Since the release of Mi4, it’s already been a year since the end of the year, and Xiaomi is still in no hurry to birth a new flagship. Instead, after just 5 months, the company announced the launch of its mid-segment device Mi4i. Regardless of the variety of external changes, the smartphone has been radically redesigned in the middle: a more productive processor has been installed, the camera has been upgraded, the new-fangled USB Type-C with fast charging and an IR port. I have been actively using a smartphone for more than two years and now I share my enemies in a form that is familiar to me.

My smartphone arrived from a Chinese online store with an unknown version of MIUI 7 pre-installed. Obviously, there is a combination of “left-handed software”, partial Russification and the absence of normal search on the system. The interface is based on the new Snapdragon 808 processor.

And, most often, I want to take a look at the device from the side of a casual companion, who first decided to move his smartphone to China, this time I walk along the road of a shopper who has slipped through. Let’s remember how not to take any notice of the fact that, getting ahead of ourselves, one of the shortest smartphones in terms of price/performance/size.

The simplest option to get stable firmware to your phone is to download it from the global MIUI website and install it using standard methods through the “Updater” program (after downloading the software via an additional cable to your smartphone). The Chinese software is ready, and the system adds all the necessary functions, but the system will be available only in English and Chinese. In principle, it would not matter if I repeatedly installed English as the main systemic language. For the rest of the rest, of course.

For Russified firmware, you will have to turn to third-party vendors, who have already experienced developments in the team's goals over the entire hour of MIUI's launch. One of them is miui.su with an informative site and good instructions for flashing. The remaining software version up to Mi4c can now be found immediately. If you install Russified firmware, you will not have to go through the standard system update, you will have to change the recovery, and then install the software from there.

And now, point by point:

1. We download firmware and custom recovery (Google Drive).
2. Turn on the retailer mode (Tap in the order of the MIUI version in the settings) and allow installation via USB using the following path: “Setup” -\u003e “Add-ons” -\u003e “For retailers”.
3. We drop archives with firmware into the “rom” folder before downloading, for example, or simply into the root section of the smartphone’s memory.
4. Let's unzip the archives from behind and download the recovery. I also happened to be addicted to Windows, so installing the necessary software on this system will be much easier.
5. The smartphone is disabled, and when the combination of the “down” + “harvest” key is turned on, the Fastboot mode is activated. Connects to PC.
6. My computer is based on Windows 10, installing all the necessary drivers. In the previously unpacked folder, run the file “recovery.bat” with administrator rights. Next, using the following instructions, we install recovery for the development version of MIUI (in my option, press “2” in the terminal window). Once the installation is complete, press any key on your computer to restart your smartphone in recovery.
7. It is important to create a backup copy of your streaming software right away. The "Wipe" section has "Factory reset" option.
8. In the “Install” section, you can select the firmware installed on your smartphone.
9. Once you have installed the software, you will need to select "Wipe Cache / Dalvik cache".

The wide width of the side frames (4 mm) is required for the transition from the fold to the back cover. All functional elements on the front panel are grouped as compactly as possible at the top of the smartphone. The loudspeaker is loud and does not make any noise. Xiaomi also adds light-colored filters to the LED indicators in its smartphones, so it won’t blind your eyes in the dark.

The Mi4c has a practical plastic body, and its design cannot be called “boring”. Don’t forget that a smartphone is, first and foremost, a tool for achieving your goals. This tool is hand-made. The prominent back cover, more than anything else, would ruin the inherent solidity of the smartphone, and even with such devices one is often wary of design play. I especially don’t feel the need for a rented battery, although I would like to hear that I won’t be of any use to the careless people.

There is a slight build-up on the back edge, so the multimedia speaker does not overlap when you place the smartphone on a flat surface. The dynamics itself can be adjusted manually in games, where the doors are located at the ends and are often closed by hand. The intensity is sufficient for a high level, at which the speaker does not turn into a “mush” at maximum values.

The plastic keys are located on the right side and are endowed with a distinct tactile feel. True, it’s easy to confuse them blindly, but over time you still remember the details. On the left side there is a tray for two micro-SIM cards.

Smartphones with USB Type-C are no longer a wonder for me, having ignited the smartphone market. The connector is manual, it looks like a more reliable micro-USB connector, and after the release of new Nexus smartphones, its expansion is gaining more and more strength. In the meantime, I recommend stocking up on adapters from micro-USB to Type-C and distributing them throughout your clothes, backpacks, and others, which are constantly used in speeches. Costing the stink is cheap (1-2 dollars).

There are no connections left between the audio output and the IR port. I'll tell you about the rest later.

The main advantage of Mi4c is the ability of most people to manually operate the smartphone with one hand. Great phones are, of course, more useful for gaming or for consuming multimedia content, but in my humble opinion, the smartphone is deprived of a device that I can use with one hand and on the go. Don't be afraid to miss it when you take a photo on the front camera, for example. І Xiaomi Mi4c so є.

MIUI 7

At the beginning of time, I was looking at the Xiaomi Redmi 2, which, unfortunately, was disappointed in many aspects, in terms of data, and in terms of speed code, but at the same time the system itself lost the reception of hostility. Having already looked at the current version of the PZ from Xiaomi, I’m still missing out on the key points for myself.

Most often, in my smartphones, the role of a regular launcher is taken by Google Start, with a manual search on the system and Google Now, which shows the latest news, weather, results of football matches and much more. With MIUI, it’s easy to get by without dancing with a tambourine, but, in principle, it’s not needed here. The system is equipped with an equally powerful global search (searches for applications, contacts and the Internet), which can be accessed by swiping from the bottom to the top of the desktop. Here you can open the notification panel by simply swiping down, without the hassle of reaching all the way to the curtain. To type text, use Google Keyboard. Make sure I have to install it manually.

The add-on icons in the multitasking window should not be visible, but by pressing the icon back you can turn them into miniatures of running add-ons. Thumbnails, similar to pictographs, can be saved in memory by pulling down.

Sorting of add-ons was carried out manually. Using the “pinch” gesture, we go to set up the desktop, then select “Sorting” and transfer to the time zone the additions that we want to move to another place. Turn to the desired work table and skip back to selecting programs.

A special feature of Mi4C is a function called “Edge Control” in the localized firmware. The edges of a smartphone are sensitive to the touch. You can install the “Back” action behind the second tap along the border. Or focusing on the first pressure and taking the picture differently in addition to the camera. This function did not take root with me, because in the camera and in the interface it is easier to use standard methods.

To use the built-in IR port, a premium “Mi Remote” application has been added. The maximum I could do was to stagnate him, in one good cafeteria, the vlasniks of which I want to see the music channel for some pop music. It’s easy and at the same time fun to keep an eye on the waiters as they try to renew the flow of the thirsty music, and then they calm down.

MIUI is packed with a variety of features to make using a smartphone easier and is incredibly satisfying. For example, to turn on the light, you need to activate the smartphone display and press the Home touch key for a few seconds; the camera can also be launched by swiping left from the lock screen without entering a password. There is a silent release function when the “Down” button is pressed to activate the camera, and all pressures will result in taking pictures. Menu the system to your liking, on par with Cyanogen OS and Flyme. In the rest, a robot with an interface is more appropriate (interaction of a touch-physical key with the system), and in Cyanogen the interface itself of bare Android is in control.

Gaming and synthetic productivity, display

My main test of productivity in a particular game of WoT: Blitz is a smartphone that can be passed with great difficulty, looking at the test of one of the top processors of 2015. At high settings, the game is impossible, the frame drop is significant and reaches 12-14 fps in active scenes. The middle settings are already more comfortable for graphics: stable 40-45 frames with adjustments up to 25. Instead of playing better on poor graphics, rather than stable 50-60 frames per second. At low settings, fps does not drop below 30-35 units.

Such indicators often speak about the poor optimization of this platform, and even the graphics performance of the Snapdragon 808 in many tests outperforms it on the Intel Atom Z3580. Having installed the add-on in the Play Market NFS: Most Wanted, there were no problems with it. It's hard to get too hot and it makes you hang even more. The same thing happened with the new NFS: No Limits after 30-40 hours of gaming activity.

At high temperatures, the smartphone body heats up to 45 degrees. Unfortunately, Mi4c has a low throttling activation threshold, and as soon as the smartphone starts up, its productivity immediately drops. On the right, after all, in the firmware, it is only deprived of the possibility of correcting this shortcoming of Xiaomi.

My smartphone has 2 gigabytes of RAM. Today, the minimum for comfortable work is Android version 5.0 and higher. After the system is turned on, no more than 800 megabytes are lost for the user of add-ons, which will disappear again when you launch resource-intensive add-ons. There is no way, like in the ASUS ZenFone 2 with 4 GB RAM, to save a dozen tabs in the browser without having to re-access them. Having overpaid once again for a lot of RAM (in the 3 GB version of the system ~ 1.9 is available), you can save on traffic, which is necessary for re-engaging Internet pages.

Proceed in the same way with the memory assigned to the koristuvach. 16 GB (actually 12.14) is, in principle, enough, otherwise the smartphone has to be moderated hour after hour for unauthorized additions, and photographs are sent to the “gloom”. I respect that it’s better to overpay and take the older modification Mi4c with 3/32 GB. Especially considering that you are not taking the device for a couple of months.

The displays in today's smartphones click less and less every day and are powered less. It’s best to install IPS matrices in budget devices with good results, so I won’t include this characteristic in the next chapter. The Mi4c has a 5-inch screen with separate FullHD resolution. I'll look around, naturally, close to the maximum.

The more important parameters today are image contrast and brightness control range. Often, videographers (especially Chinese) lack these parameters, using their smartphones, but at the very least, it is unacceptable to grind in the dark, or it is simply impossible in the bright sun. Xiaomi has no problems with this; the brightness control range from 1.5 to 378 cd/m2 (information from itc.ua) covers all my possibilities. A smartphone doesn’t “be” a lie early in the eyes if it’s still dark outside and can’t be read in the sun. Users can turn on the “Reading” mode, which reduces the temperature of the display color to “warm”. There you can also set the intensity of this parameter.

The oleophobic coating is not ideal, but it makes it easy to remove fingerprints from the display on most handy fabrics. And to protect the screen during heavy wear, I recommend that you still get a sponge or a scratch, since after several years I have discovered micro-fragments, no matter what, in everyday use.

Autonomy and drone-free measures

This compact Xiaomi smartphone contains a battery with a capacity of 3080 mAh. For an hour of playing WoT: Blitz or other games, the smartphone shows 2.5-3 years of work on the screen, while during active use without games you can Rahovuvati for 4 years. There were 2 SIM cards, one of which functioned continuously in 3G ranges. All drone-free modules are activated, including Bluetooth (interaction with Pebble). GPS will automatically start in the add-ons that you require.

The Mi4c kit comes with a battery pack for fast charging. Quick Charge 2.0 technology has been partially implemented. The smartphone gains 1% capacity per charge, which means 100 hours before full charge.

Xiaomi Mi 4i differs from the older model Mi 4 with a plastic rather than metal body and a weaker processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 versus Snapdragon 801). Then there are two slots for SIM cards and a larger thin body combined with a larger (!) battery. Moreover, the first Xiaomi smartphone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop. This already leads to anger at new respect.

So, as a final look at the Xiaomi smartphone on our portal, let’s say a few words about the company. It was founded quite recently, in 2010, and its first product is a software: MIUI interface for Android. Until the end of 2014, the company ranked third in smartphone sales after Samsung and Apple. Price dumping, inheritance from Apple (and practical in all respects - from the solution in the MIUI interface to the corporate style of the head of the company Lei Jun) and the effectiveness of other devices - and the whole world is talking about the company from Shenzhen. And whoever prophesies that in the near future, she herself will be the leading force in the smartphone market, and Apple and Samsung will be driving the saws. At least the pace of growth is pushing forward.

Xiaomi's serious expansion beyond the borders of China has begun in the past due to the acquisition of Google's colossal satellite, Hugo Barry, but it is quite slow to start. Every time, in Russia there are official sales of Xiaomi gadgets (and in the company’s assortment there is something to marvel at besides smartphones - even to action cameras and sneakers!), Except for tablets, it hasn’t started yet. So we are talking about a “gray” smartphone, without official support from the manufacturer - as is often the case with the “Chinese”.

Regardless of all the gossip about the “Chinese Apple,” Xiaomi smartphones themselves are not very similar to the iPhone, and the Mi 4i is not to blame. Modest and neat body lined with matte plastic. If you want to get dirty or get your smartphone dirty, you need to try.

And these are just the main advantages! Also, don’t forget about the clear sound in the headphones, high-speed GPS and high-speed communication. Unfortunately, it was revealed that it is possible to expand the memory, but if it is reasonable to maximize the space without clogging up the whole place with games, then 16 GB is enough. Most importantly, there is the Mi Cloud service, which allows you to synchronize photos without storing them all on your phone. That otg without changing anyone...

The equipment is minimal: smartphone, charger and USB cable. So in the box you can find a warranty card, a manual and a special key for opening the tray with these cards.

Features of the operating system

The smartphone operates under the MIUI v5 operating system based on Android 4.4. Splendid hope that Xiaomi Mi4 would be released immediately on MIUI v6, but that didn’t happen.

You can get to know yourself right now. The Xiaomi Mi4 firmware has a completely new addition, XMRemoteController - a universal remote control for consumer electronics. Unfortunately, the program interface is not translated into English, and setting up the program for an LG TV had to be done using the “scientific tic” method. After a few days of use, I can install the device without noticing any problems. I’m sorry about those who, at the time of writing, had not tried MIUI v6, because of the device’s remarkably weak autonomy. Xiaomi's power supply is limited to devices that do not support them, but, for example, it does not allow panoramic shots. Ale at the same hour, carrying out a great wedding ceremony, for the first time in a long hour, the Chinese smartphone began to tell me “wow!” The first thing that struck me was the simplicity of the assembly: all the parts are perfectly matched one to one, there are no creaks when pressed together, and it is not at all possible to twist the device. In addition, there is a stainless steel frame around the perimeter of the device - according to the smell, it is not on par with its aluminum counterparts, and there is a strong association with the iPhone 4 / 4S. But after turning on the display, I forgot about the case! The screen is really good, although not too large, but definitely one of the best FullHD displays on the market. The fluidity and smoothness of the interface are almost ideal, although everything was fine in Xiaomi Mi3.

As of today, Xiaomi Mi4 has not yet appeared on the Russian market, but is already available in one online store at a price of 18,200 rubles for the 16GB version. Obviously, this price is speculative and in 3-5 won will be adjusted to 14-15 thousand rubles. Any buyer who wants to buy a device with LTE will wait until the fall, and then start thinking about buying a Xiaomi Mi4 or the same one. The rest benefits the Mi4 from its autonomy and larger display diagonal, but also from the ease of use of the controller, the firmness of the body and the same MIUI firmware. Meizu MX4 may come out again in the spring, but it’s still a dark horse and it’s too early to talk about this device. Afterwards, when the price of Xiaomi Mi4 drops to 12,000 rubles for the 16GB version, it will perhaps become the most attractive device in its category.
