The GPU-Z utility incorrectly determined the characteristics of the installed graphics core, so for this purpose we quickly turned to another popular diagnostic program - AIDA64.

The AMD Athlon 5150 is equipped with a video core from the AMD Radeon R3 Graphics series under the code name AMD Radeon HD 8400, Based on the advanced AMD GCN microarchitecture. It includes 128 stream processors, 4 rasterization modules and 8 texture units, and the clock frequency is 600 MHz. To save energy when there is a lot of demand on the iGPU, its frequency is automatically reduced to 266 MHz.

By the way, the flagship model of the AMD Kabini family has exactly the same graphics core. Therefore, we can assume that in games the APUs (AMD Athlon 5150 and AMD Athlon 5350) will show approximately the same result. However, for a more accurate picture, let's take a look at the test results.

New AMD Kaveri APU desktops have begun to appear in motherboard support lists

Currently, there are only two representatives of the AMD Kaveri desktop APU line available on the market: AMD A10-7850K and AMD A10-7700K. It is unknown why AMD delayed the release of other models, they have already begun to appear in the support lists of various motherboards, which indicates a quick debut.

Ultra-budget processors are always gaining a stable price from buyers due to their unmatched advantages. They allow you to easily pick up an inexpensive desktop or first-time computer for your child, which will have sufficient productivity to run standard, everyday applications.

Since 2004, the AMD Sempron family has been replenished with different processors, but all of them have been limited to the lowest price range. With the release of the new energy-efficient AMD AM1 platform, AMD changed its design and moved from classic CPUs to hybrid devices with an integrated graphics core - APU.

The new AMD Sempron APUs are based on the AMD Jaguar microarchitecture. Similar to the SoC (System-on-Chip) design, it combines computing and graphics cores, a RAM controller, and a chipset. As was already mentioned earlier, they combine on one chip a central processor core, a graphics adapter based on the AMD GCN microarchitecture and a single-channel DDR3-1600 RAM controller supported by storage capacity up to 16 GB.

Additionally, they implement support for a number of controllers, which in traditional systems are included in the storage of chipset microcircuits. Zokrema, it's all about:

The integrated graphics adapter integrates with the well-known AMD GCN microarchitecture, which is also present in. Before us, not only a representative of the AMD Kabini family was tested, but also the entire system (processor + motherboard + RAM). This will give us the opportunity to fully evaluate the capabilities of the entire AMD AM1 platform, and also allow us to understand which tasks are best suited.

It seems that the motherboard is the basis of any computer. Our VIP has a model ASRock AM1B-ITX, Wikonan in Mini-ITX format. This form factor will be the main one for the AMD AM1 platform, which also wants to introduce solutions in the microATX format to the market. At least all the great motherboard manufacturers, including ASRock, have already announced at least one such model.

Let's turn to our ASRock AM1B-ITX board. As a matter of fact, its layout is completely standard for such compact solutions: the processor socket is located in the middle; on the left edge of the textolite there are expanded interfaces, and on the opposite side there are slots for RAM; The lower part is provided for a PCI Express x16 connector. It’s worth remembering that there are only 4 lanes of the PCIe 2.0 standard. However, such a quantity in this case will be entirely sufficient, since the AMD AM1 platform is primarily positioned as the basis for office computers, nettops or HTPCs, and not for gaming configurations. Therefore, most importantly, the PCI Express slot will be used as a card that expands the multimedia capabilities of the system, for example, an external audio card or a TV tuner.

Exchange rates are applied to the RAM: its capacity can reach 16 GB, and its speed is 1600 MHz. In addition, there is no support for the dual-channel mode. However, for the tasks mentioned above, these interchanges are not that critical, and in practice they do not play a special role.

Some processors from the AMD Kabini family have taken over the non-personal functions of third-party controllers, and the number of additional chips on the motherboard has completely decreased. The first thing that comes to mind is the importance of the chipset. Now the support for SATA 6 Gb/s ports comes directly from the processor, although only in the amount of two. The ASRock company noted that this might be insufficient and took advantage of the additional controller ASMedia ASM1061, which supports two more SATA 6 Gb/s ports. The TDP of AMD Kabini processors is stated to be around 25 W, which means that the power supply subsystem must handle low performance. Completely remove the 2-phase VRM module, which we can install on the ASRock AM1B-ITX board. Such a simple configuration of the processor allows you to quickly spend money on manufacturing the motherboard and, as a result, change the end performance of the entire computer.

The system is connected via a 24-pin ATX connector. Although, looking at the low energy consumption of AMD Kabini processors, it is entirely possible that we can use models of motherboards equipped with an external adapter (DC 19V).

The RAM subsystem, selected for testing configuration, consists of one module AMD AE34G1609U1S, Which is related to the branded AMD Radeon Memory series. A small increase is expected only in highly specialized programs, which are unlikely to run on configurations built on the AMD AM1 platform.

Having tested the system in the warehouse at the test laboratory, we will omit the description of the box and take a quick look at the standard cooling system.

It differs from the primary colors that are equipped with processors of the AMD Trinity / Richland / Kaveri / Zambezi / Vishera families, especially due to its compact dimensions. The depth and width of this refrigeration system is 55 mm (without fixing the fasteners), and the height is just 40 mm. Please adjust the dimensions immediately after installing the fan.

It is significant that for the first time in a long time, AMD has changed the fastening system: instead of the original bolts, the cooler is secured using two spring plastic clips.   • SmartBuy Ignition Plus - for 16.5 thousand rubles - a representative of a rare hardware platform that combines Phison S11 and MLC 3D V-NAND Micron. Although most of these storage devices have been on sale for a long time, the 960 GB modification has appeared just now;
  • Micron MTFDDAV1T0TBN - worth 16.8 thousand rubles - under this tooth-crushing name there is a controller Marvell 88SS1074 and TLC 3D 32L V-NAND Micron, the essence is Micron M1100 (and also Crucial MX300). We tested this hardware configuration in Sichni;
  • WD Blue PC SSD - 17.1 thousand rubles - Marvell 88SS1074 and 15 nm planar TLC NAND SanDisk. This configuration was made a little more than fate. The term is inaccurate, but no fundamental changes have been made during this hour, and it can be taken into account that these decisions of special nutrition are not to be blamed;

  • AMD Radeon R3 - 18 thousand rubles - this amount has not yet been collected;
  • Kingston SSDNow UV400 - 18.5 thousand rubles - similar;
  • Toshiba HDTS896EZSTA - for 19 thousand rubles - a combination of Phison S10 and 15 nm planar TLC NAND Toshiba, known from the Toshiba TR150 test of the same age, no, they are already selling surplus, the hoarder will have to go through the sale soon Some knowledge about production;
  • Corsair Force LE - priced at 19.5 thousand rubles - essentially the same as Phison S10 and 15 nm TLC NAND Toshiba.

At the same time, unknown to us in this category and with price tags that can still be called “budget” (up to 20 non-compliant income minimums for citizens), there are only three accumulators: SmartBuy Ignition Plus, AMD Radeon R3 i Kingston SSDNow UV400. With the first - unfortunately, nutrition is still in limbo (administrative nature), the other will be collected for this material, and with the third we will try to improve nutrition.

Let me be clear: I have never seen any solutions in the M.2 form factor. On the right is that such an accumulator can easily be “converted” into 2.5 "-similar shaft adapter housings on AliExpress / eBay for a price of 200-250 rubles with delivery.

And the difference between M.2 and “cob” 2.5 "from the hardware point of view is noticeably small.
