Samsung galaxy tab s2 9.7 year of release. Samsung Galaxy Tab S2: world's thinnest flagship tablet Faster modem

31.12.2016

It would seem that this - well, a person bought himself a new tablet and bought it, also an event for me. I thought so too, but had the imprudence to brag about the purchase on Twitter. The indescribable began - people, even those whom I previously considered adequate, pounced on me with angry statements such as "Who will buy a Samsung tablet when there is an iPad for the same money", "Any Samsung is a lagging and braking disgrace" and "There is only one tablet is an iPad "and other, almost May Day slogans. On that wonderful day, I pressed the "Block User" button more times than in all previous years.

Prerequisites

In 2011, we bought my wife an iPad of the second generation as a tablet computer, which after a couple of years was smoothly replaced by the iPad 4. Used "aypadina", as affectionately called the spouse's tablet, mainly for Internet surfing, for working with mail, for simple online games, less often - for viewing photos and videos.

The iPad has never been part of the notorious "Apple ecosystem", although attempts have been made, at home from time to time various apple devices appeared and disappeared, including the iPhone and MacBook. For some reason, my wife did not want to comprehend the intricacies of the peculiar logic of the iOS operation, especially in the exchange of content, although I can’t blame her for laziness and lack of curiosity, she independently mastered the BlackBerry OS of several generations, but here ... It seems that there was some kind of then a vague dislike for the very ideology of Apple devices, and I cannot reproach my spouse with this, since I myself prefer the simple and understandable logic of Android.

But, be that as it may, with each update, the iPad worked worse and worse, brakes and freezes in the interface began to appear, and after the last update package, the question of upgrading (read - buying a new tablet) arose.

A cue aside: I seem to understand why Apple continues to support its entire line of devices in software for so long. It's simple - after the next such update, you will want to smash your lagging and braking iPhone or iPad against the wall, and you go to the store to buy a new device from Apple. Although, it would seem, the old still has to work and work ☺.

Actually, there was no question of choice. We wanted to quickly buy some kind of iPad Air 2 and calm down on that. But in the store, where my wife had already habitually started to pull the veins out of the boy-consultant, I suddenly thought.

Why, in fact, the iPad?

The spouse does not have much sympathy for apple technology, does not use any Apple services, does not want to master work with iTunes - so why torture yourself and the technology? And at the same time, he calmly handles his freshly acquired BlackBerry Priv on the Android operating system, with which it coexists quite peacefully, understands and accepts its logic. So why not get an Android tablet?

Such a bold thought did not immediately fit into my head, I feverishly went back and forth. What to choose from an abundance of tablet computers on the shelves? Only Samsung competes on an equal footing with Apple, which means we'll choose the best robot in the world.

A quick search on the Internet identified the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 model, but it was not on the shelves, although the store's site said otherwise. The boy-consultant, torn away from his wife, shyly explained that they do not put it on the window - "Anyway, no one buys tablets from Apple for such a price." Why bad? No ... Is there a quality problem? No, Samsung. Maybe it slows down? What are you, everything flies!

The wife jealously assessed the weight and thickness of the Tab S2 tablet taken out of the box: "Will it definitely not slow down?" To be honest, I was thinking. When in 2011 we bought an iPad, out of curiosity I drove the first "Tabs" from Samsung exhibited in the windows. They frankly upset me with their lags, even with a simple flipping of desktops.

And today I hoped for the best and, as subsequent events showed, I was not mistaken.

So we bought it ☺.

Later, the wife admitted that she agreed to buy it because she somehow immediately liked the beautiful golden color of the tablet. Oh women; because of the beautiful color, they will also lead to some semi-unnamed Chinese freak.

Packaging

The tablet was packed quite soundly, despite the modest size of the box. Everything you need is a charger, a USB cable, a Samsung paper clip to remove the SIM and memory card trays.

The microUSB connector, which is beginning to become obsolete, somewhat upset, I, frankly, quietly hoped to attach at least here a tangle of Type-C cables and chargers, which I recklessly acquired in anticipation of the now deceased Samsung Galaxy Note 7, and now lonely living in the far corner of the desk drawer.

"How light it is!"

On this, it seems to me, the question of doubts about the smoothness and speed of work on Samsung tablets can be closed.

Now let's take a look at device screen... It uses the latest generation Super AMOLED used by Samsung in its flagships. The resolution is 1536x2048, a parameter similar to tablets from Apple.

The screen has all the advantages of Amoled: immaculate black color, lack of the concept of "visibility at angles" and joyful saturated colors. You can say whatever you want, but I frankly like this kind of pop palette and have always liked it. Traditional IPS is not capable of displaying such colors, but on my Samsung I can always bring the screen back to normal (natural colors) using the usual TouchWiz settings.

There is also a "Reading Mode", which adds very warm tones to the gamut of the screen, thus working with the tablet in the dark becomes very comfortable.

But, to be as objective as possible, I will note a small drawback. The white colors of the screen during everyday work will seem to you absolutely white, without straining, but if you compare the tablet screen "head-on" with the iPhone 7 Plus screen at maximum brightness, you will notice that the white color on the iPhone screen is whiter and brighter.

But, again, in everyday use this fact will not bother you in any way. The color reproduction of the tablet display is close to ideal. No "flickers" or traces of pentail, about which amoledo-haters love to write so much, were not noticed during operation. Long-term work with the tablet in a semi-lighted room does not cause any eye fatigue - it's checked.

And the second small minus is not very correctly working automation, which sets the screen backlight level. Sometimes he thinks too long, reducing the brightness when turning off the light in the room.

By sound... On the lower edge of the tablet there are honest stereo speakers of very good quality, music is played well and loudly, without distortion. Headphone sound is typical for Samsung smartphones.

About work wireless interfaces I can't say anything bad, everything works as it should on a quality device. This also applies to voice communication, and LTE, and Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The data transfer speed is completely unlimited and depends only on the tariff plan.

Of the installed software on the smartphone, only function "3D-shooting", the essence of which is that you can shoot any object from all sides with a continuous movement and get its virtual 3D model.

The idea is great, but its implementation still leaves much to be desired. In practice, I faced the constant vagaries of the application - there is almost always insufficient lighting for the camera! And when I surrounded the lights from all sides, the program brazenly announced that this time it had too much light.

In short, to get a 3D model, you have to tinker a lot. And a really high-quality result is generally unattainable, you can take a look at my best work.

Not impressive, right? But, perhaps, with prolonged training, something worthy will work out.

As with any self-respecting mobile device of our time, the tablet has fingerprint scanner... You can tie a fingerprint to unlock the screen, log in to sites and more.

I remember that on Note 5 (not to mention Note 4) I didn't really like using this function, it worked not very quickly and not very accurately - I compare it with the iPhone 7 Plus I have now. However, the fingerprint scanner on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 pleased me very pleasantly - there were no erroneous recognitions at all, and the whole thing works faster than on an iPhone. For a split second, but faster and it is noticeable. The screen is unlocked like this: we press once on the Home key (we don’t take our finger off!) - and immediately it is triggered. Very fast.

Continuing the theme of security - the tablet has a traditional Samsung KNOX.

Another of the most interesting moments is, of course, battery and autonomy... The battery capacity of the tablet from Samsung is 5870 mAh versus 7340 mAh of the only competitor

TFT IPS - High quality liquid crystal matrix. Has wide viewing angles, one of the best indicators of color and contrast quality among all that are used in the production of displays for portable equipment.
Super AMOLED - if a conventional AMOLED screen uses several layers, between which there is an air gap, then in Super AMOLED there is only one such sensor layer without air gaps. This allows you to achieve a brighter screen for the same power consumption.
Super AMOLED HD - differs from Super AMOLED in high resolution, thanks to which it is possible to achieve a size of 1280x720 pixels on a mobile phone screen.
Super AMOLED plus - this is a new generation of Super AMOLED displays, which differs from the previous one by using more subpixels in a conventional RGB matrix. The new displays are 18% thinner and brighter than the older PenTile technology.
AMOLED - an improved version of OLED technology. The main advantages of the technology are significantly reduced power consumption, the ability to display a wider color gamut, smaller thickness and the ability of the display to bend slightly without the risk of breaking.
Retina -display with high pixel density, designed specifically for Apple technology. The pixel density on Retina displays is such that individual pixels are invisible to the eye at a normal distance from the screen. This provides the highest picture detail and dramatically improves the overall viewing experience.
Super Retina HD - the display is made using OLED technology. The pixel density is 458 PPI, the contrast ratio reaches 1,000,000: 1. The display has a wide color gamut and unrivaled color accuracy. Pixels in the corners of the display are anti-aliased at the sub-pixel level, so the edges are smooth and smooth. 50% thicker Super Retina HD gain layer. It will be harder to break the screen.
Super LCD is the next generation of LCD technology and features improved performance over earlier LCD displays. The screens have not only wide viewing angles and better color reproduction, but also lower power consumption.
TFT- A common type of liquid crystal displays. With an active matrix controlled by TFTs, display performance and contrast and clarity are significantly improved.
OLED - organic electroluminescent display. Consists of a special thin-film polymer that emits light under the action of an electric field. This type of display has a large margin of brightness and consumes very little power.

The tablet has all the functions expected from a Korean company's flagship.

A fingerprint scanner will not only unlock the device with a light touch, but also protect it. You can also restrict access to individual applications and accounts by fingerprint.

Enjoy the image on Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 "SM-T815N 32Gb LTE Black will allow a large, juicy and bright 9.7 inch Super AMOLED screen. It has a QXGA resolution that is 2048 x 1536 pixels. The ratio of height and width of the display 4 to 3, together with a light and thin body, make it comfortable to surf the Internet, read books and work with the interface. And thanks to the improved multitasking mode, now you do not have to constantly minimize applications. You can use the browser and work with text files at the same time, simply by dividing the screen into two parts, and the size of these parts you determine yourself.

With 3GB of RAM, paired with an eight-core processor with four high-performance cores running at 1.9GHz and four at 1.3GHz, you don't have to worry about an application or game running slowly. Maximum performance is enabled only in "demanding" applications, allowing more economical use of the battery, which with a capacity of 5870 mAh allows you to surf the Internet for up to 8 hours straight. Video and audio playback times are impressive 12 and 109 hours, respectively. The volume of built-in memory is 32 GB, of which the user can use 25.2 GB for data storage, expandable with microSD cards up to 128 GB.

Into a tablet computer Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 "SM-T815N 32Gb LTE Black supports all modern data transfer methods, it has 4G LTE, Wi-Fi (a / b / g / n standards) with support for Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth version 4.1. Thanks to the support of GPS and GLONASS, the device can be used as a navigator, and the size of the display will allow you not to peer to see the desired route.

The main camera with a resolution of 8 megapixels with a fast lens, provides decent quality photos and allows you to record videos in a resolution of 2560 x 1440, even in low light conditions. And for making video calls, the 2.1 megapixel front camera is perfect.

1. The button that houses the fingerprint scanner has a delay. I have my fingerprint reader disabled and no screen saver. When you press a key, the screen turns on with a delay of one and a half or two seconds. I put this drawback in the first place, since you use this key several times every day and constantly pay attention to this delay.

2. Charging time. In the off state, it charges for 4 hours and 50 minutes. Almost 5 hours! Samsung saved on fast charging. The charger itself is 2.0A, but it doesn't help. All this is bad, because the tablet itself does not set any records for power consumption.

3. The% charge indication does not work very well. The tablet turns off already at 3% charge. Discharge dynamics can be difficult to predict. When reading a book, the tablet can discharge from 8% to 3% in 5 minutes.

4. Performance is quite average. It does not in any way correspond to the positioning of the tablet as a flagship. AnTuTu v6.0.4 after 6 months of use - 64533. It costs Android 5.0.2. As a result, we get small twitching in the Facebook feed and jerking when browsing pages on Google Play.

5. The weight of the device, combined with the sharp edges on the aluminum chamfer, sometimes cause discomfort when, for example, you lie down, read and the tablet bites into your palm.

6. The oleophobic coating of the screen is not bad, but there is no progress, for example, in comparison with my old Note8 tablet, which is more than 3 years old. The finger slides in about the same way, and the screen gets smudged even faster.

7. Very mediocre in terms of tactile sensations branded cover, made of cheap leatherette. It contrasts particularly strongly with the metal frame and glass. To connect the cover and the tablet, you need to press so that you will bend the tablet itself. I don't even want to think about what will happen if I have to shoot the cover.

8. Touch buttons in the dark can not be found the first time.

9. The functionality of the touch buttons is questionable. The left button only exists to view open applications. For example, older tablets with Android 4.4 had a more functional menu.

10. Due to the high contrast, the colors are somewhat unnaturally saturated. There is white distortion on the screen from different viewing angles. White fades into a slight blue. How it looks can be seen in the photo:

There is no blue at right angles, the white color is more or less pure (brightness 50%):

When rejected, the white color changes to bluish:

Brightness 100%:

AnTuTu v6.0.4 test on Android 5.0.2. showed the following numbers:

Overall Rating: 65486

After updating to Android 6.0.1, AnTuTu Benchmark v6.2.1 shows:

Total score: 64745

Performance has not increased. For example, the Facebook feed is still a little slow.

The button with the fingerprint scanner did not work better. If the tablet is lying for several minutes, then after pressing the button it still wakes up with a delay (1-2 seconds). It looks like it needs time to get out of power saving mode.

The charging time has not changed for the better. In the off state from zero to 100%, the tablet is charged for 8 (eight!) Hours. When turned on, the tablet now charges in 6 hours and 45 minutes. The charging time only increases.

Subjectively, both the quality of the photo and the video from the camera have become a little better. At least the camera was not spoiled with this update. But another drawback came to light. If, while shooting a video, you try to focus on an object with a tap on the screen, then high-frequency noise from the focusing operation appears on the recording. You can hear them clearly if you record, for example, in a quiet room.

The battery charge indication has become more adequate. Now the tablet turns off at 1% charge. At low% charge, the tablet now works noticeably longer. For example, in reading and web surfing mode from 8% to shutdown, the tablet will work for 20 minutes. It used to disconnect after 5 minutes.

In May 2017, the tablet was updated to Android 7.0.

After updating AnTuTu Benchmark v6.2.7 shows:

Overall rating: 67886

Of the new comments that have appeared, it is worth noting the volume control key that has become too tight.

After the update, the icon design has changed. Half of the icons are now in the shape of a rounded square, and the application icon already fits into it. Half of the icons remained unchanged. That kind of confusion doesn't look good. In the display settings, the item "Icon frames" is not active.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 was built to compete with the PRO version of the iPad, as mentioned above. In some ways the model is better, in other ways worse. In terms of exchanges, for example, our hero beats a competitor, because the case thickness is 5.6 mm! This is incredibly small, you can even be afraid to break it at first, because the base of the case is matte soft plastic. Nevertheless, the Tab S2 9.7 has a very nice shape, light weight, which makes it very comfortable to hold even in one hand. It is not completely plastic, the side edges are made of metal. This makes the tablet expensive, after all, when you take it in hand, you realize that the device is very expensive.

Shell

Our gadget runs on Android 6. By the way, there are also modifications of this tablet, but related to the release of last year. They have modifications with the model name t7 **. They have the fifth generation OS installed, so be careful when buying, do not accidentally buy an old tablet. The shell has been familiar to us for a long time, this is TouchWiz, the tablet is split into two parts so that you can use two applications at the same time. It is very convenient to use this feature on a large screen, as if you were holding 2 five-inch smartphones at once. With the fingerprint scanner, you can lock some apps so that your friends don't have access to them. The shell allows you to create a guest mode to generally restrict some applications for other users. In general, everything is fine with data protection. You can additionally buy a keyboard cover for the tablet, they are made very well and are convenient to use.

Specifications

  • CPU

Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 Octa Core 1.8GHz

  • Video processor

Our version is based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 652, a decent mid-range processor. It has 8 cores, the frequency of the older 1.9 GHz. Video processor Adreno 510. The bundle is powerful enough, copes with all modern loads, this is not only our opinion, but the opinion of people on various forums of the Russian Internet.

Memory

This is where things are more interesting. In our model, 32 GB, 24-25 GB are available to us for use, part of the space is taken up by products from Microsoft, which are 100% useful. Additionally, you can buy a memory card up to 128 GB, this is the feature that the American competitor cannot boast of. Here you are free to choose the amount of memory you need, use several memory cards, there is a lot to roam around.

Communication

This is where things stand, really good. The tablet supports one nanoSim card, which gives you access to telephony and SMS messages. The device catches the network perfectly, there were no problems with GPS either, gadgets with such a processor always quickly and well captured satellites. There is no NFC chip and no FM radio, which, perhaps, can be attributed to disadvantages.
