On the front side there is total minimalism: there are no physical buttons in the Acer Iconia Tab A500, only virtual ones. Here you can see it at the small end of the camera. And also completely miniature - in the photograph you can’t see it at all - the eye of the lightness sensor.

And, obviously, there is a display right there - perhaps the most powerful feature of this tablet computer. With a diagonal of 10 inches in a building of 1280x800 - a pixel at least an eye, the picture looks smooth. I was also pleased with the brightness, contrast and beauty: the image is clearly visible under any reasonable skin. As it seems in Acer, they have a Vicoristan RK matrix of the MVA type. Judging by the high quality of the image, it is entirely similar to those.

The rear part of the Viconan extension is made of gray metal with the effect of rough grinding. Small inserts on the front panel - above and below the display - are made from a new one. This, however, is surrounded by details, and not by a cleverly curved single sheet of metal.

In general, the body of the panels is neatly assembled, the panels are well-fitted, so the Iconia Tab A500 feels comfortable in the hands. However, the large number of parts on the unit makes it clear - when twisted, the case still creaks slightly.

There are two speakers in the Iconia Tab A500, located on the rear panel. Their sound volume is high - on par with an average laptop. It’s especially difficult to worry about those that can be blocked with your fingers or knees - in which case the “forward” stinks begin to sound louder.

There is another camera on the back panel. The lens is a little larger, lower at the front, but also small. A large decorative adhesion around the crown may be responsible for enhancing the steepness of the 5-megapixel matrix.

The coolness, however, is also obvious: the photographs appear, apparently, in reality. It would have been possible to get by with a smaller “megapixel” camera. Otherwise, it’s hard to accept that the owner of the tablet won’t stumble under the hand of a camera, but would like to use a phone (and in mobile phones, you can put less damn cameras).

The tablet is thin, but without going overboard, so that a large number of brown elements can be accommodated on its side edges. The stench is evenly distributed on different sides, so you can add it manually. On the right side there is a power button, headphone output and digital video output - unfortunately, this is due to the exotic Micro HDMI format. It’s an even greater pity that no suitable cable was found in the kit.

The following USB ports are included: a multi-size USB-host, which allows you to connect flash drives, and a Micro USB-slave, which allows you to connect to a computer. Here you can also see the discard button and enter new life.

There are unknown connectors on the lower body: it can be assumed that this is not intended for connecting a docking station.

There is a dial button at the top, which helps to regulate the loudness of the sound. Behind it is a miniature slider that fixes the display orientation.

Behind a small plastic door there is a device for reading Micro SD memory cards. Most importantly, the new version with a 3G module will be available for a SIM card connector.

Despite the fact that the Iconia Tab A500 has a display with the same diagonal values ​​as the Archos A101, the Acer tablet is significantly larger: about a centimeter wider and taller for the same size. Why so? First of all, in Archos they used a matrix with 16:9 aspect ratio, and in “Iconia” the screen was 16:10. In other words, the frame here is noticeably wider.

What is more unacceptable is that the tablet is not too light: its weight is 760 grams. Due to the “wide-format” shape of the body, it is very important that if you trim it with one hand, the “support” hand will quickly shut up. Obviously, there are no problems with gripping with both hands, except that it’s impossible to work with the keyboard: the screen is too wide so that your fingers can reach the center without breaking your hand.

There is no built-in stand here, but Acer’s additional accessory provides a stand case - however, without magnets and other wonders of technology.

Call Acer for more savings on packaging, which is entirely reasonable. At this point, however, the box looks expensive - it’s clearly been insured for gifts.

The packaging, however, is minimalist: in addition to a large amount of absolutely waste paper, in the box you can also find a charging device, a Micro USB cable and a microfiber cloth for the inevitable cleaning of the glossy display.

The complete life block has some shortcomings: the length of the wire is only one meter. Considering that the sockets are designed to be installed low, which allows a maximum of 70 centimeters to go out from the wall. The 10.1-inch screen of the tablet uses IPS technology and has a resolution of 1920x1200 pixels. The brightness of the picture is bad, but not ideal: the colors are natural, which is sufficient to look at, the sharpness in small images and fonts is easily accepted.

Software and interface

On board Iconia Tab there are 10 installations of Android version 6.0 without any additional ones.

Interface, functionality

The device operates under Android 4.0.3 controls with the proprietary Touch Ring interface.
