows, for the worse the firewall is more different here.

It should be turned off completely. For this, the standard "Control Panel" is used, where the appropriate section is selected. The system will issue a couple of warnings, but you shouldn't pay attention to this. By the way, many may ask the question, they say, why is it necessary completely? Yes, just because it will not work to add an Internet connection to the list of exceptions. This is not an "executable" or any other executable program file for you.

Incorrect router and protocol settings

Now let's look at the most common problem when the router's settings "fly off", and the system reports that a connection error 651 has occurred. How to fix this situation? First, you need to check the basic settings of the same router.

You can enter them through any of the Internet browsers by entering either 192.168.0.1 or 162.168.1.1 in the address bar (it all depends on the router model). Generally, this address can be found on the label below. There you can also find out the login and password, if any.

First of all, you should pay attention to the address of the VPN server (for PPTP and L2PT connections). In addition, for ONT terminals on the router, you must use the "transparent bridge" mode (Bridge), otherwise the system, when trying to connect, will again display the error message 651 (connection error).

Next, you should compare the TCP / IP settings with those provided by the provider upon connection. As a last resort, you can try to set automatic detection, as well as disable the use of proxies for local addresses.

Additional registry actions for server operating systems

Failure to connect to the Internet), of course, can also occur on server versions of Windows. In particular, this applies to the modification of Windows 2003 Server. Here the specifics of fixing the problem are somewhat different, although the above methods sometimes help.

But in this case it is better to use the system registry editor called by the regedit command from the Run menu bar (Win + R), where you need to navigate the HKLM tree branch through the SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet sections and further to the Parameters folder located in the Tcpip directory.

Here you should first create a DWORD parameter named EnableRSS and assign it a value of 0, and then in the same section - a DWORD parameter named DisableTskOffload with a value of 1. If this particular parameter is already present in the registry, you just need to change the value by one. After that, without fail, for the changes to take effect, the computer terminal must be restarted.

Outcome

In general, only the most common cases of Type 651 malfunctions are considered here. We did not consider situations when problems arise from the provider (here the user cannot do anything). We also did not take into account situations where you might need to reinstall or update network drivers. Otherwise, as can be seen from the above, the problem is solved quite simply.

Today the Internet has become an integral part of everyday life for us. Having constant access to the global network is a prerequisite for comfortable work, communication and entertainment. Over time, for greater convenience of users, wi-fi routers and wireless adapters have replaced the wired network. However, sometimes, instead of the declared convenience, one trouble may await you - an error of the form: "Windows system cannot connect to the Internet via a wi-fi connection."

Causes of the error "Windows cannot connect to the wi-fi network"

This error appears on the monitor screen immediately after an attempt to automatically (or manually) connect to the Internet, which is a notification window about a connection failure.

There are several reasons for this error, the most common of which are:

  • freezing of service commands of Windows OS or router;
  • incorrect input of the "network key" (password) when connecting;
  • malfunction of the wireless wi-fi adapter drivers;
  • failure of the Internet connection settings in the Windows system.

Solution to the problem: first steps

No matter how trite it may sound, the first thing to do is to check the network connection of the router (router), as well as the wi-fi adapter to your PC (laptop). If all indicators are lit with a stable green light (power, Internet signal status), then try restarting the router, and then the computer. If the problem persists, proceed to the next steps.

Checking the "network security key"

The next, relatively simple, solution would be to check that the "network security key" (password) was entered correctly when trying to connect to a wireless connection. Even if you are sure that the password was entered correctly, you should still check it in the router settings. To do this, you need to follow a series of steps:

The following instruction will be shown on the example of a "SAGEMCOM" brand router, however, the settings in each router are the same, only the appearance of the settings windows, subcategories and the names of individual items may differ.

  1. Open any Internet browser and enter the IP address of your router into the line (a factory information sticker is usually located on the back of the router). Usually this address is of two types: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. In the authorization window that appears, enter your login and password (by default, you must enter the word "admin" in both lines).

    If you enter an incorrect username / password, a page with an error "401 Unauthorized" will appear

  2. Go to the "Security" settings item (it is always in the category with the name "Wireless network settings" or "WLAN settings").
  3. Find the line with the words "WPA / WAPI / PSK password" and see (check) the "network security key" registered there. If the key does not differ from the password you enter, then proceed to the next solution to the problem.

    In the "SSID" setting field, you can also select the required connection from all existing ones on your PC

Sometimes a technical failure of the router may occur, which leads to an incorrect saving of the "network security key" settings, therefore the author of this article advises to re-enter the "WPA / WAPI / PSK password", apply / save it and then restart the router / computer.

Installing (updating) the driver of the wireless wi-fi adapter

Like any electronic device, a wireless wi-fi adapter needs constant driver updates. An outdated version, or even its complete absence, can lead to an Internet connection problem. Therefore, to solve it, you need to do the following:

  1. Through the "Start" menu, open the "Control Panel" setting.

    You can find the Control Panel on Windows 10 by going to Start / All Apps / System Tools

  2. In the window that appears, select the "Device Manager" item.

    Device Manager can also be launched by using the Windows search bar

  3. Find the category "Network adapters", select the model of your wireless wi-fi adapter by clicking RMB, click on the line "Update drivers".

    Update the drivers by selecting the appropriate function from the context menu

  4. After that, the automatic driver update will start. When finished, restart your computer.

Video: How to Update and Install Network Hardware Drivers

For optimal operation of the Windows system, it is necessary to regularly update the drivers, not only of the wireless wi-fi adapter, but also of other devices. Therefore, the author of this article recommends using special utilities (for example: "Driver Reviver", "DreverPack", "Driver Booster" and others) to scan the OS for outdated drivers, with their subsequent automatic update. Thanks to such utilities, you will save your time.

Setting up a wireless connection

It happens that the cause is a failure of the wireless connection settings. To restore the settings, you must:

  1. Open the "Control Panel", go to the settings item "Network and Sharing Center".

    You can also open the "Network and Sharing Center" settings window by using the Windows search bar

  2. Select "Change adapter parameters".

    By clicking on the "Network" icon, you can get detailed information about the Internet devices connected to the computer

  3. Next, right-click on the "Wireless Network Connection" icon and click on the "Properties" menu.

    If a red cross is lit in front of the wireless connection, then there is a problem with its settings

  4. From all the components select the line "Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP / IPv4), go to" Properties ".

    A network with Internet Protocol version 6 is more modern, but in Russia all well-known providers use protocol version 4

  5. In the properties of the protocol, put markers in front of two parameters: "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain a DNS server address automatically".

    Even if both markers are in the right places, still reconfigure and re-save the parameters.

  6. Close the "Network and Sharing Center" settings and connect to the wi-fi network.

Diagnose and troubleshoot network problems

If the problem with the wi-fi connection remains relevant, then it is worth conducting an automatic diagnosis of network problems using the appropriate Windows tool.

  1. You need to go back to the settings panel "Network and Sharing Center" (through the "Control Panel" Windows), and select "Troubleshoot".

    You can also launch the Troubleshoot tool by right-clicking the Network icon (on the bottom taskbar of your desktop)

  2. In the menu that appears, select the line "Internet Connections".

    Additionally, you can diagnose the category "Network adapter"

  3. Then follow the prompts and wait for the end of the diagnosis, followed by the elimination of the errors found.

    By clicking on the "Advanced" menu, you can configure automatic / manual elimination of found errors

  4. After the procedure, restart your computer and try to connect to a wireless wi-fi network.

Finding a solution by viewing the Windows "event log"

If none of the solutions to the problem could help, then you have a "special case". To identify the cause of the malfunction, you should use the Windows "event log". This will help you find out the code of the system error that has occurred for further actions to fix it. For this:

The "Event Log" can also be found through the Windows "Control Panel" in the "Administrative Tools" tab

  • In the window that opens, in the left column, go to the following path: "Utilities" / "Event Viewer" / "Windows Logs" / "System".

    By selecting the entire "Windows Logs" folder, you can find out the general statistics of the number of events

  • Then, select the "log filter" tool located on the right side of the window. In the filtering settings window, it is necessary to mark all sources related to the Internet connection, such as:
  • In the filtered list of events, find those conflicting with the system (marked with a red icon with an exclamation mark). Click on the error and find the line "event code" in the description.
  • Thanks to this code, you can find out the causes of a system malfunction on the Internet, for further solutions.
  • To search for solutions to "special cases" by "event codes", the author of this article recommends using the official Microsoft support site (https://support.microsoft.com/en-ru). Since it has an extensive database of existing "Windows error codes" (in particular related to network connectivity). You just need to use the search engine on the site by entering the “event code” of interest.

    To search for a solution to the problem by the "event code", you can use the site's search engine

    Most of the errors associated with connecting to a wireless wi-fi network consist either in the absence of installed drivers for the wi-fi adapter, or in the failure of the settings of the Internet connection itself on the PC. In addition to the "manual solution" of these problems, you can also use the built-in Windows tool - "System Diagnostics", to automatically find and fix problems that have arisen. To solve "special cases", an "event log" is provided, thanks to which you can get additional information on all faults for their further solution.
