Use a landline phone to make Skype for Business calls. Phones for Skype Skype phones that do not require a computer

As you know, Skype is the most famous and most frequently used program for voice communication over the Internet. Moreover, it is especially popular due to the ability to make calls from Skype to ordinary telephones located almost anywhere in the world, while paying mere pennies - 5-15 cents, depending on the region. I've already talked about how to work with Skype. In this article, we'll talk about what devices Skype is used with, because this program requires at least the presence of headphones (speakers) and a microphone. Speakers and microphone The easiest way is to use ordinary speakers (built-in speakers) and some simple microphone for conversations over the Internet. This is especially convenient in the case of laptops, which are equipped not only with built-in speakers, but also with a built-in microphone. (Sometimes also a webcam, which Skype can also use.) However, this simplest method is not the best. First of all, due to the fact that the microphone will catch the sound coming from the speakers, as a result of which a noticeable and very unpleasant echo will be observed during the conversation. (Skype has certain software tools that allow you to reduce this echo, but you cannot completely remove it.) In addition, with this mode of communication, your conversations will be heard by others, which is also not very good. Therefore, speakers and a microphone are practically not used when communicating via the Internet. Headset Much more often, together with Skype, they use the so-called headset - headphones with a microphone attached to them. In this case, no echo arises, and your conversations will not be heard by anyone but you. However, headsets are very different. The simplest and most inconvenient is one earpiece with an attached microphone and a plastic hook for attaching behind the ear.

The simplest headset

The next type is a single earpiece with an attached microphone, which is attached not to the ear, but to the head - using a plastic arch.

More sophisticated headset

It is more convenient to use this device as a headset, but it is bad to use it as a headphone. Therefore, the best option is ordinary headphones with a microphone attached to them.

Headphones with microphone

Such a headset can be successfully used both as ordinary headphones and as a headset for communication via Skype. Handsets Headsets are headsets, and it is most convenient to talk via Skype using various handsets. After all, this is actually a telephone conversation, so the handset is the most common option. For Skype, there are many different devices of this type, which are divided into three main categories:

wired tube connecting to a computer via USB; a cordless handset that works with a base that connects to a computer via USB; a cordless handset that works with a base that connects to a router.
Wired tube There are a great variety of corded tubes, and they are produced by a wide variety of manufacturers. They are connected to the computer with a wire via USB, and for the tube to work, you need to install a small program. I use the simplest Skypemate USB-P8D handset and am quite satisfied with its work.

Skypemate USB-P8D

Sometimes such handsets are produced in exotic configurations - for example, the Skypemate VM-01L handset is also a computer mouse.

Skypemate VM-01L

Cordless handset Cordless handsets are similar in principle to wired handsets, however, in this case, a special handset base is connected to a computer via USB, and the handset connects to the base wirelessly - usually WiFi. Such tubes are, of course, more expensive than wired ones, but they are more convenient - simply because you can walk a long enough distance from the computer during a conversation, that is, roughly speaking, walk around the house. There are also many different models of these tubes. And here you need to keep in mind that not all of them work well. For example, my first phone from this series - ASUS AiGuru S1 - simply amazed with its stupidity and glitchiness. Not only did he have to dance ten figures of the Marlezon Ballet to connect it, while pounding a tambourine, he also agreed to work only with some ancient version of Skype supplied with the phone itself (on other versions, the phone software simply fell out with an error - this was tested on five different computers and two operating systems), and when talking on the phone, some strange clicks and noise were heard all the time.

ASUS AiGuru S1

The General Electric GE 2-1878GE5-A phone turned out to be much more successful. It worked for more than one year, and there were no problems using it. Moreover, this device can simultaneously act as an ordinary DECT phone, although I did not need this function from it at all. However, this model also has a noticeable disadvantage - it does not understand the Cyrillic alphabet in the names of subscribers.

General Electric GE 2-1878GE5-A

Cordless handset that does not require a computer Well, and one more, completely new type of phones for Skype - devices that do not require a computer to work with Skype. The convenience of such devices is difficult to overestimate - for example, I know several people who specifically bought a simple computer for their parents living in other cities just so that they could use Skype. Now this problem has been removed! You can buy a Skype device of this type, and you won't need a computer anymore - just a simple router connected to the Internet. (The simplest single-port routers, which in this case are quite suitable, cost 800-1000 rubles.) However, here, unlike other types of pipes, there is not yet a wide variety of offers. I was able to test the Zyxel V352L EE device (which, by the way, will be on sale somewhere in January 2009), and a search on the Internet from similar models gave only Topcom [email protected] 6000, which is also difficult to find on sale in Moscow (according to "Yandex.Market" - only two offers). What is Topcom [email protected] 6000, I can't say, but I studied the Zyxel V352L EE in every detail. So, the Zyxel V352L EE is a wireless phone that supports both conventional DECT telephony and Skype, and does not require a computer to work with Skype - it only needs a router with the Internet and a free Ethernet port. The package includes: base unit with power supply, Ethernet cable, telephone cable, handset, cradle with power supply for the handset, belt clip and user manual.

Device complete set

It all starts quite simply. The base unit is connected to the network and connected with an Ethernet cable to the router. After that, you just have to enter your Skype-username and password on the handset.

Login and password input

The handset even allows you to register a new user in Skype - I checked, everything works.

User connected

Also, the handset can show funds in the account, if any. Contacts are called by a special button and are taken, of course, from the personal account of this subscriber from Skype servers.

Contacts

The device supports full work with Skype. You can add new users, rename them (though, unfortunately, you cannot enter the Cyrillic alphabet, although if you changed the name to Russian on the computer, it will be displayed normally), delete and block. The handset also accepts authorization requests and allows you to process these requests in the same way as on a computer.

Authorization request

Well, and, accordingly, other types of Skype settings are available to the user - for example, from whom to receive calls and from whom not to receive.

Security setting

I was also pleased with the fact that the device is able to show subscribers' avatars during incoming calls.

Incoming call

The range of the tube in the room is up to 50 meters. I didn't manage to move 50 meters away from the base (the ballroom is now being renovated, it's just impossible to get there), but within thirty meters the audibility was excellent. The handset itself has a headset jack - in general, this is not superfluous for cases when you need to talk long and tediously with someone. Having a DECT phone (which, incidentally, also supports pulse dialing, which is not always the case) can also be convenient. You can set priorities for certain subscribers - use a DECT call first, and if not available - then Skype. You can make the handset ask you which line to use. In general, the device, in my opinion, is more than decent and convenient. Skype support is done just fine - almost all functions are available to you without a computer, including an answering machine, conference calls, call forwarding, network status selection, and so on. By the way, the base unit supports the connection of up to four handsets, and they can make internal calls to each other. The only two small complaints that I had are related to the impossibility of entering the Cyrillic alphabet on the keyboard (in general, we are worried), and of the design of the cursor keys on the handset: the keys are made of soft plastic, they are pressed tightly, so it is simply impossible to press them with your finger - you have to press fingernail.

Arrow keys

However, the numerous advantages of the device clearly outweigh the small disadvantages. It is very, very convenient to use it, and the phone works without any glitches - I was very active in running it for a week. conclusions A headset is the simplest and most inexpensive, but somewhat inconvenient device to use with Skype. Wired handsets, as a rule, work quite reliably, and they cost 800 rubles. Be careful with cordless handsets, as they often turn out to be buggy, so you should only buy proven models. However, there are dozens of proven options. The cost of cordless handsets is about 2000-3000 rubles. Cordless handsets that do not require a computer are still on the market. They are the most convenient, but you have to pay for convenience - the cost is that of the Zyxel V352L EE, that of Topcom [email protected] 6000 declared in the region of 5000 rubles. But in my opinion, it's worth it.

Cordless Skype phones without a computer connection

In addition to Wi-Fi devices for Skype telephony, there is also a cordless phone (cordless phones). They connect directly to the telephone network and do not require a computer to operate, which is their main advantage. An example of a Skype phone of this type is the Dualphone 3088 (Fig. 2.11).

Figure: 2.11.Skype phone Dualphone 3088

The Dualphone 3088 is a wireless Skype phone that does not require a computer connection and provides communication up to 300 meters from the base. You just need to connect the Dualphone station to the broadband Internet, and you will have a great opportunity to talk with friends via Skype for free.
