The railway station of Milano Centrale is one of the most important railway stations in Italy and Europe, and it also has connections to Rome, Naples and Venice, and to Paris, Nice, Zurich, and Geneva. Today the station serves over 300 thousand passengers, and around 600 trains derail from 24 platforms today.

The first station near Milan was built back in 1864, in the city where the famous Republic Square is being developed, but later, due to the rapid development of the transport system, the old station ceased to cope with its amenities.

There is a need to create a new station that can handle the passenger flow that has happened so many times. A competition for the best project was announced Milan Central Station, who became the champion of the architect Ulis Staccini, who took the example of waking up the railway station near Washington.

From Milan's main station, it was born near Travna in 1931.

Due to the economic crisis that befell Italy after the First World War, life continued to be intense. In addition, with the arrival of Mussolina, the initial project was significantly changed - the new ruler wanted Milan's main station to look more monumental.

The main innovation was the majestic steel dome that curves over the platform, the project behind Alberto Fava. Budivlya Milano Centrale, which is a monstrous reflection of the architecture of the first half of the twentieth century, is painted in the Art Deco style with elements of Art Nouveau: the size of the gray stone is decorated with clever bas-reliefs, as well as sculptures - both great guys and small ones.

The opening of the main railway station in Milan took place in 1931, so the current appearance did not change, but the infrastructure developed.

Today there is everything for the comfort and convenience of passengers: instant cash registers, ticket terminals, information kiosks, cameras, a medical center, cafes, restaurants, shops.

Milan Central Station. There are a large number of people traveling by train and directly. Purchasing a ticket through a machine, a sensible interface, and the arrangement of train disruptions will not come to the minds of the Italians any time soon. Check with the staff about the direct train departure times. The price of the ticket is reasonable; you can purchase a transfer using one ticket. Golovne - when boarding the train, do not forget to validate your ticket in the machine, otherwise the fine at the control is 100 eu

The station does not operate from 1.00 to 4.00. It’s not just me who is closed, but the territory in front of her. They wag their ears, howl with their little ones in their arms. If you are planning to check the rank train, beware, on the street near the station you will see African Americans and homeless people.

Milan is a great industrial center, famous for its wealth of cultural and historical monuments, its La Scala theater is known throughout the world, the place is respected as the center of European fashion, which is why thousands of tourists come here soon.

Milan is connected to most of Italy and the great European centers along the way. Up to 400 thousand passengers a day arrive at the Central Station, one of the largest in Europe. And from this we begin to become familiar with the architectural features of Milan, since the station itself is a monument of architecture.

History

In 1864, the first railway station was opened in Milan. The flow of passengers gradually increased, 6 platforms and a small station could no longer cope with such a large number of people who arrived and saw, and at the beginning of the 20th century, food began to flow about the life of the new station.

The architect Ulysses Stacchini won in the popular competition, although his idea was not unique: the architect took the project for a train station near Washington as a basis. Life had been troubling for a long time: the financial system of Italy suffered during the First World War, there were no pennies left. And Mussolini, who came to power, ordered significant changes to be made to the top seats: he wanted it to be not just great, but monumental, and would again represent the greatness of the era and the militaristic ideology of that time .

Vidkrity grew up in the grass of 1931. Its external appearance has not changed since then, but the infrastructure is steadily developing. Wanting to try to radically change the outer appearance, we were timid. The project was proposed, which, having transferred the additional information, I will wake up in the background with the arrival of a forty-over-the-top gloomy man. The project was not implemented.

The reconstruction, carried out at the beginning of the 21st century, did not change the current appearance of its interior; The decorative elements of the façade were restored and the infrastructure was refurbished.

Architectural features

Thanks to Mussolina, the project was immediately changed: 24 platforms were covered with a gigantic dome, built in steel and designed by Alberto Fava. The building itself in the Art Deco style began to look grandiose: gray stone, bas-reliefs, numerous sculptures on the facade, the size of which is impressive: its width is 200 meters and its height is 72 meters.

The greatest embellishment of the façade is the large male figures of pegasuses, around which small sculptural compositions are arranged, complemented by figures of Roman senators in togas, medallions, and pilasters.

The central hall is filled with lacy openwork, which is why it is even brighter. The tall arches, which came from Ancient Rome, create a sense of majestic space. The walls are decorated with majolica panels.

The station has removed the main elements of modernity with elements of industrial style. Fully aware of its customs and imperial style, characteristic of the era of Mussolina. The result is a building that does not have a single architectural style, but has a unique unique look.

Today, approximately 600 trains leave the platform, including electric trains. No less quantity arrives here. And every passenger has the opportunity to look around and take a photo of such a unique reality as the Central Railway Station near Milan.

Services

The station has everything for a comfortable transfer of passengers. Great medical center, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to give first aid medical assistance, and to consult on the cause of chronic illness that has developed. You can get the necessary medications from the Farmacia pharmacy on a different version.

You can rent a car right here. There are a number of offices here that deal with car rentals. And the social assistance office, where a passenger who gets into trouble can get angry. The police must keep order if they are afraid of moving electric vehicles, since both platforms occupy a large area.

Numerical storage chambers: both automatic and operator-operated for large hand luggage. A table of icons, obligatory at any train station, post office, where tourists often go to buy stamps from the images of the most important monuments of Milan.

And emergency rooms for passengers with children. Here women can visit a beauty salon.

There is a range of food items from fast food to expensive restaurants with flavors of national Italian cuisine. There are a lot of small cafes, small bars that have grown up in all parts. Along the perimeter of the washing room there are pizza and coffee shops, kiosks where you can buy the latest newspapers.

For the safety of passengers, at the beginning of the last 50 years they tried to install a whole system of escalators, but the test was not entirely successful, and most often passengers have to go up the old steep exits, which is a common inconvenience.

There is an information kiosk in the center of the cleaning room. Repair a branch of the National Bank and ATMs. Plastic cards from international systems are accepted directly. There are numerous shops on the territory of the station. Here you can buy a wide variety of souvenirs and other famous Italian brands.

Automatic machines for selling tickets are installed both in the middle and directly on the platforms.

There is a Holocaust Museum here, which preserves the memory of the most tragic events in the history of not just the station, but the entire region. From platform No. 21, from 1941 to 1944, trains ran to Auschwitz and Dachau, which became the last route for hundreds of Italian Jews who were transported from the San Vittore connection.
