Good day to all!

Since you are on this page, most likely you are having some problems setting up your D-Link home router. For those who did not know or have forgotten the factory password for the "admin panel" of the D-Link router, model DIR-300, we inform you:

leave the "password" field blank. There is no default password there!

Such is the interesting feature of this model. For the curious, we will conduct a short course on resetting the DIR-300 to factory settings and gaining administrative access for further configuration.

How to set up a routerD-Link, you will learn in the following video instruction:

Hard reset to factory settings

So, something went wrong with your router. Otherwise, why do you need access to the administration panel? In this case, one of the ways to restore performance after any failure or the previous "curved" router tuner is to perform a hard reset, and then configure everything correctly and as it should be. To do this, take the recovery tool and hold it (for 10-15 seconds) the Reset button, usually recessed into the case near the corresponding inscription.

Recovery tool is a comic name, common in narrow circles of specialists, and means a thin pin, hairpin and just any piece of stiff wire that allows you to press buttons in hard-to-reach places of the case.

Access to the admin panel

After 15 seconds, release the button and wait for the initial loading of the device. Next, we connect any of the four LAN ports to the computer, and connect the cable from the provider to the WAN port. On the computer, launch any browser convenient for you and type the address 192.168.0.1 in the command line.

If everything is done correctly, the page of the router's administrative panel will load in the browser window. Enter admin in the "login" field, leave the "password" field blank and press Enter. As mentioned earlier, there is no default password in DIR-300. Therefore, you should be able to log in successfully if you performed a hard reset correctly before.

There is usually a sticker on the bottom of the router withip-address of the administrative panel and a pair of "login / password" for access.

After successfully logging into the administrative panel, the first step is to set your password on the D-Link DIR-300 router, because not only you know about the standard (read - "blank") password on D-Link routers.

Next, the connection to the provider is configured and the Wi-Fi password is set. Usually, these procedures are sufficient for safe use of the DIR-300 and its updated NRU version. Everything else refers to the "fine-tuning" of this equipment.

Finally, the personal opinion of the author of the article. In the settings, be sure to disable the Wi-Fi authorization procedure using the WPS code. The authentication mechanism, although convenient, is very leaky. For those who care about the security of their home network, it is better not to use it.

More and more gaining popularity. And this is not surprising, because this is a very convenient way to connect to the Internet and link various devices, because no need for wires.

But, using a Wi-Fi network, do not forget about its safety. If you still do not have a password for Wi-Fi or it is too simple, perhaps a neighbor's child has long hacked your network and uses the free internet for pleasure.

Of course, you may be a very kind person and you do not feel sorry for anything for your dear neighbors, but then you should not complain that your favorite sites have begun to load poorly.

If you do decide to secure your network, let's figure out how to put a password on Wi-Fi.

Where is the Wi-Fi password set?

A router (router) is the most common device when using Wi-Fi technology, so we will consider how to set a password on this particular device.

Now there are many router manufacturers on the market (D-Link, TP-Link, Zyxel, Asus, etc.) and even more different models of these devices. Therefore, within the framework of this article, we will not consider setting a password for all these models, but we will analyze this procedure using the example of one of the popular D-Link DIR-300 routers.

Most modern wireless routers can be configured using an Internet browser. This can be done on a computer, laptop, tablet, or any other device that is wired or wirelessly connected to the router.

It is advisable to perform this procedure on a device that is connected to the router via cable. The fact is that if you are connected via Wi-Fi, when you change the password, it will disconnect from the network and you will have to re-enter the settings.

In order to open the settings we need, you need to enter the device's IP address in the browser's address bar. Most manufacturers use standard IP addresses, but some may have their own specific address.

The most common router IP addresses are:

  • 192.168.0.1
  • 192.168.1.1
  • 192.168.2.1
  • 10.0.0.1
  • 10.0.1.1

If one of these addresses does not suit you, then you can find it in several ways:

  1. Look at the case of the router. Typically, manufacturers write the IP address of the router interface on a sticker on the bottom of the device.
  2. Examine the instruction manual or CD that came with the kit.
  3. Search the Internet for information on your router model.

It is possible that you have a non-standard IP address. In this case, you need to find out this address from the person who set up the router for you or reset the device to factory settings.

Entering the router settings

After you have determined which IP address is suitable for your device, enter it in the address bar of your browser.

If the connection to the router was successful, a window for entering the username and password should appear.

For most routers, the default username and password are "admin". D-Link DIR-300 is no exception. Therefore, you need to enter this word in both fields and click the "Login" link.

If after these steps you did not manage to enter the device settings, then either your router has different login data, or these data have been changed.

If you do not know the name and password to enter the device, then there are 2 options:

  1. As in the case of the IP-address - look at the case, read the instructions, search the Internet.
  2. If the first point does not help, then you need to reset the router to standard settings using a special button on the device.

Setting Wi-Fi password

Once you have entered the router interface, find the Security Settings item in the Advanced Settings section. In the settings of other models of routers, the menu will look different, but similar items can be easily found by the keywords wi-fi and security.

On the Security Settings page, you need to set the value of the following items:

  • Network authentication
  • Encryption key PSK
  • WPA encryption

In the "Network authentication" field, you need to choose which authentication technology will be used to protect your wi-fi network. WPA2 is currently the most secure authentication method for a wireless network. Therefore, it is recommended to choose this particular item for reliable protection of your wifi.

You must not be negligent in choosing a password. The password should be complex enough, consist of letters in different registers and numbers. It is desirable that it was some kind of meaningless set, and not specific words. This combination is harder to crack and you don't have to memorize it. Write it down somewhere and use it when connecting new devices to your wireless network.

The next step is to configure WPA encryption. To do this, in the "WPA-encryption" field, you need to select an encryption algorithm. It is recommended to choose AES as it is one of the most reliable.

After entering all the parameters, click the "Change" button to save the settings. Most routers require a reboot after changing parameters. Therefore, most likely, a network disconnection will occur and you will have to re-enter the password.

Checking Wi-Fi operation

After restarting the router, you will need to reconnect to the network on all devices and enter a new password.

If an error occurs when connecting, then, most likely, the old parameters for connecting to wifi are saved on your device. To fix this problem, you need to remove your network from the list of connections and re-search for access points. After your network reappears in the list, connect to it and enter a new password.

The D-Link DIR 300 router is one of the most popular in Russia and Ukraine. However, not everyone knows how to set up a Wi-Fi password on a router. DIR 300. How to set a passwordon this device, we will explain in this article.

Initially, it is better to check whether the router is configured at all and whether it distributes the Internet. If everything is in order, you can start setting the password.

DIR 300 router: how to set a password?

To do this, immediately launch the browser that you usually use and go to the address bar. We register 192.168.0.1 in it - this is the address of your router. If after writing this combination of numbers and pressing Enter, the transition to the login and password page did not happen, try to register 192.168.1.1.

In order to set a password for the DIR 300, you need to select the picture with the inscription "Configure manually", in the window that opens, select the WiFi tab, and then "Security settings". Here we fill in the settings:

  1. Network Authentication - WPA2-PSK.
  2. The encryption key PSK is our password. You must come up with a password that is strong enough to protect your network from hacking. Whenever possible, it should include Latin letters, numbers, upper and lower case letters.
  3. WPA encryption settings - leave as they are set by default.

The next time you connect your computer or laptop to the Internet, you need to delete the old access point in the Network Control Center (Control Panel) and create a new one with a password.

Setting a password on a DIR 300 router of newer versions practically does not differ from installing on older versions, so there will be no difficulties.

Configuring the DIR-300 / NRU / B7 router

Connecting Wi-Fi router D-Link DIR-300 NRU rev. B7

The newly purchased and unpacked router is connected as follows: the provider's cable (in our case, Medialan) is connected to the yellow port on the back of the router, signed by the Internet. We plug the supplied blue cable with one end into any of the four remaining slots of the router, with the other into the connector of the network card of your computer. We connect power to the router and wait for it to boot up, and the computer will determine the parameters of a new network connection (do not be surprised that it is “limited”, as it is necessary).

Note: when configuring the router, do not use the Medialan connection on your computer to access the Internet. It should be disabled. Subsequently, after configuring the router, it is also no longer needed - the connection will be established by the router itself.

It will also not be superfluous to make sure that the parameters are set in the parameters of the local network connection for the IPV4 protocol: get the IP address and addresses of DNS servers automatically. To do this, in Windows 7, click on the connection icon at the bottom right, select "Network and Sharing Center", then change adapter settings, right-click on "Local Area Connection - properties, and make sure that there are no or static addresses. In Windows XP, the same properties can be viewed in Control Panel - Network Connections. It seems that the main reasons why something might not work, I took into account. Let's go further.

Setting up a connection in DIR-300 rev. B7

The first step to configure PPOE (this protocol is used by Medialan) on D-Link DIR-300 is to launch your favorite Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari on Mac OS X, etc.) and go to the address 192.168.0.1 (enter this address into the address bar of the browser and press enter). As a result, we should see a request for a username and password to enter the admin panel of the DIR-300 B7 router.

Login and password for DIR-300 rev. B7 The standard login is admin, the password is the same. If for some reason they do not fit, then perhaps you or someone else changed them. In this case, you can reset the router to factory settings. To do this, press and hold something thin (I use a toothpick) for 5 seconds the RESET button on the back of the router. Then repeat the first step.
After entering the username and password, we will get to the settings menu of the D-Link DIR-300 rev router. B7

D-Link DIR-300 rev. B7 - administration panel
Here we need to select "Advanced settings", after which you will see a page that will display your Wi-Fi router model, firmware version and other information.
In the top menu, select "Network" and get to the list of WAN connections.

In the image above, there is one WAN connection in this list. Click on the WAN connection, you should have the following settings: connection type (Dynamic IP), you also need to check the box - Obtain DNS server address automatically. The Mac address will need to be cloned as there is a binding by mas-addresses. We press to save.

After saving the WAN settings, click the add button in the lower right corner and go to the main WAN settings. This time we select PPPoE in the "Connection type" field. Then, instead of the standard connection name, you can enter any other (for example, for me - Medialan), in the "Username" field we enter your login from the Internet Medialan, in the fields password and password confirmation - respectively. Check the Keep Alive checkbox and click "Save". On the next page, where the newly created connection will be displayed, we will again be prompted to save the configuration. We save.

Now, if all the operations above were performed correctly, if you did not make a mistake when entering the connection parameters, then when you go to the "Network" menu to the "WAN" tab, you should see the following happy picture:

Pay attention to the mark in the item "Default gateway", by default there should be a PPPoE connection you created. If all three connections are active, then this indicates that the most basic thing for configuring D-Link DIR-300 NRU rev. We have successfully completed B7 and can proceed to the next step.

Setting up a WI-FI connection DIR-300 NRU B7

In general, a Wi-Fi wireless connection can be used immediately after turning on the router to the network, but in most cases it is useful to configure some of its parameters, in particular, set a password for the Wi-Fi access point so that neighbors do not use your Internet. Even if you are not sorry, this can affect the speed of the network, and the "brakes" when working on the Internet will most likely not be pleasant to you. We go to the Wi-Fi tab, basic settings. Here you can set the name of the access point (SSID), it can be anything, it is desirable to use the Latin alphabet. After this is done, click change.

Now go to the "Security Settings" tab. Here you should select the type of network authentication (preferably WPA2-PSK, as in the picture) and set a password for your WiFi access point - letters and numbers, at least 8 characters. Click "Change". Done. Now you can connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot from any device equipped with the appropriate communication module - be it a laptop, smartphone, tablet or Smart TV.

UPD: if it doesn't work, try changing the LAN address of the router to 192.168.1.1 in settings - network - LAN.

What is needed for TV from Medialan to work In order for IPTV from Medialan to work through a router, go to the first page of the DIR-300 NRU rev settings. B7 (for this you can click the quick setting in the lower right corner) and select "IPTV Settings Wizard". It remains only to choose the port to which you will connect the IPTV set-top box. We press to change.

That's probably all, do not forget to save the router settings!
