Sound from a macbook pro after replacing the hard drive. Install an SSD and another HDD. What new things have we learned about this history, friends?

Hello everyone! Today we’ll let you know how I replaced the hard drive with an SSD drive on my new MacBook. I have already told you about my blog, and about the fact that I bought a MacBook Pro 13 without Retina. So, the axis in this laptop costs an even larger HDD Hard Disk, whose speed wraps up 5400 and therefore hangs when starting new applications or when exiting sleep. I especially note those in a stationary computer that already have 3 different SSD hard drives, on which I have installed the system and the necessary programs, plus how much I have already bought one SSD storage device for gambling, maybe I like to gamble different cool games.

I'm not saying that Apple missed the mark with this laptop and ruined it, no. It’s just that whoever, if you didn’t mention anyone, didn’t have anything to compare with.

This laptop has a disk drive, I know a lot of videos and articles on the Internet about the drive upgrade option by replacing the drive with an optibay (DVD slim 9.5mm adapter for HDD) in which you can put a hard drive instead of the drive and in place of the HDD install SSD. I bought everything, including an adapter and an SSD storage unit for 256 GB Vertex 450 from the OCZ distributor (the price of the new chalen is 7890 rub.) Why did I choose OCZ itself? – To reduce the risk of reliability, SSDs may require multiple write cycles.

Optibay - The thing is even more powerful than anyone has come up with, I think this will be of benefit to those whose laptop is no longer quite new, you can replace the drive with an SSD storage device and Windows will work much faster.

I thought for a long time and decided that, in principle, I would not need another HDD to replace the drive and decided to remove the drive and just install an SSD of 256 gigabytes, which is not so small for a work laptop, but more since I have an external one USB hard drive and desktop PC .

Let's get started before replacing this huge HDD!

The first thing we need this tool is a small twist of the Torx cross, I lost it the moment I changed the bevel on my old iPhone 4. A hexagon and a plastic spatula, also included in the kit. The tool plays an important role when analyzing Apple technology! There is no need to twist these small bolts with a knife! I recommend not to rush and if you don’t have the necessary tools, then it’s better not to start, but to buy everything right away.

Now I need to remove the static electricity from myself, I searched on the Internet for how to do this and figured that it would be easier to just stretch out to my underpants, no matter what the antistatic features are.

Laptop can be moved and turned over

First, unscrew and paint a diagram on the arches of the paper so as not to get lost in the bolts, since all Apple technology has different bolts. Here we have 3 long ones and 7 short ones, and these are seven by 4, which is important.

So we paint the axle and put the bolts in their place, so that we can then screw them back into place without any problems! This method works in dismantling any device, and is very effective - something I didn’t know about when I sorted out my toys as a child.

We unscrewed it, unscrewed the bolts, removed the cover and connected the life cable! Otherwise, you accidentally miss the screw or any other metal object on the motherboard will become short-circuited and that’s it, replace the motherboard... and maybe something else.

Robimo everything is carefully done with a plastic spatula!

Next we unscrew the hard drive trim. Once again, I’m amazed at how simple and clear everything is, the trimach is metal, the orange rubber grips in the photo tighten the bolts to secure the hard drive, I feel comfortable, I think when it hits, it absorbs a little and causes less harm to the hard drive.

After you have removed the trimach, carefully lift the hard drive and tighten the SATA cables, as it will be important to connect it with a plastic spatula.

We've twisted it, now we put our SSD in place, carefully connect the cable, and first insert the lower bolts into the orange grips and press it with a trimach.

We close the cover back, take the bolts from our circuit and screw everything into place.

Don't brag about the operating system, Apple is also here! Nina, we’ll install everything. So, all the data from the old hard drive will have to be transferred via a connection route to the computer or via a SATA-USB adapter, I guess, whose complexity is not to blame.

We connect the laptop to the Internet via a cable (or more) or via Wi-Fi, you are prompted to select an access point, before connecting, enter a password and that’s it.

Turn on the laptop and press the CMD+R keys until such time as progress appears, after which, as soon as we begin to remember, we will follow the axis of the following image:

It’s a pity to install OS X Mountain Lion, although OS X Mavericks came out a long time ago, but there’s nothing terrible about it, we don’t have Hackintosh (I’ve been playing Hackintosh on my desktop PC for a long time, and that’s when my craving for Apple began, especially brought respect to Time Machine, this speech will never be in Windows!)

Don’t be in a hurry to continue, go straight to the top menu in Utilities, Disk Utility and create or partition a hard drive. After clicking “Continue”, we accept the license agreement and select the disk on which we will install.

I have one, I won’t share it:

During the process of downloading system files, you don’t have to sit and check everything, just complete everything in automatic mode, after downloading the files, re-enable and start the installation as you go through the process.

The axis is the result of the speed of the robot, when running Adobe Photoshop CS 6:

By chance, when I installed Windows 8 on an SSD, a Vikorist USB 3.0 flash drive, on a PC with an Intel i5 processor, I honestly was in shock, because the hour of installation from the beginning to the desktop took only 8 hours! This is cool, what will happen in the future?

That's all, I think the information will be worthless. Thank you for your respect! Subscribe to the latest blog. Ask your questions in the comments, I think I’ll write in the future about how I installed more RAM, but for now I’m using 4 gigabytes on my laptop.

Or, as you know, a hard disk, a vikorist or a twister and a pliers.

Consider a simple situation: you want to upgrade your computer and install a new hard drive. The scenario for a personal computer and for a laptop is the same. We definitely need a backup copy using either Acronis (PC) or Carbon Copy Cloner (Mac) on an external or other internal hard drive; We copy a new disk, add it from the backup copy and update it to the new disk. Ready.

Now let's understand a different, broader situation. You are an average statistical citizen, aged under 50, who clearly recognizes how he works. You're stuck with software that's just like a computer and you don't know about the script, guidance or anything else. What are your ideas? If you are a writer, then the only option is to contact someone you know, who, in a sing-song manner, will pick up your car. However, if you are a MacBook owner and enjoy life in Thailand, then your activities will be limited to three groups. Well, okay. I'm crafty. You will also need a twist and pliers.

Zavdannya

Install a new hard drive on a MacBook Pro under Mac OS X Lion, with only a screwdriver, pliers, a Time Capsule at your fingertips (so, what a reliable technology there would be for no one to insure, so backup!) and a short instruction on “how to grow a Mac” beech » . Pіzavdannya: all work while lying in a hammock without any connection to life, to a usb hard drive, without flash drives, without disks, without a bear, without anything that needs to be built in somewhere.

For myself I chose Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB. I don’t dwell on the reasons. Remember, I’m a regular citizen: after seeing an article in a magazine, I wanted to buy it.

Replacement

Vimikaemo computer. We remove the back cover and remove the old hard drive.

Removed from the new studs. The main problem is that the studs are screwed behind an additional torx (a screw with a slot in the shape of a six-prominent star). Well, I don’t have such a twist in me and never have had one. Natomist is pliers. Remembering the vibration, we press the pins onto the retainer. The bolt fixer is not a big deal in the scenario, but there are a lot of reasons why I don’t have to deal with it quickly.

We close the lid. That's it. The most complicated part is completed. You can pick up the tools, place them in a hammock and enjoy freshly brewed coffee, vikory and an old screw as a stand for a bowl.

Update

When you turn on the laptop, a mysterious folder icon with a power sign appears on the screen. Yaku, as I say, can be easily replaced with a smiley o_O. It means that the operating system is not found. It didn’t make sense. We re-lock the laptop and jam the key Option(That's right Alt, there you go ). This is why MacBooks are attracted to Recovery HD mode. Not knowing any external storage devices, the system immediately selects the nearest Wi-Fi and proceeds to connect via the Internet. That's it, and all the disks from the resuscitator.

15 years ago, the system was activated in update mode. Then you can either update everything from Time Machine or install everything again. Finally, you should also become interested in the Internet. If you do not maintain the same licenses or passwords for your Apple ID or any other network. Please note that you were able to download Recovery HD, which means you already have at least Lion, which means that once you were already added (or angry from torrents >: D). Select the disk with backup and press to continue. Before speaking, you can update the status to any date that is in the Time Capsule.

That's it. After about an hour, the MacBook will re-engage and you can continue watching the movie from where you started. This is how the Resume function worked here.

Pouches

I never confirm that this method is the most beautiful and the best. Vin is simply incredibly friendly and simple. Of course, you can use an external USB hard drive as a Time Machine - which will allow you to easily transfer more than one hundred thousand pounds of data over Wi-Fi. Before speaking, my configuration was the best possible: backup is saved on an external hard drive, USB connections to the Time Capsule, and all files are encrypted using FileVault.

So my MacBook downloaded everything for half the next day. I just want to demonstrate the smoothness and “sweetness” of the process.

For problems that have occurred, I just want to indicate only the password that was sent to Dropbox and the bookmarks favicon in Chrome. On one of the forums there was a discussion about saving data in MySQL databases (as such). After checking that everything is in order.

I am overjoyed and overjoyed that Apple has recently brought about a stink for people.

This way we won’t consume disk space. You will find out how you can remember it in advance.

Apple offers options for individual configurations of its laptops and desktop PCs with more RAM/HDD/SSD, and they charge twice as much for the components; stylishly. In addition, in Russian and Ukrainian realities, setting up a custom configuration costs a pretty penny, in addition to the increased cost of a “branded” release. Although, it is the same brand as it was purchased from any company that sells computer components. It is better to test and replace the remaining version of Firmare, which is important for the SSD, or a little later.

In any case, if in the USA an HDD upgrade costs $100, then in Russia and Ukraine it will cost only $150, or even $200 within the framework of an individual PC configuration. The solution is simple - it’s much cheaper to use a MacBook or MacBook Pro on your own. Unfortunately, the MacBook Air doesn't matter. This RAM is soldered into the motherboard, and an SSD of this format is difficult to find on sale for a pittance, plus the screw for disassembly requires a special and rare one - Pentalobe (5-pointer). Today I would like to hear about replacing the storage device in the MacBook Pro, so I’ll go through the RAM upgrade and ways to quickly transfer special data from the old HDD/SSD to the new one.

A better clone, a lower backup copy

The last to be released is the 15-inch MacBook Pro 2011 release. “Lion” has already settled on New OS X, but I have not yet moved on to the next generation, Snow Leopard is installed, plus this laptop for less time, to be a good friend until the conclusions of the rest of the generation arrive. It is not necessary to change the storage of software on your HDD, so that if necessary, you can quickly return everything to its original appearance. In this manner, the modernization of the hoarder is almost, one might say, from the end – from the transfer of special data. Allowing this to significantly save time.

On the Windows platform, third-party utilities are needed to permanently clone the system and other sections, although in Windows 7 this function has already been built into the system. In Mac OS X, the standard Disk Utility has been working since the first releases. Moreover, everything is implemented very simply, the beginner understands. One problem can arise when a 2.5-inch storage device is connected to the laptop via USB. The best options are the same. I purchased a new storage unit for the HDD, shown in the photo above, and lost the old MacBok Pro branded hard drive, and with it I decided to use it instead to accumulate a time-consuming laptop. External jelly is a very inexpensive thing and is used in the government for saving media content on small hard drives instead of optical disks. The price of a gigabyte of HDD is already approaching that of DVD discs. You can also smoke the old USB-accumulator and vikoristovvat your filling. On the other hand, the workings of devices of this kind are easily known, and nothing will happen to the lamati. The remaining method is not very simple, but it is possible and, in principle, it will still be simpler, but the standard procedure for transferring data when changing the internal storage device, which we will talk about later.

A standard external USB drive of sufficient capacity is used - a clone of the system partition is used, then the HDD is changed in the laptop, the device is selected and connected using the Alt (Option) button, after which show up to select a volume to attract. Of course, it seems like an external hoarder. Once the system becomes interested in it, a reverse cloning operation is carried out with the help of Disk Utility. In addition, you can find out about the lost Mac OS X disk. If you want to get hold of it, you can also launch “Disk Utility” (located in the utilities section, in the top menu) and carry out the same operations what's in the middle of OS X.

Revert to a screenshot. It is explicitly stated there that work is required for complete cloning of the system partition. Zokrema, then launch “Disk Utility”, select any accumulator and go to the “Update” section. At the Poli "jerylo" by the Drag-And-Drop, the sweat system of the Rozdil-with the Robit Klon, in the half "recognized" New Podeluvach, yagcho yogo so that all data will be displayed on the new one. Then you can talk about their savings in the future. It is absolutely necessary to select the “Clear storage area” item, which transfers not just the deletion of data (that is), but the formatting of the partition in the required format (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)). After everything is selected, click the “Renew” button. On my account, about 100 GB of data were copied in just over a year, although the system initially indicated that it would be borrowed for three years.

Of course, all these operations are carried out in the same way from the SSD, if the user wants to install this type of storage HDD. Before speaking, the correct decision is that the increase in productivity is great and significant, and the increase in RAM from 4 to 8 GB. One caveat is that you may have to update the SSD firmware to support the TRIM command. Windows 7 is here for the first time, and Mac OS X has appeared since the release of 10.6.8. A very useful command for solid-state accumulators, which allows you to avoid a significant decrease in the productivity of the device during the hour of replenishment and waste. First of all, I want to install the SSD first, read the thematic forums and sign up for the model. One of the best options on the market is presented by Intel.

RAM is easy to increase

Well, having accumulated all the preparations, the time has come to take apart the laptop. I recommend placing it upside down on something like a microfibre cloth or on a neoprene cover, like my one. To remove the cover, you need to screw the Philips 0. The bolts are tightened with some force, and the remaining parts must be tightened (blue bolts on the loose ones). In the world, it is necessary to arrange them on the table in the same way as they are distributed in the laptop, as there are a number of parts that are dismantled after the end.

The bottom cover may not give in the first time - it’s too tight to sit on. Do not use brute force to push it, just gently pull it up from the side of the display hinge. The result looks like this:

For the 13-inch model, everything is very similar, although there is only one fan. Є access to HDD and RAM also. First of all, you need to remove the static charge from the inside of the computer so as not to damage the lower electronic components. You can hit a metal part in the middle of a laptop, for example, the case of an optical drive, or hit a metal faucet in the bathroom or kitchen. To remember the memory, just slide the hooks along the edges of the slot, the RAM strips will rise up on their own and are easy to pull out. Install the new one carefully and firmly: place the bar under the cover near the rose (the same cover as with the knitted part), press forward a little so that it goes up to the new position, then lower the RAM down until it clicks. Make sure that the pins end up directly opposite the main slots on the memory strips. Particularly concerned with the situation, if the person simply did not insert the RAM into the socket, but could lower it in a horizontal position. Actually, having laid the planks on fire. The result of waking up a PC without RAM without starting. Although this was the case in the Mac mini, the design of the sockets and mounts for RAM are identical to those in the laptop.

I would like to add that Apple previously recommended that the battery be removed every hour when replacing components, although it was within an hour if the laptops were equipped with a spare battery (models that were produced before 2008 inclusive). You can turn on the power socket immediately, as I did, if you changed the HDD and RAM in 2009 with your new 13-inch “Product” at that time, but, as practice has shown, this is not the case. There is no information about this in the official instructions. A good friend is a technical supporter at an official reseller of Apple equipment, and without disconnecting the battery, he replaced dozens of memory sticks and storage devices, there were no problems, but don’t forget to completely unmute the laptop before doing this, and not put it into mode sleep, and also remove static charge.

Save up a little more hassle

Now let's move on to the HDD. It is not screwed tightly to the laptop, but lies in a special landing place. To remove the storage device, unscrew the plastic strip near the edge of the storage device (on the side of the optical drive). The Philips 0 twist is also vikorized.

After this, you need to pull the strap and carefully remove the accumulator, and insert the connector - it can be easily removed.

There are several bolts with a Torx 6 head screwed into the sides of the HDD. Afterwards, the noise of such a screw or attachment will be abrasive, since they cannot be removed using a flat or cross-shaped bolt, the bolts will sit tightly. We unscrew them from the old heap and screw them to the new one, it’s simple.

The plastic strap can be glued to a new HDD or SSD - you can easily carry out dozens of such operations without wasting adhesive power.

After connecting the connector on the place, lift the HDD in its mounting bed and screw the plastic bar. Well, axis, everything is ready:

As it seems, you can get away with it more than once, read it at least 100 times, obviously, and marvel at the video of the whole process, filmed by an overseas colleague, JaymarkTech:

Place the lid on the bottom cover, the pill can be collected on it, and the product can be removed.

Since the system separates the cloned copies onto a new storage device later, you can turn on the laptop and use the new one. Otherwise, you will end up using a backup Mac OS X disk and a Time Machine backup (or a USB storage option, as described above). The procedure is simple, although it takes more than an hour to clone the system partition through Disk Utility.

Next, go to the installation system disk, run Disk Utility, split the storage into sections, if necessary, or select one section and format it in the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. After this, you can print the Mac OS X installation. Then you need to install all system updates through the “Program Update” function and you can download a Time Machine backup. In the case of OS X Lion, control (similarly, through a pressed Alt button) occurs from the previously created partition on any flash drive. This is what the company's cost-free program Lion Recovery Disk Assistant is for. Next, the system is installed from the Mac App Store, so you need to connect to the Internet for about 3.5 GB of data. The result is a scheduled update from a backup copy, as described above. Well, it’s still easier to first clone the disk, copy it manually, install the OS and transfer data from a Time Machine backup.

Axis, power, and that’s it. There’s nothing complicated about it - try it, and you, dear readers, will all come out smoothly.

It is very important that the information will not be relevant for the users of our current laptops, since, first of all, they are supplied only with installed solid-state drives, and in another way, the installed drives have a non-traditional form factor or interface
For those who use the 2.5” form factor and SATA interface, instructions are provided to help increase the productivity of the laptop without significant costs.

You can, of course, go to the official Apple service center to replace the accumulator, otherwise the service may turn up on the road, before you singly sing about the Solit-State Drive Kit - “official, from the manufacturer”, the price of which, I say chi , not comparable productivity.

We, in our opinion, recommend that you replace the HDD with a wonderful SSD on your own and are ready to do so.

In the photo below you can see the SanDisk SSD. This solid-state accumulator itself was deposited in our laboratory at the time of creation of the article. This is a copy of SSD creations based on the SandForse SF-2281 controller, which has proven itself well in other solid-state drives. They are distinguished by high read/write speed and increased speed.

Well, what do we need?

This entire procedure will not take you 30 minutes, but the productivity of the laptop will increase significantly - the operating system and programs will be downloaded practically immediately and the laptop will be more “responsive” to your requests. All this means that the system denies official access to data, which is simply necessary to increase the speed of the work.
Since you don’t see the usual sounds for active work with data, your MacBook will become even quieter.
In addition, for the significantly lower energy consumption of an SSD, even with a 2.5" HDD, a MacBook can run a fraction of the time of one battery charge - this is another uninterrupted plus from the use of solid-state drives in laptops.
The only thing you can spend is a couple of grams of money, even an SSD that’s even a little lighter, or a lower hard drive.

It’s hard to tell about the advantages of solid-state drives (SSDs) over standard hard drives (HDDs). MacBook owners who installed SSD drives appreciated the speed of these devices. However, as it turned out, with such a clumsy task in a MacBook like replacing a hard drive, you can run into a serious problem that requires a qualified service. Mac OS, when administrated under Windows, does not automatically enable the TRIM command for newly created SSD drives. TRIM works especially well in cases where the laptop is equipped with an SSD.

TRIM – what is it?

TRIM is an important command that is sent by drivers that monitor the operation of the file system, the power controller of the SSD storage device when any file is deleted. When TRIM is removed, the controller reads information that the system no longer requires and allocates memory blocks from it, thereby clearing space for new files. Memory blocks of a solid-state drive are rewritten just as quickly as HDDs, but another principle of rewriting is used - data is written on top of old information. Unfortunately, the operating system does not support the TRIM command without proper setup - make sure that you understand that something went wrong even after installing the SSD, when you try to work with a new storage device.

How to find out what the TRIM command does

When replacing the HDD with an SSD, do not forget to know from afar that the TRIM team is following the steps that need to be thoroughly cleaned. It means like this:

  • Click on the Apple icon on the top of the screen and select it from the menu "About this Mac";
  • Select "Speaking about the system";
  • In the open window of evil we know the position "Hardware facilities" and further " SATA/SATA Express";
  • Vikoristovuyemo right-handed scrolling, do not touch the point " TRIM support";
  • If, on the contrary to this point, we say “So,” then everything is fine, but if it is “No,” then the TRIM function must be launched.

Launching TRIM on MacBook

Shchob press TRIM on a MacBook, you need to first reconnect so that you are logged into the system with the new administrator settings.

  • We open the addendum " Terminal«;
  • Enter in the command line sudo trimforce enable,Enter;
  • Find the current password of the account that is currently being tested, and press Enter;
  • When prompted, the system confirms your choice by typing “y” and pressing Enter;
  • We give the go-ahead to restart the laptop by selecting “y” again and confirming Enter.

After all the operations of the devices, you can re-enable and work with the TRIM connection on the MacBook. About all sorts of bad luck, take a look at “ Let's talk about the system"And change over, it's the opposite" TRIM support" Now it’s worth confirming “So.” Now you can smile replace HDD with SSD on MacBook, don’t be afraid of what you accumulated incorrectly.
