For several years now, I have been a user of Android smartphones. I am also familiar with devices on iOS, but, to be honest, somehow my friendship with them did not work out. It's hard to explain: I just didn't like it - that's all. There was a desire to get to know more about "vinphones", but for this I am not ready to sacrifice 200-300 US dollars (that is how much the average models on this OS previously cost). Fortunately, in mid-2014, Microsoft allowed more than a select few companies such as Nokia and HTC to make WinPhones. The most inexpensive "WinPhone" today can be purchased for 3,990 rubles, this is the Highscreen WinJoy. In my humble opinion, the price is more than attractive, but I chose a more expensive model for the test - Highscreen WinWin for 4 490 rubles. Actually, I'll talk about it below.

Equipment

The Highscreen WinWin package is the first difference from its cheaper counterpart. In addition to the usual components - charger, microUSB-USB cable, warranty, headphones and instructions - this model comes with two interchangeable rear panels. The first is made of black velvety black soft-touch plastic, while the second is made of yellow matte plastic. That is, if you wish, you can quickly and easily "update" the appearance of your smartphone. By the way, many Highscreen Android models also come with several interchangeable backs - for example, the Highscreen Omega Prime Mini comes with five covers.

As for the box in which all of the above is folded, it is decorated in a rather unusual way - you cannot confuse it with any other brand. The box is made of rough, rough cardboard. On its side faces the name of the model is written, and on the upper part the smartphone itself is depicted as if "in a cut". On the front side, in addition to the screen, there is a front camera, earpiece, as well as light and proximity sensors. Under the display there are three touch-sensitive control keys with white backlight. In general, in smartphones on Windows Phone, they are extremely rarely brought to the screen.

The color rendition is also all right, as well as the brightness level. The only thing missing in the Highscreen WinWin screen is the viewing angles, although some see this as a plus, they say, no one on public transport will look into “private affairs”.

For those who do not know, I will say that absolutely all smartphones on the Windows Phone platform are based on Qualcomm chipsets, and the Highscreen WinWin model is no exception to the rule. This model uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 MSM8212 quad-core 1.2GHz processor. As it should be for all "vinphones", the considered model works very quickly, even in spite of the presence of a 512 MB RAM module. I dare say that a device with exactly the same hardware, but on Android, would have worked slower.

It is quite possible to play on Highscreen WinWin, but not in very demanding games, you should not forget that the device has 512 MB of RAM. Meanwhile, for "serious" 3D-titles on "vinphones" you need at least 1 GB of "RAM".

The chipset used in Highscreen WinWin implies the presence of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules. There is also a navigation module here, and not a simple GPS, but a GPS / GLONASS that works with American and Russian satellites. The speed of searching for satellites pleased me, it takes just a few seconds, and the signal reception is good. In general, I did not find any problems with the listed wireless adapters.

Of course, there is also 3G support in Highscreen WinWin. Moreover, the smartphone has two SIM card slots. Therefore, you can insert a personal SIM card into one, and a working one into the other. Or use one for calls and the other for the Internet. It's up to you, in any case, the presence of two slots for SIM-cards is a "plus".

Battery

I will not open my eyes to anyone now, saying that one of the main "troubles" of smartphones on Android is a short battery life. Such a device with a 2,000 mAh battery lasts about 1-1.5 days. As for the "vinphones", the indicators of "autonomy" are much better. The Highscreen WinWin model is equipped with a 2,000 mAh battery, and the device needs to be recharged no more than once every 2.5 days. As for me, this is very good.

Cameras

WinWin does not pretend to be a high-quality camera, in principle, this is understandable at the price of a smartphone. The gadget uses a 5-megapixel main camera module, but, unlike most "classmates", this camera has autofocus, which significantly improves the quality of photos. An LED flash is also provided. A couple of years ago, I became the owner of the HTC Titan smartphone on the Windows Phone 7.5 platform. This model can be called almost a complete analogue of HTC Sensation XL, with the amendment that the latter was running Android. By the way, I also had Sensation at that time, so the purchase of the HTC Titan was, rather, a means for a closer acquaintance with the Windows Phone operating system.

At the time of purchase, HTC Titan came with Windows Phone 7.5, after which it received an update to version 7.8. Unfortunately, the new firmware did not remove old problems that I was not ready to put up with, the main one being the negligible number of available applications. In parallel with this device, the Russian brand Highscreen began selling another "vinphone" - Highscreen WinWin, which I became the owner of. The device is priced at 4 490 Russian rubles, while an openly budget smartphone is not felt. But let's not rush things and start in order.

Packaging and equipment

The box in which Highscreen WinWin is sold surprised me at first, but then, after looking at it and examining the Highscreen Android smartphones, I realized that this is a kind of "proprietary chip". The packaging is made of rough, rough cardboard, but very neat at the same time. The top edge of the box shows a diagram of a smartphone, which indicates its technical characteristics and the location of the main modules. In my opinion, this is quite creative and visual, and it stands out from the general mass.

As you can see, the package bundle can be called ordinary, if not for one "but", or rather two "but": two replaceable rear panels. Despite its low price, Highscreen WinWin is extremely neatly assembled. The plastic from which the body of the device is made does not emit creaks or crunches, even if you twist it or squeeze it. There are no backlashes either, the removable rear panels fit snugly, and their central part does not bend to the battery when pressed. In general, this build quality can be the envy of many more expensive smartphone models.

Highscreen WinWin looks attractive, both with a black panel and a yellow one. By the way, in many devices that are equipped with replaceable panels, the volume and power keys are mounted directly into these same panels. In the case of WinWin, the keys are built into the case, they are black and have a clear stroke. In addition, the buttons protrude slightly above the body, so they can be felt without any problems. The dual volume rocker is located on the left side of the smartphone, and the power button is on the right.

The lower end of the Highscreen WinWin is not occupied with anything, but the upper one houses a microUSB port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The entire front side of the device is covered with durable protective glass, and not plastic, as is the case with most smartphones of this class. There is a display, and under it are three standard touch-sensitive keys for operating the Windows Phone operating system: "Back", "Start" and "Search". Above the screen is the earpiece, to the left of it is the proximity sensor, and to the right is the front camera. I would like to note the compact dimensions of the device - 126 x 64 x 10.5 mm, it weighs 105 g. The smartphone fits well in the hand, and thanks to the rounded corners, the bottom end does not stick into the palm.

Screen

Highscreen WinWin uses an inexpensive 4-inch screen with an expected budget resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the image quality. The pixel density is 233 ppi, so the picture does not look grainy, rather the opposite. The color rendition is also good, but the viewing angles are small. When you tilt the smartphone, either the colors are inverted, or the brightness and contrast levels drop. It's all the fault of the TFT-TN matrix, if IPS were used here, everything would be fine with viewing angles.

The screen of the device is touch-sensitive capacitive. The sensor layer is sensitive, there are no false positives or "no positives". "Multi-touch", of course, is, however, only up to three simultaneous touches are supported. It is clear that in modern realities with a 10-point touchscreen this seems insufficient, but judge for yourself: it is rarely necessary for the screen to handle more than 2-3 touches. So it is quite possible to put up with it.

Hardware platform

As in all smartphones on the Windows Phone 8.1 platform, the Highscreen WinWin uses a hardware solution from the American company Qualcomm, in this case the Snapdragon 200 MSM8212. The chipset includes a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and an Adreno 302 graphics core. There is also 512MB of RAM. I already foresee how many are starting to grab their heads after reading about the amount of "RAM", but this is not worth doing. Unlike the hardware-intensive Android, Windows Phone doesn't need a lot of RAM to run smoothly and quickly. The smartphone works really fast.

Benchmark Results:

As for games, Highscreen WinWin is quite capable of "pulling" not only simple toys like Angry Birds, it even runs Asphalt 8 on it. In general, the performance of Highscreen WinWin pleased me.

The built-in memory storage capacity is 4 GB - not enough for comfortable work, so there is a slot for a microSD card. A 32 GB flash drive worked without problems, I couldn't test larger cards, due to my lack of them.

To be honest, I don't even know what to tell in that section. Microsoft still has not allowed to somehow modify the interface of Windows Phone of any version and Windows Phone 8.1 in particular. Highscreen WinWin is supplied with a 2000 mAh battery. A fully charged battery lasts about 2.5 days of fairly active use. Agree, an Android phone with the same battery and characteristics would be asked to plug in much faster.

Highscreen WinWin, unlike most of its "classmates", is equipped with a satellite navigation module that works not only with the American, but also with the Russian positioning system. That is, this device uses the GPS / GLONASS module. "Cold start" takes only a few seconds, and the positioning accuracy is noticeably higher than that of a simple GPS-module. I will also mention the presence of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth here. They work stably, for the entire time that I use Highscreen WinWin no failures were found.

In addition to all of the above, Highscreen WinWin provides support for two SIM cards. Card slots are designed for the usual miniSIM format. There is only one radio module here, however, as in almost all dual-sim phones on Android, so when you call one card, the second is turned off and becomes available only after the call ends.

Cameras

As I managed to notice, the bulk of such "ultra-budget" smartphones do not have front cameras, that is, you cannot talk on Skype. In the case of WinWin, video telephony services are available. The device is equipped with a simple 0.3 megapixel front camera module.

The main camera of Highscreen WinWin is, as expected, 5 megapixel. However, there is an auto focus function, which noticeably improves the quality of images in comparison with cameras of similar resolution, but without autofocus. I expected, frankly, the worst, but the smartphone made me happy, the photos are of good quality and are quite suitable for posting on Instagram.

Conclusion

Since purchasing Highscreen WinWin, I have never regretted my purchase. Despite its low price (4 490 rubles), the device is notable for its high build quality and body materials, as well as high operating speed. Also, among the "pluses" of Highscreen WinWin, I would include a capacious battery that provides 2.5 days of battery life and a camera with autofocus, which is not bad for its price. I definitely liked the smartphone, and I can safely recommend it for purchase not only to users who want to get to know more about the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system, but also everything else.

At the same time, in terms of performance, communications, display quality, camera operation and sound reproduction, the device is quite competitive.

Both devices are packed in approximately the same boxes, the only difference is in the quality and method of disclosure. WinWin has a tighter package, it can be opened by lifting the top lid. In WinJoy it is a little simpler, it opens in the standard way: the top, right and left parts fold back.

WinWin comes with a 0.8 A power adapter, and WinJoy comes with a 1 A power adapter. The WinWin headset has rubber pads and a silver call answer button. The WinJoy headset is much simpler.

The most important difference: the WinWin device has an additional replaceable yellow socket.

Introduction

Not so long ago, two smartphones on the Windows Phone operating system appeared on our market. One, as you already know, is called Highscreen WinWin and costs about 4,500 rubles, and the other is WinJoy and costs less than 4,000 rubles. The manufacturer was able to set such prices due to the fact that Microsoft at the Build-2014 developer conference announced that manufacturers of smartphones and tablets with displays less than nine inches will not have to pay licensing fees to Microsoft for using W8 and WP8.

The devices from Highscreen practically do not differ from each other, so I decided to write a comparison-review of WinWin and WinJoy in one article.

Design, dimensions, controls

Since budget devices are difficult to distinguish among the mass of similar gadgets, especially on Android OS, most often manufacturers try to distinguish their devices by using interchangeable panels of different colors. So, for example, WinWin has one removable yellow panel, initially on the gadget it is black. The first is made of porous plastic, the second is covered with a soft-touch layer. And the WinJoy Windowsphone is sold without replaceable covers, but you can buy it either in red or black (later, apparently, it will appear in white and blue). The dark one, apparently, has a soft-touch lid, while the red one is made of semi-glossy plastic.

Despite the almost identical technical characteristics, including the screen diagonal, the dimensions of smartphones are different:

Both gadgets weigh 105 grams.

I liked WinJoy better. It is more compact, fits perfectly in the hand, and is convenient to use. The WinWin device is elongated, but not due to the enlargement of the screen, but due to the enlargement of the screen frames. Therefore, in terms of design ergonomics, it loses to the younger model.

Black edging on "VinVin" is made of "soft-touch", and on "VinJoy" - from matte.

The screens of the gadgets are protected by sufficiently durable glass. For a couple of weeks I have not managed to "plant" a single scratch. There is an oleophobic coating both there and there. Fingerprints remain but are very easily erased. The finger glides well over the surface. There is also an anti-glare layer.

The yellow back cover of WinWin is relatively easily soiled; during active use, its edges are rubbed and darkened. Okay, the tracks can be cleaned gently. The lid on the WinJoy makes it harder.

Both devices are assembled on a solid five: they do not creak, do not crunch when twisted and squeezed, the backs do not bend to the batteries.

On top of the front panel are the speech speakers. The volume is equally low, I would say low. The quality is acceptable (as it seemed to me, it is better on WinWin), mostly high frequencies are heard, the intelligibility is average. They hear you a little deaf. In general, the speakers are not the best, but not the worst either. There are proximity sensors, but no light sensors. Front cameras are at opposite ends.

Under the display are standard touch buttons: "Back", "Start" and "Search". They are painted with a translucent white paint. The backlight is present; on WinWin it is slightly brighter.

The microphone for WinJoy is on the bottom end, and for WinWin it is under the button "Search". On the top end of "VinVin" there is a micro-USB connector and 3.5 mm audio output, on "VinJoy" - only 3.5 mm. The micro-USB connector of the younger model is located on the left side.

The top model has a volume rocker on the left side. It is plastic, black, relatively convex, easily felt with your fingers, soft pressing, small stroke. The volume rocker on WinJoy is on the top right, and just below the phone's power button (similarly located in WinWin).

Camera eyes and flashes are located on the back of the devices. One of the main differences between WinWin and WinJoy is that the latter has only one speaker. It is both spoken and polyphonic. WinWin has a speaker on the back at the bottom.

Another difference: the WinWin device uses slots for sim cards like miniSIM, and WinJoy uses microSIM. In my opinion, microSIM is more interesting, since now almost all modern devices use this standard.

Both gadgets are equipped with a microSD slot.

Displays

New items are equipped with screens with a diagonal of 4 inches. Physical size - 52x87. The display bezels on the right and left of WinWin and WinJoy are 6 mm each, the bezels on the top are 17 mm and 16 mm (junior model), the bezels at the bottom are 22 mm and 17 mm (junior model).

The resolution is the same - 480x800 pixels, density - 233 PPI. The matrices are not made using IPS technology, so the viewing angles are unimportant: if you tilt the screen away from you, the brightness and contrast decrease, towards yourself, the colors are sharply inverted. I think that the WinJoy screen behaves worse, since it has a slightly lower matrix backlight brightness, smaller viewing angles, increased contrast, due to which some image details are lost.

Since the devices do not have light sensors, the brightness is manually adjusted. Traditionally, there are only three "steps" for Windows Phone: low, medium, high.

The WinWin screen works up to 3 simultaneous touches, and the WinJoy screen - up to 2. The sensitivity is good.

Batteries

The WinWin smartphone has a 2000 mAh lithium-ion battery (B2000B, 7.6 Wh), and the WinJoy has a 1700 mAh lithium-polymer battery (BL4G-I, 6.46 Wh).

The devices did not "run" for long, but even after a couple of days of "use" it was clear that the batteries do not last long, especially if you use two SIM cards.

In video playback mode (MP4, 640x480 pixels) at maximum brightness and volume in the headphones, the WinWin battery sat down after about 4 hours (WinJoy - in 3 hours). If you use 3G, make about 10-15 calls lasting 1-2 minutes, take pictures for 20 minutes, then the WinWin battery will run out in 7-8 hours (WinJoy in about the same time). Toys will run WinWin battery in about 2 hours, and WinJoy battery in 1.5 hours.

The WinWin device takes 2.5 hours to charge from the mains, and the WinJoy takes just over 1.5 hours.

Communication capabilities

Everything in this section is typical for any budget Android smartphone. The devices operate in 2G (GSM / GPRS / EDGE, 850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G (900/2100 MHz) cellular networks.

If one slot works in 3G, then the other will automatically switch to 2G in both models. That is, both slots can function in 3G, but not simultaneously.

To make calls and write messages from a particular SIM card, you need to go to the appropriate sections. They are designated as pictures of handsets and messages with numbers "1" or "2".

Available Bluetooth version 4.0 for file and voice transmission. There is a wireless connection Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b / g. The device, of course, can be used as a modem.

Working with GPS and GLONASS (gpsOne IZat Gen7A model) did not raise any questions, the Qualcomm chipset functioned quite well. The satellites are determined very quickly, and the accuracy is quite good.

Memory and memory card

The devices are equipped with 512 MB of RAM. In principle, this volume is enough for budget devices, especially for Windows Phone OS. However, this is not about a lack of RAM, but about the fact that some applications and functions will not work on phones with less than 1 GB of RAM.

Both gadgets have 4 GB of Flash memory installed inside, about 1 GB of free. But there is a slot for a microSD memory card. If a card is inserted, the machine asks you if the data will be saved to it.

Cameras

Despite the low cost of WinWin and WinJoy, they are equipped with 5 MP cameras with autofocus, and there is also a "selfie" camera. In theory, the modules should be the same, but even the front cameras differ.

Highscreen WinJoy on top

The apertures of the lenses are F2.4, the WinWin viewing angle is 40 mm, the WinJoy angle is 35 mm. The last indicators are noticeable to the naked eye: the picture on WinWin is cropped a lot. In addition, the VinVin camera is notably “noisy”, the details are worse than in VinJoy frames.

The camera on WinJoy was a pleasant surprise, for 5 MP it is quite good: relatively clean frames, normal sharpness, confident and accurate focus. True, sometimes the white balance is naughty.

The front camera of WinWin has a resolution of 0.3 MP, while the WinJoy has a resolution of 1.3 MP. Most likely, interpolation, however, the quality is still better in the younger model: a larger viewing angle, more accurate exposure, better white balance.

They write video in a resolution of 865x480 pixels at 30 frames per second. There is autofocus. The WinJoy camera can focus at a distance of about 3-5 cm. The sound is cleaner on WinJoy, but quieter than WinWin.

Performance and software platform

Both smartphones operate on Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8212 chipsets - 4 cores at 1.2 GHz, 45 nm process technology, Adreno 302 is responsible for the graphics (OpenGL ES 2.0, OpenGL ES 1.1, OpenVG 1.1, EGL 1.3, Direct3D Mobile, DirectDraw). In general, something in between 8225Q and 8210.

The devices behave quite well, no glitches or "friezes" of the system were found. However, the scroll brakes are a little annoying when you hold your finger on the screen. As soon as you release it, the list scrolls smoothly. Most modern games (including Asphalt 8) run and run fine on WinWin and WinJoy. However, it is better to count on unpretentious ones, like Angry Birds.

I think that many people will immediately start comparing these gadgets with Android devices. In principle, you can. If a couple of years ago, even a year ago, for 4,000 - 5,000 rubles you could buy an extremely slow "android", now for this money you can easily find an adequate smartphone without unnecessary problems.

Multimedia

The devices are equipped with a standard music and video player, radio.

The volume of the WinJoy polyphonic speaker is average, the quality is also not particularly good, the implementation of "speaker + speakerphone" affects. If you close the hole, the decibel level will decrease by about two times.

The sound in the headphones has a high volume, the quality is not bad, but mainly mid and high frequencies are heard, there is practically no low frequencies.

The volume of the WinWin polyphonic speaker is slightly above average, the quality is more or less normal. If you close the hole, the decibel level will drop to almost zero.

The sound in the headphones is richer than in WinJoy: better bass, more pleasant mids. But the high frequencies are slightly less. But it is better this way than when playing only medium and high frequencies.

Highscreen WinWin and WinJoy devices reproduce video in resolution up to 1280x720 in low bitrate, it is better to "slip" simpler videos in 360x640 resolution or slightly higher.

Conclusion

Let me remind you once again the cost of Highscreen devices on the WP 8.1 operating system: WinWin will cost you 4,500 rubles, and WinJoy - 4,000 rubles. The call quality is not satisfactory, vibrating alerts are about the same average.

To understand which of the two gadgets is better, let's take a look at the summary table.

Despite the fact that VinVin has more positive characteristics, I would recommend buying VinJoy. It is more compact, fits better in the hand, takes photos and videos well. The rest of the comments are classified as "my personal opinion".
