I have already confirmed my mounting option and now I would like to try to figure out which material is better to use in filters. During the preparation before writing this article, I became aware of different options for filter materials. Some of the most popular ones are tights and piece chiffon. Another, often used material is synthetic winterizer, but its testing is beyond the scope of this review, because in this case we can see materials that can first be combined with magnetic vinyl, and with synthetic winterizer this type of fastening is even more foldable in implementation.

First, I would like to clarify the supply: how much filters can change the air flow and how it varies on the temperature of the refrigerated components. For this purpose, it was decided to specially purchase a case with a “middle-of-the-road” form factor. This miracle of Chinese engineering is not disturbed by anything noticeable except the seating area for the 120 mm fan at the back station.

It houses a Scythe GentleTyphoon fan (D1225C12B5AP-15). Its maximum wrap speed is 1850 rpm, which pumps 57.68 CFM (cubic feet per coil). The middle of the body is covered with masking tape to close all ventilation openings and turn off the possible influx of additional wind flows into the result.

In the middle, directly opposite the fan, I placed a hard drive, and on this adhesive board behind an additional insulating strip a thermocouple from the Lamptron FC5V2 fan controller. The “Winchester” was running without any fuss, and the testing method itself was reduced to an advanced level: the computer was turned on with a filter applied to the fan, then the maximum temperature was fixed, after which the system unit froze for 30-40 minutes, allowing the hard drive to cool down, trying out a new filter . Once the skin is warmed up to the maximum temperature, it takes approximately 20 minutes. And now let’s look at the objects of the re-verification themselves.

Three types of filters were selected for it: from piece chiffon, from black nylon tights, 40 denier, and a factory-made Lamptron UV Sensitive Fan filter.

The Lamptron extraction filter is a metal mesh on a plastic frame, with a center size of approximately 1 mm. The kit includes a set of bolts for fastening.

You can buy it in Moscow, so, in my opinion, it will be a good butt for comparing with self-made options. I am practically convinced from the very beginning that the skin from the filters should have a slight negative impact on the air flow, since they are prepared with a lot of medicinal materials, which for their main reasons are not responsible for respecting the passage through the air, which was confirmed by testing. For ease of reference, the results are shown in the following diagrams:

To equalize, I checked the temperature of the hard drive in full air mode, in a completely closed system unit.

As you can note, among the tested filters the Lamptron product is the least likely to interfere with the wind flow, but it is not surprising that the size of the filters in the mesh is much larger than the size of chiffon or tights. Filters from tights showed the highest temperature difference, but the difference was only 0.4 degrees Celsius, which is comparable to the mode without filters, which, in my opinion, is not at all critical.

Well, on the one hand, the verification on the simulator is good, but on the other hand, it is far from reality in any world. Therefore, the role of the under-the-table rabbit is to try on the main system unit in the booth.

Testing technique

Air circulation in the case is ensured by two Noiseblocker Multiframe S-Series MF12-S2 fans - three on the CBO radiator and one front one. I turned on the fans on the radiator, and put a filter on the front fan and fixed the maximum temperature of the processor and video card. The idea was to show how the installation of filter filters appears on a real system unit.

Test results

But the result once again appeared strange. When installing any of the saw filters, the temperature changed according to the schedule. It used to be that after their removal they moved forward, which is completely illogical. A number of reasons have been found for this:

  • There is a lot of attention to the components of the computer (even though I didn’t clean the PC at the same time, but, for example, the antivirus might update, after which the temperature of the processor immediately increased by a degree).
  • The influx of external wind currents that penetrate into the housing through non-ventilating openings, it is impossible to transfer their influx.

Having suffered through the tests for two evenings, I believed that the result was the same. The processor temperatures were constantly in the region of 60-61 degrees, and the video card was heated to 48-49 degrees with any filters. This makes it possible to create a new solution, so that by pouring filters with a thin filter cloth, it will be necessary to minimize the amount of water poured into the air flow, so that you can safely avoid losing your respect.

Another important parameter of saw filters is the moisture protection from the saw. Therefore, I tried to understand which of the presented materials is best suited for whom.

Alas, there was an ambush waiting for me here. On the right is that there is no testing of saw filters for a computer! Only industrial and automotive options, and in any case, the lack of tools and techniques were beyond my reach. You cannot simply hang a filter on a working system unit; however, it is impossible to save everyone’s minds throughout the testing.

The decision came uncontrollably: it’s as good as a saw simulator! I immediately stocked up on a bag of first-grade beard and prosiyuvac. So, since it was necessary to check the filter in the sinks as close as possible to the combat ones, it was decided to use the same descriptions of the larger body.

No luck! If the housing is in the normal position, the pressure of the fan does not rise, so that it can blow easily. I placed it on the back and in even small portions it was good, but after a short period of an hour it simply clogged all the openings of the filter and no longer went through the middle of the body. It was necessary to either shake the filter or rub it thoroughly with your fingers. In such a situation, only one thing was clear: what kind of material fits best in a sieve, rather than a saw filter. In the middle, there was no clear splash of flour; it settled in an even ball throughout the entire body, and getting it out of all the mounds and crevices was a great problem. This is a failure.

I know I’m worried about how I can overcome everything. Having thought that the wind flow was affected by the perforation on the side panel, it was decided to use another test stand, without a housing, but with a fan. The marker now contained black oxamite fabric, which was included with the Seasonic life block.

The testing methodology has made some changes. Now I put a tablespoon of beard on the filter as evenly as possible, and then turned on the fan for exactly 10 minutes. And after taking the photo, the flame came out.

Only then did I get adequate results that I could have been victorious about.

The first test was applied to the filter with piece chiffon.

Another one on the list is a filter made from nylon tights, thickness 40 den.

The result, when combined with chiffon, is slightly separated, but still noticeable. I'll be amazed at how you show yourself a filter with a metal mesh made by Lamptron.

The change in the result is immediately visible from the readings of the front filters - strong traces of flour as the fan blades wrap around. It is necessary to say that it was problematic to create a smooth ball with this filter - it would just immediately begin to fall down.

Based on all these results, you can create a system that gives the filter from the pantyhose the greatest protection from the saw, and at the same time this material most strongly changes the air flow, which directly affects the temperature of the components in the middle of the system block.

Another reliable option is a filter made from piece chiffon - this is the middle ground, the golden middle: it lets the wind through better, but at the same time penetrates and drank through it.

And the best results were shown by the Lamptron filter, which is not surprising - the metal mesh is suitable for collecting only large particles of sawdust onto the lint of fabrics or hair of domestic animals.

And now the time has come to bring your bags. In this material, a universal method of fastening saw filters was examined, which can be used with a large number of housings. In addition, based on the results of the testing, I tried to determine which material is best suited for cutting in a saw blade.

In my opinion, many readers will benefit from a lesson about the ability to prepare self-propelled filters. Scraps of various office supplies can be found at the local store, then the biggest investment will be the purchase of magnetic vinyl. A square meter of vinyl, 1.5 mm thick, sold in Moscow for approximately 500 rubles. Grind this sheet to create a number of filter options for all ventilation openings in the computer case, so that the price can be called reasonable. The price tag on the bag may also include the need to add filter material, otherwise everything may still be left behind due to the special effects of the skin. By the way, a Lamptron filter costs no more than 100 rubles in Moscow.

Self-propelled filters have a number of obvious advantages:
  • Universality of fastening for various models of housings;
  • The security of the best one is taken away from the saw;

The real downside is that there may be problems with purchasing a sheet of magnetic vinyl of small size.

The body is packaged in a box with clear and enticing photographs of yourself. It would be bad for a lot of manufacturers to get used to the Thermaltake company's self-promotion - it's hard to get past the pretentious packaging. The overall dimensions of the box are all large (300x590x540 mm), with handles on both ends. The gross volume is now approaching ten kilograms.

In view of its counterpart with playful straightness, this body is wrapped not in a plastic bag, but in a synthetic porous fabric.

Lots of instructions (for the Russian language there are also a couple of pages), information about warranty washes and a set of necessary screws / screeds are absolutely identical to those of the A41. Stands for the motherboard were installed by the distributor, and one of them, together with the screwing tool, lay in the middle of the other fastening.

The design of the Viishov body is as compatible as possible. In addition to two powerful USB 3.0 devices, nothing deviates from the original concept.

The all-aluminum, curved front panel looks beautiful and delivers tactile satisfaction to the skin every time you handle it to open it. This effect is achieved not only due to the texture and the acceptable coldness of aircraft metal. The presence of four magnets that create the support of the opening can also make its contribution. For greater effect, the magnets were moved in pairs in the doors themselves and on the inside of the unbreakable part of the front panel. To avoid unpleasant squeaking when closed, remove the soft inserts. If “access to the body” is evident, do not forget to change the orientation of one of the pairs of magnets before the onset of the first quarter - assess the body’s elasticity.

Vikoristannaya metal (like something as light as aluminum) broke the massive door - the lining weighs 750 grams! Thanks to the efforts of Thermaltake designers, there is one less supercooler in the world. To prepare the part, three-millimeter metal is used, and the stiffening ribs are made according to the entire millimeter of the material. In this case, it’s entirely a waste of time: the door won’t open and will remain in the position you have chosen. It’s amazing that between the plastic and the front panel there was something soundproofing between the plastic and the front panel, it certainly couldn’t have gotten any worse.

All the interface ports were spread out from the front above the doors... that’s all - let’s talk about docking stations for SATA drives. So, in our order there are a pair of USB ports of the third and other versions, as well as standard 3.5 mm jacks for headphones and a microphone. By the way, everything is like most buildings in this price category.

The storage tray was sacrificed to the gods of interfaces, and the ability to connect 2.5/3.5-inch drives was removed. Naturally, through, and not immediately.

Like the Thermaltake A41, the front panel does not contain electronic components, and there are no wires. Installation and dismantling must be done smoothly and manually. Then go to the coarse-mesh filter, which closes the two-hundred-millimeter low-speed fan.

Yes, yes, a fan with switches. Behind solid aluminum doors. In the case, the whole nature of this is ordered by the need to eliminate sounds from components at a low level, so that a priori it works in a closed view. Unification of production?


The walls are solid sheets of metal. Once upon a time, engineers traded ventilation for the ability to muffle sounds coming from above the system unit. Calling - absolutely nothing noticeable. The right wall is not visible beyond the dimensions of the chassis, so it will be important to determine how much cable routing can be done.

The back side of the case is the same as the A41 model, accurate to the millimeter. So it’s similar there - a copy. Living block below. The fastening that allows you to expand in two ways, obviously.

These expansion slots and special plugs easily provide space for installing additional cards. A 120-mm fan was installed above them, and even a little more - there were still three openings for the CBO hoses. First of all, it is significant that for the Soprano a water cooling system with a radiator would be the best option for the body.

The bottom of the body is covered two-thirds of the way with a filter. Great sauerkrauts should not be mixed with saws, but the whole mixture will ensure protection from the wool of animals.

The lightweight plastic legs of the A41 have been replaced by thinner supports in Hi-Fi style. Not that this case can be called suitable for HTPC, but in the context of Hi-Fi technology, obviously, it will not be a black sheep.

The upper side of the body is made from solid metal material, which ensures rigidity when handling animals. It would still not be recommended to stand on the body in order to reach anything from the frame, but you can sit on the axis absolutely without fear: having chosen a millimeter of free movement, the cover will lie on the frame and will not be destroyed anywhere else. In principle, it’s obvious that the millimeter-sized SECC steel is being used, and not just any foil.

⇡ Internal device

We've cracked the hull... Deja vu! Without further ado, the Thermaltake Chaser A41 stands before us. So it’s all completely out of the blue. On the right here is a good overview of the buildings. Soprano was announced much earlier, lower than A41, but before us in the laboratory, having entered the laboratory later, becoming, thus, a different number.

The same tray for the motherboard, which is great, allows you to gain access to the back of the processor socket. The right hand side of the motherboard has all the same three doors closed with rubber curtains for cable management. And yet again, to see off the block of life, there was nowhere to go.


And the axis of the width of the body has been changed: the stamped bottom has been replaced by a printed foam soundproofing panel, oriented in the middle.

As you can see in the group photo, the size of the backed ball is not the same. On the side of the koristuvach (lefties, don’t worry, there are more of us) the sound of a whole centimeter of material on his way. On the right, the ball is much thinner.

Several five-inch accumulators can be installed without any tools.

Fixation is carried out only from one side using plastic inserts. Perfectionists can pick up a screwdriver and add screw fastening on the right side, fortunately there are more of them included in the package. Here you can see a good place behind the main stand of accumulators, which is transferred to vice-versa for cable management.

Regardless of the application on the box, the 2.5 and 3.5 inch units cannot be fixed without twisting. Devices that are located in a transversely straightened column must be screwed to the plastic fittings in front.

After this, you can place the accumulators without tools - push them in until they click. The discs are screwed through soft anti-vibration gaskets using special screws with a large head.

Another two- to three-inch device is also fastened to the front, and the installation of the A41 has now become a little more complicated: now it is not only necessary to remove the front panel of the case, but also to unscrew the fan, which blocks access to the position.

Like last time, we placed an SSD here so that there would be no problems with connecting an additional video card.

The remaining 3.5-inch drive can be placed at the top position, which extends under the 5.25-inch drives. Here you won’t be able to stagnate, and you won’t be able to secure accumulators of a smaller size. Before speaking, there is a three-inch volume of available calls: there is no way to interfere with the installation of a memory card reader or other (less) accessory.

The docking station is a plastic “glass” (for clarity, our violin assistant trims dry curtains). On the very day, a different board is screwed in place, so as not to displace any logical elements, so that the version of the interface is maintained until you connect the cable.

The hardware and data pads are simply connected to the contacts leading out into the middle of the SATA and molex housing. It is not entirely clear why the manufacturer chose the same old type of connector for food - owners of modular living units will be hesitant to connect the additional “tail”. From yakbi in the case there will be more and reobas (to speech, well, why is it missing?), A similar shortcoming would be less significant.

The fan, which only requires the installation of one of the disks, will generate excess dust for the next hour. With the help of a large sweep of shovels, it blows all the disks, making them more comfortable for using the washbasin.

When the saw body is penetrated, a small plastic filter in the front panel, located opposite the fan, is stolen. Another filter covers the bottom of the body, which we already installed. The 5.25 and 3.5-inch plugs are made of plastic and are leak-proof. Nothing soundproofing was found in their design.

For New Soprano, it is announced that there will be an increase in cards up to 315 mm in height and colors up to 175 mm in height. If everything is clear from the first considerations, then another small clarification is required: to install such a cooler, you will have to slightly wash out the soundproofing pad. The fluid is very small, but without pressing the barrel wall it is not possible to install grooves in the hole, which can cause a small amount of peroxide to leak out. There is enough space above the motherboard, the problem is that any of the processor coolers can fit in, but not to blame.

The living block has been demolished from below. It is installed on a stamped metal stand, which is also atypical for “quiet” cases - it would be possible to create vibration-isolating inserts.

The chassis allows you to place the power supply up to 180 mm deep, without covering the seat for a 120 mm fan. While there is no need for the rest, it is possible to occupy the entire available space of the hard drive rack, so that models up to 315 mm can be installed side by side (as with a video card, without having to manage the wiring). In order to preserve the flexibility of laying the wires, the maximum thickness of the block can be equal to 24 centimeters.

To organize wind flows in the case, a place was found for two fans. Then a place was found for three, but out of the box there are still two of them.


Front 200mm fan

The ThunderBlade version has apparently spent a third of its landing height (now two centimeters) for air intake. It does not allow the PC components to work, illuminating them with a soft, dark light.


Rear 120mm fan

The rear fan with an unusual blade shape is included in the TurboFan series. In contrast to its big brother, it is screwed through anti-vibration gaskets. The wind turbines are very quiet: according to the generator, the maximum noise level is only 13 and 16 dB for large and small ones.

The preparation and processing of the internal surfaces was carried out clearly, and there is no need to worry about anything.

Having spent (along with the same Chaser A41) a little internal width, the body still lacks even more space.

The wires can be easily routed from behind, but the absence of stamped extensions in the core makes it more important to think through the location of the retina of these connections. To provide additional food to the processor above the motherboard, open the pan in the vicinity. In addition, the cable can be laid on the side of the components, vikorist and technological devices.

The case supports the installation of internal water cooling systems, but only single-section models that are mounted on the rear fan or housed in 5.25-inch frames (for example, Thermaltake Bigwater 760) can be installed. Proteus, in view of the practicality of the sound-insulating body, we would recommend choosing the SVO from the current radiator layout: it’s hot in the middle.

Hard disks were screwed through soft gaskets. Since the body has sufficient hardness, and if we glue a foamy sound absorber to the walls, we basically cannot hear rattling sounds and vibrations from the accumulators are not felt. The lower parts show some play during installation, while the others fit in more tightly.

The natural flexibility of the test video card again betrayed it in the form of starvation - only with a slight distortion of the hand board, the fractions of additional food were located between the accumulators of the upper tier.

⇡ Testing method

To create a low-power situation in a real vicoristic case of constant demand for component data, a set of programs was launched simultaneously:

  • OCCT 4.3.2;
  • Furmark 1.10.3;
  • HD speed 1.7.5.

Temperature monitoring is performed using the SpeedFan 4.47 utility. HD speed processes are given high priority. The system SSD does not take part in benchmarking and temperature control. OCCT vicorized all twelve computational flows. The processor frequency is increased to 4 GHz (160x25) at a voltage of 1.25 V. The smoothness of the GlacialTech Igloo H58 is reduced to 100% PWM (~ 1500 rpm).

The result, displayed on the graphs, is either the maximum temperature (GPU), the maximum temperature of one of the cores (CPU), or the temperature, in which case the readings were not changed (HDD).

Hard drive temperatures are displayed around the graphics. The vertical order of the disks is similar to the actual location in the housing, so it is possible to make a determination about the cooling efficiency of a specific disk in a specific location. These graphs show only the maximum temperature, since the HD Speed ​​robot does not slow down during breaks between tests. Temperatures of idle and operation are designated as maximum and minimum. The skin test includes 30 sessions of continuous heating and at least 10 sessions of cooling components.

The minimum temperature values ​​should not be assessed as absolutely precisely. For example, the processor’s life-saving system (designated as VRM), without additional cooling, changes its temperature quite significantly. The video card in a tightly closed case is still in no hurry to catch up. For the processor, the temperature of the hottest core was taken, which also gives a difference of a few degrees.

Radeon HD 5850 heated up using FurMark 1.10.3 with the Xtreme Burn-in option activated. The speed of the cooling system was fixed at 50% of the maximum (~ 3000 rpm).

Just yesterday I carried out a global cleaning of the system unit. Having bought a bottle with tight air and disassembled the entire SB (system unit), becoming a saw, at the same time replacing the thermal interface on the processor. Like the “accordion”, as I wrote about earlier, my video card is always kept clean due to the presence of a filter mesh in the middle of the air duct. Just yesterday I came up with the idea of ​​closing the access for the saw. Naturally, you want to buy a filter for the cooler and stop there.

Today, while working with the mesh, I remembered about yesterday and left the excess on the filters for the fans.

Well, I’ll briefly explain the principle of preparation.

Beremo arkush paper. In addition to the painting album, there are a few small A4 sheets for office equipment to allow the new filter to be more harsh.

Next we draw squares. One filter requires 2 of these. The dimensions of the squares should lie in front of the fan. Since our size is 80x80, then the paper square should be 90x90 in size. Then, depending on the size of the paper, we install a mosquito net (I bought it in the store for 50 rubles per 1 meter). And we cut off small bundles of paper so that the paper halves can be glued together well. We wet the skin leaf, place mesh between them and glue it together. The crumbs are processed and dried. It’s all important to go through successfully, as long as you didn’t skip work on the application in the kindergarten. If the structure is dry, then place a fan on the filter and mark the opening area for the bolts, and then tighten them.

For fans of other sizes, the manufacturing principle is similar, except for changing sizes. The main algorithm has already been published.

Then you can prepare the paper in any color or in the color of your computer case. Filters can now be installed either between the valve and the housing, or behind the housing and behind the fan.
