Why does the right mouse button menu take a long time to open? What is the context menu how to call it

The menu is the most important element of the graphical user interface with which you can select the desired program option.

Types of menus in the computer:

  • by execution - text and graphic
  • by function - main application menu, pop-up, context and system menus

What is the context menu how to call it

A context menu is a separate type of menu on a computer; list of available commands for working with this file.

Where is the context menu?

It is stored in the Windows registry, which consists of two sections. Some of the programs are stored in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \\ * \\ shell section, the other in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \\ * \\ shellex \\ ContextMenuHandlers section.

How does the context menu open?

Exist different ways how to call context menu

  1. At the bottom of the keyboard, between the "ALT" key and the "CTRL" key, there is a special button. It shows the additional functions and actions available for of this file... It usually contains a sign and a mouse pointer. This button calls the context menu.

It is used if it is necessary to highlight the shortcuts of the necessary files, as well as inside programs that are already running. When you press this button, the context menu is called in accordance with the current situation.

Right mouse button on the keyboard is also successfully replaced by this button.

This method is for those who prefer to use the keyboard, while the context menu can also be opened with the mouse.

  1. Hovering the mouse over the required file, select it by clicking the left button. Right-clicking on the selected area will open a context menu. When several items are selected, the context menu will display the actions available for the selected group of files.
  1. How to open the context menu when working on a laptop or netbook? On these devices, the mouse function is transferred to the built-in touchpad. The context menu is invoked by right-clicking on the selected area.

How to customize the right-click context menu

For the right mouse button, the context menu will be configured using the simple Context Menu Tuner program. She will tell you how to set up the context windows menu 7.

Let's see how to customize the right mouse button.

  1. Download and run the program
  1. The program interface is made up of two different panels: the left one contains a list of commands supported by the program, the right one includes the OS conductor areas. We set the Russian language in the settings
  1. Add a command. To do this, select it on the left side and "connect" it to the preferred element on the right. Click "Add".

Other commands are added similarly.

(how to solve the problem with "brakes" when calling the menu).

Hello dear friends!

Among the ocean of system glitches, there is this one: you right-click on a file and you have to wait a very long time, while the system will give you access to the context menu.

It all lies in the fact that problem with quick call of the context menu - this is nothing more than the freaks of the context menu itself. What happens when you call? As soon as you right-click on the icon, the system immediately starts digging into itself, looking for a program to which, allegedly, there is no link.

If there is a flaw in the system (and it is even in the most configured system - believe me), then the search can take a very long time until the system finally opens you access to the menu (or it may not - anything can happen). In general, in this "vinaigrette" you can "swim" for a very long time, but why ?!

There are two main options for solving the problem, which you will now learn about.

Option one. Follow the algorithm for entering the "Registry Editor": "Start" - "Run" - in the "Open" field, enter the command regedit and click "OK". You have entered the "Registry Editor". Now follow this thread:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \\ * \\ shellex \\ ContextMenuHandlers.

When you reach the desired section "ContextMenuHandlers" - expand it by clicking on the small "plus" behind it. In the open window, carefully look for programs that you uninstalled recently. If there are any, then delete them! To make it a little clearer - an example: let's say three days ago you uninstalled the Auslogics program. If you deleted it, then the entry in the registry could remain. These are exactly such records - from remote programs - and are those "brakes" that do not give instant access the context menu... Therefore, if there are entries about programs that have already been removed, then immediately remove them from the registry (section "ContextMenuHandlers"). After that click "Ok" and close the "Registry Editor".

If this option did not help much, then move on to the second option.

Option two. Enter the "Registry Editor" again. Select the branch HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \\ Applications. Warning: the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT branch has two sections "application" and Applications. You need the Applications section - the section label with a capital letter, not a small letter!

In general, having reached the "Applications" section, open it by clicking on the "plus sign". After opening the section, you can see many subsections, with names like "cag.exe" and so on (in general, they will be located below the "Applications" section). Now start clicking on the lines with the left mouse button. If the section opens, then left-click on "command" and look for the "default" parameter in the right window that opens. And if you see any link to the missing file (resource, program) here, then feel free to delete the entire section!
That's the whole solution. Good luck!

Why doesn't the context menu of photo files open?

When you press right button The context menu does not open with the mouse on files with photos, and the folder is "ejected" from the folder to the desktop, while the folder with photos is closed. operating system windows 10 is installed right on the laptop. Other files have music, video, etc. everything is fine. Help bring back functionality.

Where do you start? Decide ... Usually there are 2 options. The first option is to do it all yourself. Before that, find the instructions: paper, or on the Internet, or from the manufacturer (laptop seller). Those. information on what and how to do.
Or look for a specialist person in your place who will do all this for you. Pay him for the job. Here are all the options.

By the way, I forgot to say last time ... In Windows-ten it is possible to reset the system to the initial factory level without installing the system from scratch. Perhaps this option will suit you better. In Windows 10 you can do full reset (returning system settings to their original state) to a bare system or saving user files. In this case, you do not have to produce windows installation from scratch, you just need to reset directly from installed system... You can start the reset process as follows: "Computer settings -\u003e Update and security -\u003e Recovery -\u003e Reset the computer to its original state" and click the "Start" button.
Here is an article: http://compconfig.ru/winset/sbros-windows-10.html

Before such operations, you need to understand that there can be 2 options for the development of events: everything will go well and you will forget about the problem (most often it happens). But problems may arise (less often, but it happens) and then the help of a specialist on the spot will be required. Before such global changes to the system, I usually create an image of the current version of the system. Just in case :) I advise you to do the same.

Hello Nikolay! I'm not very good at restoring from a backup image, but it definitely should be, in any case, the laptop came with a pre-installed Win 10 OS. I don't want to spoil something, the cost is not small. Where to start and what are the risks. The problem with the photo context menu is starting to get a little annoying ...

Got it ... Try these options:

1. There are fixes (repair programs) on the Microsoft website. They are called Microsoft Fix it. The idea is this: run a program on your computer and it looks for problems and fixes them. Read here: https://support.microsoft.com/ru-ru/kb/2970908
I myself have used them several times. Sometimes it helped, sometimes it didn't.

2. If you have a Windows installation disk (flash drive), you can try to update the system, ie. reinstall it over the current system (without deleting data). In this case, damaged (or missing) system files on your system should be replaced with the actual ones.
However, a clean installation from scratch is much safer. Then you are guaranteed to have a clean, healthy system.

In both scenarios, this procedure will require license key (usually pasted as a sticker on a laptop). And then, if you suddenly fail to activate the system automatically via the Internet, you will have to activate it by phone.

Important: before reinstalling the system, copy the data you need (files, photos, etc.) to another location, make backup... You can copy to a separate other media or to the cloud (on the Internet).

By the way, if you have a laptop, then everything can be even simpler: a backup image of the system can be stored on the hard drive of the laptop (in a hidden partition). And the laptop should have instructions on how to reset the system to the original factory settings. This is the case in all decent laptops. Read the information (instructions) for your laptop.

I would, Nikolai, take advantage of this with pleasure, I know what this is about. But the laptop was bought a month ago, and in Windows 10, the restore function is disabled by default. Now I turned it on, but alas, there are no previous points ...

Nikolay | November 29, 2016 1:55 am
It makes no sense to figure out why it doesn't work. The functionality can be easily reverted by rolling the system back to the previous restore point when everything was working. If you hear about restore points for the first time, read on this topic (there is enough information on the net).
